Chapter 5: Soul Knowledge
Sans
The question made everyone in the room freeze. I feel magic building up in my eye but I push it down quickly. Dus covers her mouth and looks around at everyone, looking scared and ashamed.
"k-kid... how do you know about that?"
I try to keep my voice calm but a hint of anger came out, making her jump. I really don't know what to say about that, I've had enough with the timelines.
"My Dad was the one who studied about timelines, alternate universes and the power to reset. I had uh... read his study journal."
"... can you reset?"
I had to ask. Neither Frisk nor Chara can reset since this timeline started but if Duska can... I don't think that I could handle it.
"I don't think so. I think... only humans with a red soul with a mass amount of Determination even have a chance to have the power to reset. So not me as my soul is a mix of blue and green."
"THE COLOR OF A SOUL HAS A MEANING!?! DOES THAT COUNT FOR MONSTER SOULS TOO?"
Well... if she doesn't know how to reset I guess that I have little to worry about for the moment. I smile and collapse onto the couch, i'm exhausted from all of that.
"Monster souls count. Can I see yours Paps?"
He laughs happily as his soul peeks out from his chest and is shown to the room, he has a bright yet dimly colored orange soul. It's actually the purest orange soul of any monster that i've seen, everyone in this room has a purely colored soul actually...
"It's so bright! Orange means kindness so it describes you very well!"
"WOWIE! WHAT OTHER COLORS ARE THERE?"
Frisk quickly hands her a handful of crayons and a piece of paper which Duska begins working on immediatley. I watch her from the corner of my eye as she draws and colors heart shapes onto the paper. After a minute she picks up the paper with a pin from the kitchen table and pins it to the wall.
"So the seven main colors are Red, Orange, Green, Blue, Cyan, Yellow and Purple. Red is Determination."
"Little obvious there. Both Frisk and I have that."
I give Chara a look but she doesn't see it, that kid is always going to bother me.
"Orange is Kindness."
"NYEH HEH HEH! THE GREAT PAPYRUS HAS THE KINDEST OF SOULS!"
I swear I hear Duska whisper something about Paps being 'adorable' and a heat rushes into my cheekbones but it leaves just as quick.
"Green is Courage. Does anyone have green?"
Undyne jumps towards Duska and points her thumb at herself, her large smile is pinned to her face and the kid just laughs.
"Well, Dad got that one right too. You are couragous Undyne."
"Heck yeah I am! I risked my life once when that yellow monster nearly fell off a cliff in Waterfall! Even he said that I'm couragous!"
Dus laughs again and calms Undyne down so that she can continue. This kid really is smart, knowing what each color soul means.
"Wh-What's yellow?"
"Yellow is Perseverance. Fixed in doing something hard or has been delayed success. Does that sound right Alphys?"
"U-Um... I don't know..."
Undyne picks Alphys up into a hug and smiles at Duska.
"Yeah she is! She does that all the time when she's doing sciency stuff!"
Alphys blushes while a look of realisation crosses Duska's face, the two don't hide each others feelings anymore which has become a little awkward at times. Toriel laughs off to the side at something that Frisk signs to her.
"Frisk wants to know what Cyan is. That's my souls color."
"Cyan is Integrity. The quality of being honest and morally strong."
"That's Mom alright..."
Toriel gets a little shy at Chara's statement while Dus laughs a bit. It's good to hear her laugh so much after what happened last night, she seemed so scared.
"What about me my dear? Mine is Purple."
Asgore puts down his cup of tea as he stands up straight, his kingly demeanor has never truly left that fluffy king.
"Purple is Patience. Are you a patient person Asgore?"
"I can be at times. Whenever I wait for water to boil I like to just sit and relax."
They chat more about souls for a few minutes but I blank out, too busy thinking about that stupid kid that's smiling cheerfully in the corner. She looks so... innocent. But i've become too accustomed to the kids demonic thoughts that she used to have. That she may still have.
"Sans!"
I jump as Duska lightly shakes my arm, jolting me out of my thoughts.
"you scared me kid... right out of my bones."
The two of use chuckle with Toriel joining in and Papyrus screaming into his gloves. We quickly gain our composure and wipe away our joy filled tears.
"So... what colors your soul Sans?"
I smile and hold out my hand, making my soul come from my chest and sit in my palm. It's blue radiates lightly but it is the deepest blue that i've seen in the Underground. Dus laughs softly as she lightly pokes it, making me laugh a little as it tickles me. My eyes widen as both surprise and recognition comes to her.
"So... blue? Your justice?"
"apparently so..."
"Will you judge me if I do what I'm about to do?"
"harshly."
She smiles just before jumping onto me and lightly tickling my ribcage, making me laugh like crazy.
"Duska's got ya pinned Sans!"
"n-not... f-f... for l-long!"
I let magic pour into my eye and left hand, raising it upwards towards the ceiling as I concentrate on the merciless tickler on me. She slowly floats upwards, pouting once she gets out of reach.
"Sans! Cheating!"
"pfft... nah. cheating? me?"
After I put her down she begins conversation with everyone, talking about pies with Tori, tea with Asgore, complicated science with Alphys and playing random games with the two humans. Undyne and Paps join in with some random conversation while I just watch everyone talk with each other. The kid's already gotten everyone's trust, even Chara has warmed up to her and Flowey doesn't insult her too much. I smile as I feel my eye sockets droop slowly as the chatter of the room slowly dissolves into a quiet murmer. The room fades to black as sleep absorbs me, along with the knowledge that the kid's gonna fit in fine down here.
