Sans

Being woken up and dragged to Tori's... not a good way to start the day. With Papyrus already there i'm being dragged along by Alphys who happened to be at the Snowdin shop once she got a call. We haven't talked much and we're already in sight of the Castle doors, Alphys isn't really the talking type anyway.

"SANS! ALPHYS! YOUR HERE!"

"H-Hello Papyrus."

"hey bro."

He drags us inside where everyone else was sitting in the lounge room in front of a nervous looking Duska. Once she sees me her nervousness seems to multiply as her eyes widen and her hands begin tangling between themselves.

"you alright over there kid?"

"SHE HASN'T TALKED AND LADY ASGORE SAID THAT SHE WON'T UNTIL EVERYONE'S HERE."

"Well, everyone's here! Now talk punk!"

Dus just stared down at her hands as the rest of us sit around the loungeroom. Once she finally does look up her eyes skitter away from my own, purposly avoiding me.

"Well you all know about how Dad and I got to the Surface."

"Yeah. Your Mother p-passed away and your Father took her soul and u-used it to pass the Barrier."

"Yeah, but our life wasn't as happy as Mom wanted it to be..."

Is she... going to tell us about what happened to her Dad? And why she fell down here? Why the hell am I asking myself this if she's just about to answer it...

"When I turned eight Dad had been working all day in his lab in the basement and continued doing so around my bed time. I heard a noise while I was falling asleep and thinking it was Dad going to bed I got up to say goodnight. I walked out of my room but I didn't see anyone walk into his bedroom. Then... "

She sighs and rubs her face with both of her hands vigorously before being able to talk again.

"Instead of my Dad being there, it was someone else with a cloth covered with chloroform."

"Ch-Chloroform!?! You mean... someone knocked y-you out!?!"

She nods and I see several others look at her worringly, all I feel is anger. She was an eight year old girl and they just knocked her out!?!

"When I woke up I wasn't at home. The room had four walls and a floor of concrete while the ceiling was of molding wood. It had a single window looking out onto tall grass. That room and the grass were the only walls and part of the outside world I saw for the next ten years of my life."

She... was kidnapped... taken from her Dad and forced to live between concrete walls!?! That... Dus didn't deserve that...

"Wait... so your saying that you were kidnapped and put in a concrete room where you stayed for ten years? Why didn't just bring out the blaster! It would've easily broke through a concrete wall!!"

"I didn't know how to do any magic back then, I didn't even know that I could make my arms skeletal or that I could make bandages come out of my skin. I really couldn't do anything... until around two years ago. Five months before I fell down here."

The look on her face says it all, the kidnapping was not the worst thing that she has to say.

"The man who kidnapped me was called Venric, he abused me mentally and physically, made me carve things out of wood and stone... he said I was better than a normal human because I didn't need as much food and sleep as one, he was wrong but he never believed my word. One night he walked through the metallic door drunk and began insulting my Dad and monsters in general, he's done it before but he pushed it too far once he brought up my Mom. I... snapped. My mind just decided that it had enough."

She looked down at her hand as her arms were drenched in aqua fire and her eye gets wrapped with the usual white bandages. The hand she was staring at goes up to the covered eye as she sighs.

"My eye wasn't covered the first time I did this, it was open and staring directly at Venric. It's actually just a blank eye socket surrounded by a few centimetres of bone before there's skin. I think there might be a glim in it like Sans' but I never bothered to check."

"We could see for ya punk! Just unwrap it!"

"No Undyne. This eye won't feel fresh air ever again."

Her voice had anger and sadness in it as she said those words, it surprised the whole room as she hardly ever gets mad at anything.

"Venric stared into it but he didn't move, he didn't talk, he didn't even change his expression. I was angry and scared so I said the one thing on my mind. 'Go die'."

Papyrus looks to be holding back the urge to run up and hug her, from the looks of it so is everyone else. I could see Frisk, Chara and Flowey standing by the hallway and the kids even looked distressed with Flowey staring down at the floor. I just feel like lying down on the floor and just never get up but the feeling of dread worsens once Dus starts tearing up.

"When I said that he immediatly turned and left the room with the door open, a mistake he didn't make for ten years. I quietly follow behind him but stop in the doorway once he picks something up from the top of his dresser. Before I knew it he stuck it to the side o-of his head a-and... a-a-and..."

That was the moment where I took a shortcut from where I was standing to by her side, wrapping her up into a tight hug. Her hands curl around the edges of my jacket as her head digs into my collarbone and cries into it. I ignore the rest of the room as I whisper 'calm down' and 'it's okay' to her and rub her back. It takes a while for her to calm down and by then the side of my jacket has been drenched in tears.

"Are you alright now my child?"

"Y-Yeah... sorry about that. I've just never told anyone before."

"it's fine dus. i'm glad you told us."

Her expression says that there's even more for her to say and from the way she's trying to avoid my eyes, i'm not going to like it.

"So... as soon as I saw 'that' I ran for the nearest town. Which is when I remembered Dad's stories about Mt Ebott and the Underground. I... stole some clothing and food then ran all the way here. It took me five months to get here and by then I had learnt all the magic I know now. But... I... I never found out what happened to my Dad..."

I take several steps back as my mind clicked the pieces together, she misses her Dad, avoiding my eyes... She's going to the Surface and she knows that i'm going to say no.

"Sans-"

"no. not in a million years kid."

"WHAT ARE YOU TWO TALKING ABOUT?"

I don't answer but instead I just stare at Duska, hoping that she takes it as a threat and gets so scared that she never thinks about going to the Surface again.

"Sans... i'm going to the Surface."

The stare didn't work and the numerous protests from others don't deter her either. For an hour everyone tries to find reasons to keep Duska from going but no one can think of anything, but I have. I've just been waiting for everyone else to finish.

"So, is everyone done? Everyone satisfied?"

"nope. there's one reason for why your not going up there."

She looked almost tired at this point, answering everyone's concerns for an hour can do that to you.

"And why is that Sans?"

I sigh and look over at the kids who are comfortably sitting on Tori's chair.

"hey... i'm not the only one getting some deja vu right now am i?"

Everyone seemed to get what I was saying instantly, everyone but Duska. Frisk nervously looks down into his lap as Chara keeps looking at me.

"No. I remember this conversation but I thought it was just me. Someone reset."

After her words I look back at Duska who looks the most confused out of all of us. As she locks her gaze with mine I see it click together in her head.

"But... I don't... I don't have enough Determination to be able to reset."

"not now, but you must of after you... died..."

I may have gone a little overboard there... but I don't want it happening again. I sigh and focus back onto Duska who seems to be tearing up slowly.

"sorry kid... i just... don't want you dying again..."

"SANS!! WHY DIDN'T YOU TELL US THAT THERE WAS A RESET?"

"because i didn't know that dus would come in the next timeline, and when she did come i didn't want to scare her off."

"Sans..."

She walks over to me and before I can react i'm being hugged by her. I suddenly feel something wet slide down my skull and realize that I must have been crying as I talked. I quickly wipe them away with my sleeve just as Duska moves back and grabs hold of my shoulders.

"Have I ever promised you anything Sans?"

"huh? uh... no. you never have."

"Well... I promise to come back alive and without Reseting. I hate promises just as much as you do but i'm going to keep this one for you Sans."

Looking into her eyes I see something I've seen thousands of times before, Determination. She really wants to find out what happened to her and I don't blame her, i'm just scared for her. But that look in her eyes tell me that she won't give up until she's up there. I sigh and rest my head against hers, she flinches at my suddenness but she doesn't move away.

"don't you dare die on me kid. no more resets..."

I feel more tears rush out of my eye sockets and I hear them splat onto the floor. Someones sleeve cleans my face and lifts my head up for me to see Dus with the largest smile on her face. She pulls me into another hug and I dig my head into her shoulder. 

"I won't Sans. I promise."
