Chapter 6

 "Hello Mrs. James are you always this late on Mondays? Or did you think that now you can come whenever you want?''

I felt his words crush on me like a thousand ice cubes. My boss was the guy I had slept after the party. He was the one. Now how was I going to explain anything? I had played so many scenarios last night in my mind but in none of them was he the guy I had slept with. I was utterly shocked.

''Mrs.  James? Are you still here with me?''

''I am sorry sir I was a little surprised. I am not usually late this is the first time actually due to a flat tire''

''A flat tire? And you were only half an hour late? Way to go Mrs. James''

''I don't appreciate your sarcasm sir''

''You should have had a better excuse then. The road assistance is not that quick''

''I know that's why I changed it by myself''

''By yourself?''

''Yes and as for your remark about me being usually late, don't forget that for the two months you were away, we had a phone conference everyday half hour before the time I should be coming to work.''

''You are right about that and thank you for coming half an hour early. I will make sure you are compensated for that. I was just wondering why you felt you could come late today.''

''I thought I just told you why. I had a flat tire. If you don't believe me you can come with me in the parking lot and check the spear for you self.''

''That won't be necessary Mrs. James. I prefer spending our time discussing Friday’s deal you made. I would also like to bring you up to date on our dealings in Europe. It is possible that in the next trip I might need you to come with me and I want you to be fully informed.''

''You don't have to pay me extra for that, I wanted to do it.''

''Thanks you but I like to be fair to my employees. Now please give me your car keys.''

''Why would you want my car keys?”

“So we can get your tire fixed and you won’t be late again tomorrow”

“I will fix my own tire in my own personal time and I won’t be late tomorrow.”

“Eeeh boss?”, July entered the office

“What?”

“Is something wrong? They called from the third floor, they can hear you yelling from there…”

“Nothing is the matter July. We were discussing something work related but we have it covered now. Mrs. James will give you her car keys. Give them to Dean and ask him to have the tire fixed. “

“It is ok July I will handle it after work.”

“Nonsense Dean handles things like that for all us girls in the company. He doesn’t trust us to do it by ourselves, he thinks we will manage to have the car explode or something. He gets so angry if don’t consult him in everything that has to do with our cars it’s not even funny.”

“But I am quite capable of doing it by myself like I’ve always done it. For God shake I changed me tire this morning.”

“Oh don’t let him hear you say that. Give me the keys and if anyone asks a kind neighbor changed it for you. Or we’ll never hear the end of it.”

“But I don’t understand”

“Come come let’s go in your office to give me your keys.”

“But….’’

“She will be right back Mr. Larkson” July said dragging Maya from his office.

“Hey don’t drag me like that”

As they entered Maya’s office July closed the door behind them.

“It is really silly for all the girls to depend on Dean to fix your cars. Where is your independence?”

“Ok what happened in there? Why were you shouting at each other like that?”

“He was upset I was late.”

“Why? I told him you were having car trouble. And it is not as if all of us haven’t been late one time or another”

“Well he was furious with me”

“I just don’t get it he is always nice to everybody and he seemed to like you at my party”

“Perhaps he doesn’t appreciate the sober me as much as the drunk one”

“I am sure that is not it, maybe something happened that got him upset and when you got in he took it off on you.”

“That’s not very professional of him. Does he do such a thing often?”

“Nope. I have never seen him that angry.”

“Well I should go back in before he gets snippy again.”

“Ok, but I am sure it was an one time thing.”

“I hope so.”

“Give me your keys!”

“Is this really necessary?”

“You want him to get mad at me too?”

“I thought you said he didn’t do such things”

“Since today we had a first try let’s not get a second one”

“Ok ok take it, and Dean better not mess with my baby”

“Don’t worry it is in good hands”

“Thank him for me”

“Yap. Go back in there”

“Ya give me a second to regroup”

“Don’t take long”
