Chapter 43

The months passed by, and they got even much more attached to each other and their baby. They went to their regular appointments to the doctor and he was assuring them each time that the baby and the mother were fine. The bump in her belly that was barely noticeable before was now a proud tell-tale of their scandalous activities eight months ago. Maya and Christy had a blast buying maternity clothes each month. In the beginning Maya thought that she would have to buy them once and that they would expand. It did not turned out that way. The damn things did not fit her after a month. And when she tried to buy them bigger, they were awful on her until she reached the weight they were designed for.

Nicolas of course was amused that she complained about having to shop for new clothes. All his previous relationships practically lived to shop. What was even more weird was the fact that not only she did not expect him to buy her clothes, she actually insisted that she was the one to pay for them. It got ridiculous at one time that they went together to shop and they had a fight in front of the cashier because she insisted that she was the one to pay. He did not want to upset her further and he retreated but when they got out of the shop, he promised her that he was going to pay for all the things they would buy for his little fairy and that he would not let her get the satisfaction of buying not even a shock.

The ultrasound had confirmed Nicolas's obsession that the baby was a girl. That night after they left the doctor's office, Nicolas was behaving like a drunk teenager. He saluted strangers on the street, he even kissed an old lady, and danced three blocks to the place they had parked their car. After that he would not stop talking to everyone he came in contact with about his little fairy, for two whole weeks. Counting that out everything was back to normal at the office. They worked side by side with Nicolas just fine, and the rest of her co workers behaved like she was not the future wife of their boss.

One noon, after lunch break, Nicolas received an invitation for a ball that was going to be held in their town that year, in which all the big companies of the country in his field were usually invited. After the first two years since the foundation of his company, he always received an invitation which was a great honour for him. This year his was twice as happy about it because he would have the chance to show off his future wife and their little fairy. After reading the invitation he immediately called Maya and asked her to come to his office. He did not want to tire her but he loved watching her entering his office, because first entered the belly and then Maya. It was an adorable sight that he would not get to enjoy it for too long since she was already too heavy to move around easily and he had to start going to her for whatever he needed. Soon enough the belly entered and he cherished the moment!

“Hello sweetie, are you feeling OK?”

“Yes Nicolas I am fine. Don't you think you would be the first one to know if something was wrong?”

“I am just asking fairy, you know how much I worry for my two beautiful fairies''

“I am not a fairy anymore Nicolas, I am a whale!”

“Who said such awful things about my fairy? He is going to pay for it!”

“I don't need anyone to tell me, I have eyes and I see the expanse my body covers nowadays.”

“You are always going to be the most beautiful fairy in the world. For a few more weeks I mean, then you are going to have great competition.”

Maya looked at him alarmed and he went to her and hugged her, placing his hands on her belly .

“When this little fairy comes out of your belly I am sure she will be just like you! Both of you will be so beautiful that it will be impossible for me to decide which one is the best looking.”

Maya smiled lovingly at him and kissed him.

“Now what did you want me for? Please don't tell me you got me here just to see my belly entering your office. Do you think I don't know you do that every time you call for me?” Nicolas had the decency to blush and answered before her anger got to fire up.

“I received an invitation today, to the annual ball for companies in our field of work. It will be held here in a week and I wanted to give you heads up so that you have time to go and buy something that formal. And before you say anything, because I am the reason you will be going I will be the one paying for your dress!”

“Hey I am not going for you... There will be so many interesting people of our field there to meet. It is going to be exiting! Maybe I will get a better offer for a job there...” She teased him.

“Don't you dare even hint that you are open in such suggestions.” He growled. “You are mine now and I am going to flaunt you there and make everybody jealous that they missed their chance to recruit you to their company, let alone their life, like I have.” He moved his hand lovingly on her belly. “I am going to show off both my fairies and everyone is going to be so envious of me. It will be the best ball ever!!!”

“I thought that this ball was a chance to close some more deals.”

“Nah! It is just a chance to gloat about how well you did the year before. And I have the wild card this year.”

“Oh yeah? The trip to Europe?” she teased some more.

“Nope the fairy combo here” he hugged her more tightly. Then he took out his cell phone and dialled a number. He did not say anything to Maya and she looked at him questioningly. He placed his index to his mouth and shushed her.

“Yes hello Christy how are you today?” Maya's eyed got wide instantly! “I got you a great shopping trip! Maya and I are going to this annual ball and she will need a dress that will show off both her and the little fairy in her belly. Come here to take my credit card and Maya and do your worst.” He chuckled and closed the phone. Maya was looking at him irritated.

“What did you do? What did she say?”

“She said that she always does her worst and as for what I did, I think I unleashed the devil.” He chuckled at that.

“Oh don't you have any mercy? She is going to drag me for shop to shop for hours. This little fairy is not getting any lighter you know.” She pouted and he paled. He did not want to tire her. Now he was regretting his impulsiveness. He run to the phone and called July.

“July come in here please.” July entered a few minutes later.

“What is it Nicolas? You want me to get you the file for the next meeting?”

“How many more meetings do I have Jules?”

“Three.”

“Good, bring me the files for all of them and get your things. You are going on a shopping trip with Maya and July. You are not, I repeat, you are not going to let Maya get tired. You will make sure that you make plenty of stops for rest and that she eats regularly.”

“Nicolas for god's sake I am not a baby, I can take care of myself. You don't need to appoint guard dogs for me.” Maya was getting irritated. July arfed like a dog.

“Don't spoil a shopping trip for me, if I stay here he will torture me while you are gone.” July told her pleadingly.

“Oh OK. But I am mad at you.” Maya pointed her index on Nicolas's chest, turned and left the office. July was right behind her winking at Nicolas.

Half an hour later Christy had arrived to the office and with Nicolas's credit card on hand the three women left for a ball gown hunt. They went to the mall and after each shop they visited, July had them sitting on a bench for ten minutes so that Maya would not get tired. Thankfully at the fifth shop they visited they found the perfect gown. It was red and black and showed perfectly her figure making her look sexy no matter the baby belly on the front.

After the dress, came the time for the shoes that were not very difficult to find since they already had the dress and knew what to look for. The shoes they chose had low heals since she was not able to wear heals after the fifth month of her pregnancy, but they were beautiful nevertheless. Since by the time they were finished it was near dinner time they decided to go for dinner together and they put the cost of it on Nicolas's credit card. Maya normally would not have agreed to that but she was still mad at him. It served him right for trusting it to Christy.

Nicolas came to the mall after they were finished to pick up Maya. She did not have her car with her since she had gone with Nicolas to work in one car. It was getting pretty uncomfortable to drive with her belly and all, so she did not complain much anymore when he insisted that they went and left together from work. Not that she did not like driving with him, she just wanted to tease him from time to time.

“So how did your shopping trip go?”

“It was nice thanks you. I got what I needed.”

“I can't wait to see it.” He said excitedly”

“Too bad because you are not going to see it before the night of the ball.”

“What? Why?” He said disappointed.

“Because you ambushed me on this whole shopping trip. I am still mad at you.”

“But you had a nice time did you not?” he pouted.

“That is beside the point. In order to have boundaries you have to get punished.” She said sternly.

“Well we know now, why the little fairy is not going to get spoiled after all.” He mumbled.

“Keep that up and you will get detention more often than your daughter!” she said sternly again, and turned her head to the side window of the car so that he would not see that she was smirking happily.

She kept her word and did not show him the dress until the night of the party, but he was greatly compensated when she emerged from the bathroom ready to go. She was enchanting and he remained glued next to the bed looking at her with wide eyes.

“My god you look amazing. I really am the luckiest man on earth.”

“So I guess you like?” she said cheekily. She loved that he still found her sexy no matter her big belly. He kept proving it every night while making love to her like a starved man.

“Like? Nooooo. I love!!! Come here to me.”

“Oh no. I am not coming next to you while you are next to the bed. We will not be making it to the ball anytime soon if I do.” she teased but Nicolas knew she was not far from the truth. He went next to her, kissed her lightly to her lips and said.

“Lets go. The quicker we get there, the quicker I am getting you back to my bed.”

They went to the ball and as soon as they entered they started mingling with people. Nicolas introduced her proudly to a couple of other company owners that were apparently college buddies of him. After they all talked for a while, they all congratulated him on his great luck of having such a beautiful and apparently smart woman to his life and wished them both the best for their baby. They warned Nicolas that they were expecting wedding invitations soon, and a couple of them hinted that they wanted to know the date early enough to clean their best man suits and make the necessary arrangements for the bachelor party. Maya smirked and warned them back that if they got him into trouble during the bachelor party they would have to deal with her. Nicolas watched the byplay between them so proud he could burst.

They moved on and while they were mingling they came up a couple Nicolas did not know. They seemed to know Maya though. The woman smirked and said menacingly.

“Well I see you are pregnant again. Which pour guy did you snatch up this time?” she said and Nicolas saw Maya pale as a white sheet.
