Chapter 41

The next morning Maya woke up to run to the bathroom again, but now they knew what to do. Nicholas brought her some of his mother's remedy and soon enough she was feeling better and they prepared themselves to go to the office. Maya was a little bit anxious about what her colleagues might tell her, but Nicholas assured her that everything was going to be OK.

“Sweety! I told you everyone is happy for us! You don't have to be stressed about it. Just try to think of the positive aspects of it.”

“And what might be that?”

“We can go and leave from the office like a normal couple in one car. No more sneaking in and out of it like we are thieves. We can come and go now as we please. Plus, you can go with Christy and buy all those maternity clothes; she has been grilling both our ears all the time. Shopping will be fun right?”

“Well! it will definitely be a relief for me. My clothes are pretty restricting my waist nowadays. Your little fairy is making herself obvious whether we want it or not.”

“Oh I want it. I definitely want!” he said, took her in his arms and kissed her.

“Come on, lover boy! We have to go to the office.”

“We can be a little late. We have the morning sickness excuse.”

“Hey! I am feeling better with the remedy and I don't want to jinx it. So, come on we are leaving.” She said sternly.

“OK. you are the boss.” He pouted.

“No I am not, but my boss is turning out to be one naughty boy.” She said teasingly and ran for the door before he had time to grab her. If he had succeeded they would probably go to the office at noon.

Maya entered her office and sat on her desk to check her appointments for the day. She arranged her files. Because they did not know how late she would be that morning her first appointment was pushed back at 10 o clock. Jane was the first one to come to her office, once a gossip always a gossip, would fit perfectly.

“Good morning Maya, how are you feeling today?”

“A little better. Thank you. I got a recipe of a remedy that helps the stomach. It has done wonders for me. On Friday I was a wreck.”

“Oh that is great news! The first months can be a real problem. I remember when I had my baby I was a total mess, the first three months. I didn't know what time you would come to the office today and I rescheduled your morning appointments for noon. I hope you don't mind.”

“No, of course not. That is a big help since it will help me catch up on what I missed on Friday.”

“You were away a day not a year, you did not miss anything important.” July said entering the office and holding her usual flowers. “I missed them on Friday when you did not come to work.” she remarked and winked at Maya.

“He really is very gentleman like, to you, isn't he? You are very lucky! Not that you don't deserve it, of course.” Jane said.

“Of course she deserves this and more. And if he ever does something disagreeable, you tell me and I will make him pay.” July defended her.

“Thank you both of you. How exactly are you going to make him pay July?” Maya said clearly amused. Trust it to July to lighten the mood.

“Oh I don't know, I might mix up salt with sugar in his coffee, his appointments can be packed the one after the other without time even a bathroom break. Things like that. I am only human. I mix up things from time to time.” She winked at Maya and she laughed with all her heart. By now more of the girls had come to the office and they started asking Maya how she was and when she would marry Nicolas. Maya felt a little ganged up by them. She couldn't answer them all at once.

“Are you having a party and I am not invited?” Nicholas's voice was heard from Maya's office door as he entered her office as well. “It seems like half of my staff is crowded here. And to think I have given you one of the small offices.”

“Oh, hello boss, do you want something?” July asked.

“Apart from my morning coffee, my schedule for the day, and my assistant to arrange our combined meetings for today, nothing at all.”

All the girls started feeling uncomfortable now. They thought that he would join their conversation, but apparently he was all business today.

“We just came to congratulate Maya for the baby boss. And now we were going to make arrangements for the baby shower.” Jane said apologetically.

“How about you discuss it over lunch, today or tomorrow? You have plenty of time to finalise your plans, but I am sure I don't have a lot of time before my next appointment.”

“Sorry boss, we will be out of your hair. Don't get too frustrated. We were just happy for the baby.” Another girl said.

“Don't try to manipulate the father. It is not going to be so easy for you. Now, quick to your work, all of you.”

“OK...” they grumbled but left. July was the last one to leave.

“July, I will be in my office in a minute. Bring my coffee there.”

As soon as July left Nicholas closed the door and went to Maya's desk.

“Are you OK fairy?" he asked."Did they just ambush you?"

"Yes they ambushed me a little. July tried to help but you were the ultimate saviour.”Maya replied in a light tone.

“Aaaah! I fulfilled my role then. Now I can go to work.” He kissed her and left her office.

Maya proceeded to work and stopped for a late lunch since she had plenty of noon appointments. She went down to the cafeteria and found all the girls waiting for her.

“We took late lunches too, to eat with you.” Jane said. “Grab something and come sit with us”

Maya knew she could not avoid it any longer. She bought a sandwich and went to sit with them. They bombarded her with questions about her relationship with Nicholas and she gave them the short version, about them hooking up after he came from Europe. She neglected, of course, to mention that they had hooked up after July's party. She just said that they were spending all their time at office together and their mutual respect for one another suddenly turned into a love affair. Then she expertly averted the talk to the baby shower. Thankfully their shopping mania took over and they talked about where the shower should be held, the list of people, the food and all the things she would need as a new mother.

Maya was surprised about the ton of information she was bombarded with not only about baby accessories but also about all the planning a party like that needed. Suddenly, she was very happy that they had postponed their marriage after the baby came. If all that was needed for a baby shower, imagine what the planning of a wedding would look like. They set the date for the seventh month of her pregnancy and Nicholas called right after that to remind her of their appointment that would be held in ten minutes.

Both she and July ran upstairs. Maya went to Nicolas's office, while July stopped by her desk to bring them the files they would need.

“So, how did lunch with the girls go?” he asked her as soon as she entered.

“It was OK. Of course, they asked about us and I gave them the short version of the story. After that we mostly talked about the baby shower. It was much better than I feared and I am relieved it passed.”

“Great, so now that everyone knows about us I can easily do this.” He reached for her and kissed her passionately.

“Hey, our client will come in any minute now. Please behave yourself.” she chastised him. “And after all if they see us like this, they might start asking again about how big equipment you have and how good you are in bed.” Nicholas gasped.

“They did not ask those things.” He said horrified.

“Oh yes they asked that and much more. I actually had to answer some of those questions.”

“Like what? What did you tell them fairy?”

“Well they asked how long your equipment can work?”

“You did not answer that of course.”

“But I had too, sweety pie.” she batted her eyes to him innocently.

“What did you tell them?” He was even more horrified now.

“I told them that it is a little bit defective and you don't last over five minutes.” She told him naturally like she was talking about the weather. He looked at her totally freaked now. He opened his mouth but no words could come out. Maya started laughing hard and pointing at him.

“Oh my god! your face was priceless. Sweety, of course, I didn't answer any of these questions. After all you know how satisfied I am from our lovemaking sessions.” She kissed him lightly on his mouth and he was about to grab her for teasing him, but he did not have time because July announced their appointment was there. She brought their client in along with the files they would need. Maya was not prepared at all but Nicholas had covered all the points she was not familiar with.

A couple appointments later, they were done for the day. Nicholas took her home promising to take revenge for the prank she had pulled on him.

“It is going to be a fun night” Maya thought.
