i am sorry i was a little bit late but i have a lot of problems in my workplace now that i returned from vacation and i am afraid that in the fututre two months things are going to be chaotick and i will not be able to update as much as i would like...

so sorry in advance...

Chapter 16

Maya made a small stop, before going home, to the super market. Usually she stocked her place with groceries on weekends but this was a strange weekend. On Saturday morning she had done some work she had not finished on Friday at the office. She really wanted everything perfect for when she finally met her new boss for the first time. Well how nice that had finally turned out right? After she had finished her work she had cleaned her house as she always did on Saturdays. She liked her little routines. Liked having a program. That always irritated her ex. He claimed that she was not spontaneous enough but always came to her place when he kept running out of groceries. She wondered how he liked his new slut of a girlfriend that surely never bothered with mundane things like grocery shopping and house cleaning. For her the word shopping was related only to shoes and clothes.

“Ya well I hope he likes living with his sloppy pig of a girlfriend” Maya said to herself while putting some cleaning products in her supermarket basket.

When she reached her place she had too many bags in her hands. She had remembered of her ex and got mad. So she took it out on grocery shopping. Right now she had enough cleaning supplies for a couple of months.

“Well at least they are not things that expire so it will not go to waste.” She kept mumbling to herself while opening her apartment door.

“My God where have you been? Has the tyrant kept you working late again? You know you should ask him for a raise. You work too much to be treated that way” Christy said apparently frustrated. She was sitting on Maya’s couch with delivery menus all around her.

“What are you doing here again? Are we roommates again and I did not get the memo?” Maya said a little bit irritated. She appreciated Christy’s support this past months but she really needed some peace and quiet once in a while after work. The luxury of returning home and just taking a cinnamon scented bath, until she felt relaxed enough to go straight to bed.

”Come on don’t bitch about it! You know you love me as much as I love you. I was worried about you. I wanted to know how things were with your boss today.” Christy said making her lost puppy face that Maya could never resist. And she knew it and took advantage of it often. At least this time it was for a good cause.

“Walking in an empty house once in a while wouldn’t be half bad you know…”

“Teeeeeeeeell me! Did you talk to him like we said yesterday? ”

“Yes I did!”

“Wow tell me all about it”

“Weeeeell I am kind of hungry…”

“That is what the delivery menus here are for. Take a pick. You will tell me all about your day while we are waiting for the food.”

“Mmmmm I don’t think so. I don’t want to eat here. Some Chinese food sounds good and I know just the place to go.”

“You are such a tease. Give me five minutes to change my clothes so that we can leave.”

“There is no hurry. I want to take a shower first.”

“Hmffff hurry up. You’ll tell me everything on the way.”

“Naaaah maybe after we order” Maya said smiling to herself and went to the bathroom.

“You are impossible” Christy yelled at her and Maya giggled in the bathroom.

After about 10 minutes she heard Christy knocking on her bathroom door and shouting “Get your cute butt out of there or I am coming in and dragging you to dinner on your birthday suit.”

Maya couldn’t help but laugh. “I am coming, keep your pants on”

“Ya well if you are not ready in five we will be going without yours on.”

At that point Maya exited the bathroom giggling. “I am done showering. I will quickly put some clothes on and we will be on our way. My my you are impatient today.”

“And you are curiously happy. Now I am even more curious about your meeting with your boss today.” At that comment Maya made her face look as neuter as possible and replied

“I have no idea what you are talking about. Now leave me alone for a minute to get dressed. I am hungry and you are delaying me.”

“I am delaying you? What a nerve. I am going out but you have 3 minutes to get ready. Not a second more” With that she run out of the room and started counting the seconds loudly. Maya got dressed as quickly as humanly possible and left her bedroom.

“Let’s go we are taking my car” she said and left the apartment not bothering to look back. She knew Christy was on her tail.

Twenty minutes later they reached the Chinese restaurant. During the drive Maya had not uttered a single word, while Christy had not stopped asking questions. So when they finally entered and placed their order she was about to burst.

“We ordered now talk!”

“OK! The good news is I am not fired.”

“Ha I knew if you gave him the talk he would not be able to tell you a thing”

“Do you want me to say what happened or not?”

“Sorry, keep going I will be a good girl and I will not interrupt you again.”

“Hmf. When I went to his office I told him that I wanted to talk to him about the night we spent together but he stopped me.”

“What WHY?” Christy exclaimed but Maya glared at her “Sorry I am zipping it” she said and Maya continued

“He stopped me because he wanted to apologize for his behavior to me yesterday. He said his behavior was not professional and should not have given me my purse like that.”

“He apologized???? I can’t shut up can’t I?” Christy grinned. Maya ignored her and continued. Deep inside she wanted Christy’s input on what happened that morning.

“So I explained to him how I was drunk and I did not even remember meeting him let alone sleeping with him.”

“I am sure he took that well..”Christy laughed. Maya coughed to show her she should shut up and continued.

“To tell you the truth he seemed astounded and after a short discussion over the matter he assured me he does not sleep with his employees and that he was tipsy himself and he let that happen between us. Then he asked me how I was so sure that no one had seen as leaving the party together. You know I had not even thought of that before. And as soon the idea was planted in my head I almost fainted.”

“Why? So you left with him. What is the big deal?”

“What is the big deal? I instantly had images of my colleagues gossiping and making fun of me for trying to seduce my boss and him not wanting to continue the relationship after one night with me.”

“He said such a thing? What an ass. Will he apologizing for that too tomorrow?”

 “He did not say it in so many words. But when he said that he does not sleep with his employees and that was an onetime thing because he was a little bit drunk himself, I am sure that’s what he meant.”

“I am not so sure… Maybe he really has a policy against colleagues sleeping together, bosses included on that deal.”

“I have not heard of such a thing these past months”

“Maybe you should look into it. Don’t get worked up for no reason. And stop worrying about what people might say. When two people leave a party together, it doesn’t mean they sleep together. It means that they left the same time or that they shared a ride”

“You of all people know the nightmare I lived at my last workplace after my relationship blew up on my face. I am not eager to relieve it ever, let alone so soon.”

“Don’t fret about it if you deny it and he doesn’t confirm it you’ll be fine”

“I will be fine because the chances of someone seeing us together are really slim since we apparently did not leave the party together. I left before him and he found me walking to my house. He asked me if I wanted to share his cab drive. Apparently I accepted”

“So why did he ask you how did you know that no one saw you?” Christy asked pretty curious now

“I don’t know” Maya said a little baffled.

“I am certain he was checking to see if you were telling the truth about not remembering anything. The slime ball” Maya looked at her gapping. She knew she was probably right. How come she had not thought of that…

“You are probably right. And as much as it pisses me to say it, maybe he had a right to check my story out, since I was hitting on him that night and now I was claiming that I had totally forgotten the whole thing”

“You hit on him???”

 Maya gave her a sheepish smile and nodded.

“Well, what are you waiting? Give me the details. Apparently on your previous narration you neglected to give me the juicy parts….” Christy told her grinning and Maya could not help but blush. “Oh my god what did you do? It has been years since I last saw you blush”

“It is not a big deal”

“Ya that’s why you resemble the tomatoes we are eating on our salad”

“Speaking of the salad, it came five minutes and we have not touched it yet. I am famished and it looks delicious”

“Hey hey hey don’t change the subject like that! What did you do?”

“When I left the party and I was walking home he was in a cab and stopped to offer me a ride.”

“You have already told me that part”

“And I told him I would like to ride him” Maya whispered.

“You said what? Man they sure served some good staff on July’s party. I am pretty sure you have never been so bold in your life”

“No, and I am so ashamed”

“For what? At last you joined the human race. Us mortals with our weaknesses”

Maya laughed at that. “I have weaknesses.”

“Apart from choosing badly on your last relationship, I think you are too perfect for your own good. You have to take some chances once in a while to have some gain.”

“I am not such a goodie goodie as you make me sound. My previous relationship obviously states that.”

“Honey the only thing your previous relationship stated was that that slime of a man managed to trick you and seduce you and in the end deprive you of a couple o years of your life. But enough of that. I want to make a toast to new beginnings.”

“To new beginnings” Maya agreed

“And hot ass bosses” Christy winked at Maya

“Eat or I will eat your half too”

“Hey keep your paws out of my half of the food” Christy pretended to be mad but could not hide her grin. She knew that Maya seemed to like her new boss more than a boss. She hoped only he deserved her attention. She was such a good girl that it was a shame to end up with a jerk once again. Somehow she had to check out Maya’s boss for herself. That kind of thoughts kept going threw her mind while they were quietly eating their dinner. Maya sure had an appetite again this night.

After they finished their food they chit chated for a while enjoying their drinks, and around nine Maya proposed that they left since she was too tired. When they left the restaurant and headed toward their car they saw two men exiting the bar across the street. The one guy was holding the other that was obvious drunk. They stopped on the side of the road and the sober one hailed a cab and put the drunk one inside. At that point Maya exclaimed “Oh my God”

“What what is it?” Christy asked worried

“That is my boss?”

“Which one the drunk or the sober one?”

“The drunk one. I can’t believe it! Well his appointment must have been quiet interesting to keep him out this late and in that condition” Maya said sarcastically obviously jealous. In her mind Nicolas had spent the whole day with a gorgeous lady not caring about what happened at the office, at her. He obviously had too much of a good time that in the end he got drunk.

“Come with me” Christy said

“What, wait don’t go there” Maya hissed, but it was too late Christy had already crossed the road.

“Hello sir, is everything ok with that gentleman. He seemed really drunk”

“Ya, he will have a hangover in the morning but he will be just fine.”

“Oh I see, one of the regulars that overdo it on their drinking.” Christy winked at him

“Oh no, he is no such case. He just heard some bad news about a lady that he obviously cares about and he was upset about it. He will be ok”

“Ah ok goodnight then.”

“Goodnight” the man said and returned to the bar.

Maya was sick with jealousy. He had another woman in his life that he really cared about. Christy saw the sadness on her face and tried to console her.

“Oh sweety don’t worry I am sure this was not about a current relationship of his. I am sure it someone in the past.”

“Ya right! It is not my business after all. Let’s go I am tired” Maya said and did not utter a word until they reached their apartments. There she said goodbye to Christy and went straight to bed. All night she kept having dreams of Nicolas in the arms of another woman and she woke up panicked after each one. That was not good news and she knew it….
