hello jury, i'm here today to prove my case on how some writers are running the book community. bruh anyway just wanted to do that for a little fun bit. do you think i'll be a good lawyer?
by now im sure you've read the title. and yea. i can not stand books that label things like sa, r–pe, abuse, and trauma as things that correctly correlate with dark romance. hello? is this mic on?....because that's not how that works.
i've read a book about a serial killer giving stockholm syndrome to a victim of theirs, that convinced me that they were in love more than some of these books on here. dark romance is a mutual thing. maybe it's hardcore kinks that the two parties may have, maybe it's about the mafia or it's a hardcore enemies to lovers type thing. but it is a mutual thing.
writing about someone getting beat on and forced to relive their trauma is not a correct thing to put in a book labeled "dark romance" hellooo? call it a documentary on abuse victims before you ever try to convince me that they fall in love, and have a happy life together. yea okay, if i was trapped in an abusive relationship with someone I barely knew yea falling in love with them would be the least of my worries.
and i have read enough dark romance – here on wattpad and on books & kindle – to know what real dark romance looks like. and it's not that. sorry to say this but you've failed in convincing me that these two characters love and deserve each other.
its writers like these that i think are similar to colleen hoover. just like her, they try to persuade us into that "omg THIS is romance!" when in full honestly its not.
now i know what you might be saying, "well if you don't like it don't read" yep i know how to click out of a book, thanks for your help. "that's why its called a dark romance for a reason" omg! random person now im glad you said that.
we like to focus on the word dark but forget the romance part. now let me look up the definition of romance. let's see what pops up...
oh interesting..very interesting now let's see some examples of romance in movies...
hmm also very interesting. now it doesn't take a lot of brain power to know what romance is and what "love" is. and i do understand dark romance deals in different genres of love "outside the norm" you can say.
but there's one thing you can not say is that sa, r–pe, abuse, and trauma, belong with anything labeled as a "romance." its an outrageous claim. and i hate to see it, it just grinds my gears. at least make the story about finding self-love, moving away from abusive environments. something!
thank you for coming to my ted talk!
