Three Things you love besides writing/reading?
1) Watching TV/Movies, oh and I’m going to club this point to include singing, thanks.
2) Saving Earthworms (don’t ask)
3) Food
Three Things you hate?
1) Getting Up Early (sorry, had to be said)
2) Arrogant Guys (I know I write about them, but in real life…ugggh)
3) Homework (I’m a kid, okay?)
Why do you write?
I’m trying to think of something deep but I honestly don’t know. I have always written; it’s my ‘thing’. My cousin dances, my other cousin plays football, and I write. It’s the natural order of things. Writing feels good to me, and it remains entirely mine, no matter what.
Out of all your stories, which one is your favorite?
Okay, first off, I have three posted stories, out of which one is fiction (Shoot the Jerk), one is filled with my childhood poetry (13 Shades of Innocence) and the last one is an anti-rant (About Them Clichés). I still haven’t worked up the guts to post my essays or the more ‘serious’ stuff because introverts are introverts after all. But out of these ‘About Them Clichés’ is the one I enjoyed writing the most, because I didn’t mince my words, and for the first time, I posted what I really felt. And it’s nice to know that people relate to that kind of writing.
Wow, now I feel like I’m betraying the other two, so I’m just going to go ahead and make this answer longer. Sorry.
Shoot the Jerk will always be my baby, simply because it’s my first story. I started it two years ago, and even though I felt immensely relieved when I finished it, I still love it, okay? *wipes tear*
13 Shades of Innocence, on the other hand, was some sort of twisted confidence building dare type thing. As I’ve mentioned, I’m an introvert, and introverts are legendary for their numerous untouched bucket lists. So I posted my childhood poetry, and crossed an item off my list, and oh my, did I feel brave. *sigh*
Next question now.
How do you create your characters?
Interesting question. I think, I don’t know, I might be wrong, but when something happens in my life and I wish I could have handled it differently, I hear this voice in my head saying “If you were one of those gorgeous, confident, sassy characters in one of those books, you would have done this.” It’s probably weird and not at all true, but I definitely make my characters do things I would never ever ever have done. Then once I have my main character, I build the rest of the characters around him/her, so that they balance him/her. But everybody does that. So, nothing new.
Out of your characters, which one are you the most like?
Oh Martha, for sure. My friends, too, will probably have to push me into a date, and I won’t have the slightest idea about how the guy feels about me. And when I fall in love, I’ll probably be heart-broken and eat loads of ice-cream. Also, I have a weird dressing sense. And I study, okay. Don’t hate me :P
What do you do when you have writer’s block?
TheStupefying’s Guide To Writer’s Block:
Eating.
Going for a walk.
Listening to songs, being dramatic, hoping that I’ll get inspired.
Writing crappy chapters so I realize how crappy they are and snap out of my block.
Ditching the project (for extreme despair only)
Doodling.
Talking to my friends, hoping they say something that I can make one of my characters say. My poor friends, they have no idea how I use them.
Surfing the net.
Watching TV/Movies
If all else fails, sleep on it.
(Really though, if I’d known a ‘real cure’, I would’ve been a zillionaire by now) (G.S. Glow's Commentary - Amen!)
How do you plan out your stories?
I hate this question. I don’t plan them, and admitting this makes me feel like a major fraud. For Shoot the Jerk, I’d written the first ten chapters long before I posted them. When I’d first started writing it, I hadn’t even realized I was planning it out as a story. It just happened, which is why there are a lot of weird moments in my plot. So, all you writers, plan your stories, trust me, they’ll get a lot better. Or, on the other hand, you could end up like me, too in love with your first story to change it even if the plot doesn’t make sense sometimes. But I swear, I will thoroughly plan my next story :D
About Them Clichés was born out of pure rage. I was going through this completely unreasonable rant against clichés, and I swear some people who were trying to defend their books were almost in tears. Of course I won’t mention the name of the book, but rest assured I remember every bit of it (including the fact that it was riddled with spelling mistakes…yeah, take that.) and I was feeling very avenger-ish. So, About Them Clichés was born out of my heroism *cough* and it was a spur of the moment post.
I’ve already explained the story behind 13 Shades of Innocence so I won’t go into it again. Also, thank you for being patient and reading this, especially since it was a pretty long interview. *sheepish grin* I’m sorry I just feel so important when someone asks me questions, I get carried away. I would make a really bad famous person.
Thanks for doing this interview, and everybody on Wattpad, Keep writing!
Okay, I’m officially done now.
