13. Euphoria

Mood: Breathe Me by Sia

Louis made his way to his bed without a word. His fingers were starting to twitch again. He felt vulnerable. Harry watched him with a sense of vigilance.

"I'm okay. I'm okay." Louis repeated to himself, sitting on his bed. Harry sat against the wall. He decided to give him his space. He reached over and grabbed 'The Perks of Being a Wallflower' from Louis' bedside table. He opened it to the first page and began to read.

August 25th, 1991

Dear Friend,

I am writing to you because she said you listen and understand and didn't try to sleep with that person at the party even though you could have. Please don't try and figure out who she is because then you might figure out who I am, and I really don't want you to do that. I will call people by different names or generic names because I don't want you to find me. I didn't enclose a return address for the same reason. I mean nothing bad by this. Honest. I just--

Louis let out an ugly sob, curling into himself. Harry looked up at him, putting the book down and stumbling towards him.

"Lou?" he whispers trailing his fingers, down the length of his arm.

"W-What?" he asks looking at Harry with glassy eyes.

"Are you really okay? Do you need me to get you anything? I can make a cup of tea?" Louis starts shaking his head.

"I need..." He doesn't need to finish.

"No you don't sweetheart. Here, move aside." Louis inches away and Harry climbs into the bed. He pulls the small boy basically on top of him. Louis was shivering slightly.

"I-I...this isn't right..." Louis mumbles, starting move away. Harry shushes him and pulls him closer.

"Forget about Nick. Forget about everything." The taller boy says, tangling their legs together. Harry takes Louis' dainty hands in his, laying them on his chest.

"I can't. T-This is w-wrong." Louis stutters and Harry sighs.

"What if I told you Nick doesn't mean anything to me? What if I told you that you mean more to me than he ever will? What if I told you I just want to comfort you? Make you feel safe?" Harry asks.

"I won't believe you..."

"Why not?"

"Because...Jace tells me--"

"Jace is wrong. He wants you to feel like that. It's not true. At all. Okay?" He says sternly. Louis looks down. He didn't want to believe him. Jace had left a few minutes ago, saying he was too embarrassed by Louis' cries to stay any longer.

"Harry..."

"How can I prove to you that I care about you? What will make you see that you do matter?" Harry asks, tightening his grip on his small waist.

"I don't..."

"Look at me. Look up at me, please, babe." Louis hesitantly looks up finding a teary eyed Harry staring back. Louis' breath hitched because really, he's never felt like this before and it was all so new to him. He could see the beauty in the world in just his eyes.

And he was gone.

Harry leaned down, connecting their lips in a slow, soft kiss. Louis didn't pull away, or freeze this time. Instead, hesitantly and unsurely, he kissed back. The kiss was full of ardor and vigor of a real first kiss. Harry tasted of vanilla and mint. Harry gripped Louis' hip, pulling him even closer, trying to mold them together in a way not possible.

Harry breathed into his mouth, a light and content sound. They pulled away. Harry leaned down and kissed him, once, twice, one last time before pulling away completely. Louis looked away, shyly, bringing his fingers to his lips, touching them softly.

"That was..." Harry couldn't put it to words. It was something Nick and him didn't have. A spark that was never there. A spark that he has just experienced with this fragile boy.

"I've never...kissed anyone...I..." Louis was at loss for words. He's never been this physically and emotionally close to someone. It was overwhelming...and rapturous.

"Amazing." Harry finally finished, "You're amazing." Louis blushed. They stayed like, silent, their limbs tangled, just listening to each other breathe.

"What about Nick?" Louis knows he has to ask. Harry sighs. He knew this subject would be brought up. In all honesty, Harry didn't know what he was going to do about Nick. They've been dating for three years. They started dating Freshman year of high school and were planning to move in together when they graduated.

What could he do?

He didn't just want to end three years of an exemplary relationship. But at the same time, he had something with Louis. Something that was indescribable. Something great.

So instead of answering the question directly he tries to drop the subject.

"I'll take care of it." Louis seems content with the answer. He hums and nuzzles himself into Harry's chest. He lies there listening to his heart beat and thinks, this is was happiness is. This is what it means when people love life and only see beauty in the world. This is love.

"Foolish boy. He doesn't care about you. You're like a doll to him. Eventually he'll grow out of you and toss you out. This won't last forever. I can promise you that." Louis shut his eyes. Just like Harry said, Jace is wrong. He's wrong.

Harry noticed his tense frame and rubs his back soothingly. Louis slowly starts to calm down. He knows he's overreacting. He knows he should stop listening to his fictitious 'friend' and enjoy the euphoria that has been given to him.

His muscles ease back and he fits himself back into Harry's warm and welcoming arms. His eyes droop as Harry hums a Stevie Wonder song that Louis doesn't know. He feels Harry's arms secure around him and eventually he falls asleep, forgetting about Jace and his cruel words. He forgets all his problems and hopes Harry will still be there, holding him, when he wakes up.

And just like Jace said, boy was he foolish.
