CHAPTER THIRTEEN, spring break

Spring break is finally here and it's just what Oliver needed. Noah, his older brother, happened to have spring break the same time Oliver and Dahlia do so he decided on coming to Salt Lake City to spend more time with his family.

After the talk that Oliver had with his dad about not wanting to be a pilot he felt like a weight was lifted off his shoulders. He had always wanted to tell his dad he doesn't want to be a pilot, he just never got the courage to do so. His dad was actually much more understanding and supportive of his decision than Oliver thought he would be which made him even more relieved.

Oliver even told him how he had made his own YouTube channel and had around almost a million followers his dad was beyond proud of him. The old Oliver would be too shy to even put a video of himself covering a song let alone a video of himself singing his own song he wrote.  Even though it was spring break his mom still had to work, but she was off of work more than usual. His dad was planning to be home the whole week as well. Oliver was currently in his bedroom, sitting at his desk. He had his laptop on his desk and was strumming on his acoustic guitar. He was playing a new song he was working on, naming the song 'Wanted'.

Miss Jenn had made a meeting for the cast members to meet on Zoom to talk about what they should do about North High. Oliver glanced at the time on his laptop, realizing it was time to for the meeting. He joined the Zoom link as he set his guitar on the floor beside him.

"Hey, guys!" Oliver greeted, seeing that Carlos, Miss Jenn, Nini, and Seb were the ones on the Zoom call so far.

"Hi, Oliver!" Miss Jenn smiles. "How's your break going?"

"Going good, I guess." Oliver shrugs. "Just been working on my music."

Nini grins. "Hey, same here!"

Oliver chuckles lightly and smiles. "That's cool." He raises his eyebrows upon seeing Carlos looked like he was at the beach. "Carlos, it seems like you're having fun."

"And Seb is having a cow about me not being in Salt Lake." Carlos scoffed while Seb rolled his eyes.

Oliver furrows his eyebrows with confusion. "Okay." He dragged out the word while slowly nodding his head. He guessed that Carlos and Seb were fighting.

"What's up?" Ashlyn and EJ questioned in a silly voice when they join the call a few seconds later. Everyone voiced their words of greetings.

Oliver grins. "That movie 'Scary Movie' is a great movie."

"Yes!" EJ said once he got to his spot that was set up in a different part of the living room he and Ashlyn are in. He grins. "I'm glad that someone else has watched that movie."

"Yeah, our parents all went to Park City together and left us to watch the house." Ashlyn explains. She smiles. "We've been streaming old movies."

EJ nods. "Like the movie Oliver just mentioned, we watched that last night." He grins. "Ah! What a classic."

"Yes, such a classic." Oliver nodded in agreement.

Seb tilts his head to the side, furrowing his eyebrows. "Never heard of it."

Miss Jenn furrows her eyebrows, looking offended. "Old?"

"You guys are watching, like, old, old movies." Nini voiced.

"Well, I wanted to tell you guys..."

"Sorry we're late." Kourtney apologizes just as she joined the call, interrupting Miss Jenn in the process. Oliver noticed that she was sitting at a booth at Slicers and he saw her wearing a Slicers shirt so he figured that she was working. "Emergency in the kitchen."

"What's up!" Big Red exclaimed in the same silly voice Ashlyn and EJ spoke in a few moments ago when he joined the call next. Oliver chuckled and EJ had given Big Red two thumbs up.

Ashlyn smiles at her boyfriend. "This is why we're soulmates."

"Yeah. Okay, folks. Let's focus." Miss Jenn claps twice, getting everyone's attention. "Now that we're all here." She furrows her eyebrows upon noticing someone is missing. "Wait. No, where..."

Oliver smiles a bit when Gina finally joins the call, but his face was tinted pink when he remembered the kiss with her a few nights ago. They haven't talked to each other about their kiss yet and had even acted as if nothing had happened even though that kiss meant a lot to the both of them. Oliver had wanted to talk to her about it many times and asked what they were now and if she wanted to be in a relationship, but he always chickened out on trying to talk to her about it after that night. So, he gave up and hoped someday in the near future the kiss would get brought up in conversation or that one of them would ask each other on a date.

"Hey, everyone." Gina waves and she sits down. "I'm here. Sorry, um, I couldn't find an outlet and my flight's delayed. Apparently, my plane has a mechanical issue, so," Gina fakes a smile and even did a thumbs up. "...Fun."

"Oh, dear!" Miss Jenn looks at her with concern along with everyone else. "Are you safe?"

"Yeah," Oliver chimes in. "Are you okay?" He had to admit he was worried about her. Being in an airport for hours must not be fun and she was there by herself which must be scary.

Gina smiles, and the fact that Oliver also asked if she was okay warmed her heart. Sure, she thought it was nice Miss Jenn checked in on her, but it was different with Oliver. "I spent my childhood in airports." She waves a dismissive hand, letting them know she was fine. "I am no damsel in distress."

"And if you were you could easily get yourself out of trouble." Oliver commented, sending her a smile.

Gina smiles softly at him, feeling butterflies swarm in her stomach. "Thank you, Oliver." Oliver nodded, blushing lightly as he smiled back at her.

"Okay. Looks like we're just missing Ricky." Miss Jenn notices. She looks at Nini curiously. "Nini, have you heard from him?"

Nini's eyes widen and Oliver saw that it looked like she was kind of uncomfortable to answer that so he answered for her. "Ricky is spending some time in Chicago for Spring Break." Oliver responded to Miss Jenn. He had texted Ricky the first day of Spring Break to check up on him to see how he was doing after the breakup and Ricky had told him he was doing fine and just needed a break from everything which is a reason why he's in Chicago with his mom. Ricky had also thought he needed some time with his mom.

On the night of the breakup Ricky had actually went to his house. Oliver's mom had let him in since Oliver was in his room, with his headphones on watching Tangled on his laptop. (yes, he likes Tangled. it's his favorite Disney princess movie and yes, he watches Disney princess movies because of the fact his sister often forced him to watch them with her and he grew to to like them). When he saw Ricky with red and puffy eyes, that's how Oliver knew that he had broken up with Nini.

Ricky didn't have to say anything for him to know. Oliver had took off his headphones, pausing the movie and immediately went over to him. Oliver pulled him in for a hug and Ricky didn't hesitate to break down in his arms. Oliver hated seeing one of his best friends cry, it broke his heart. After the hug Oliver had asked Ricky if he wanted to join him with watching a movie. They sat on his bed and watched Tangled (from the beginning of course. you can never watch that movie too many times).

"Okay." Miss Jenn nods. "I'm sure you're wondering why I've gathered you all here. Opening night is just three weeks away, folks."

Oliver exhales at hearing that, shaking his head. He couldn't believe how close it was until the opening night of 'Beauty and the Beast'. His first ever performance as a lead role. He was really nervous, but also really excited.

"That means we need to stay focused." Miss Jenn continues. "And I know I can't...Won't make you work over the break. But I needed to remind you, face-to-face," She claps with each word she speaks next. "Stakes are high."

"Please, for the love of theater, do not take the word 'break' literally. Be safe." Miss Jenn chuckles. "Okay, well, have fun. Stay in touch. And now you have this link, so hop on anytime. I'm basically the queen of modern technology, so..."

Everyone quickly said their goodbyes and got off the call so they wouldn't have to be the only one left with Miss Jenn.

After the Zoom call Oliver continued working on his new song that is until he heard rushed footsteps coming down the hallway to his room and heard his door slam shut. He turns around in his chair, raising his eyebrows to see his older brother leaning against his now closed door.

"Dahlia's bored and she wants to paint my nails." Noah explains, looking at Oliver with a pleading expression. "Save me."

Oliver chuckles. "Oh, you'll be fine. It's not the worst thing that could happen."

"Okay," Noah crosses his arms and smirks. "Then you get your nails painted with me." Oliver looked at him with a nervous expression, shaking his head.

"Noah!" They looks at the door when they hear Dahlia yell. "Get your butt out here and let me paint your nails or else I'm gonna steal your guitar and never give it back until you let me paint your nails!"

Noah gets off the wall, opening the door to reveal that Dahlia was standing and was holding his guitar. He narrows his eyes and reaches his hand out to his guitar. "Oliver is gonna let you paint his nails so hand over my guitar before you hurt it."

Oliver looks at him with wide eyes. "Wait, wait, wait. I didn't agree to that!"

Noah takes his guitar from Dahlia, looking at Oliver with amusement as he speaks in a mocking tone. "Oh, you'll be fine. It's not the worst thing that could happen."

Oliver rolls his eyes as Noah quickly left. Dahlia looks at Oliver with a grin. "So, what color you want your nails painted?"

"Before we get to any painting nails I need to phone a friend for a second opinion." Oliver pointed at her, picking up his phone off his desk.

"Yeah, whatever." Dahlia rolls her eyes. "You're still getting your nails painted though." Dahlia told him and went to her room to get out the nail polish.

Oliver sighs heavily, leaning his head back against the seat. He couldn't believe he's letting his little sister paint his nails. He got on the facetiming app, having one person in mind to facetime.

"Ollie, hi!" Gina greeted, sending him a smile.

Oliver smiles back at her. "Hey, G."

"What's up?" Gina asked, tilting her head to the side.

"Okay, so, my little sister wants to paint my nails. She was going to paint my brother's nails, but my brother volunteered me to do it." Oliver explains, shaking his head. "I wanted to get a second opinion if I should go with this."

Gina grins. "Oh. All the yes. Go for it."

"I heard a yes!" Dahlia exclaimed, walking into Oliver's bedroom with a bucket of nail polish.

Oliver sighs heavily. "I guess that's two votes against one."

"Three votes!" Noah yelled from his room earning chuckles from Oliver and Gina.

"Apparently I meant three votes." Oliver corrected himself, looking at Gina with a sheepish smile.

Gina chuckles lightly and then notices Dahlia behind Oliver. "Hi, Dahlia."

Dahlia smiles and went over to stand beside Oliver so she was more visible to Gina now. "Gina, hi! Oh, I got a question." She raises up the bucket of nail polish. "What color you think I should paint Oliver's nails?"

"Hmm." Gina hums, glancing at Oliver while she thinks of a color that would look good on him. Oliver could feel blush creep up his neck when he noticed she was staring at him and he glanced down shyly. "Definitely blue."

"Great choice!" Dahlia grinned and started looking through her nail polish colors.

"Okay, you guys enjoy your makeovers." Gina commented.

Oliver groans. "G, don't give her any ideas."

Gina chuckles, pointing at herself. "I'm gonna try to get to Louisiana. Wish me luck."

"If anyone needs luck it's me." Oliver said, shaking his head. He smiles at her. "You don't need luck. You're Gina Porter."

Gina smiles brightly. "Thank you, Ollie."

"You're welcome." Oliver glances at his sister when she said his name. "Ollie! I found the right shade of blue that will look good on you so get over here!"

Oliver chuckles along with Gina and looks back at Gina. "I better go before she steals my guitar."

Gina nods and waves at him. "Okay, bye."

Oliver had to admit getting his nails painted wasn't the worst thing ever. And he actually had fun with his sister, not that he would ever admit that out loud. His sister had painted his nails a dark blue color and after his nails were dry he had decided on going through his song again all the way through.

(here is the song oliver writes if you wanna listen to it. you should 'cause it's really good! start the video at 0:32 & end it at )

"You said you want to pull off all these sheets," Oliver begins to strum his acoustic guitar that sat on his lap while singing. "They're claustrophobic on your feet and these pillows they can't stay. But you won't let me leave. The world sees the parts I show, but you want to see the parts that no one knows."

"God knows that you love my nervous smile. I hope you got some time 'cause this could take awhile. 'Cause I never felt so wanted. Never good enough, but you went and changed my world the moment you showed up." If it wasn't obvious already he wrote this song about how shy and nervous he was before Gina moved to Salt Lake City.

Oliver was sure he might've even had some stage fright. His old self would've never made a YouTube channel, let alone post covers of songs or post videos of songs he writes so he whole world can see. But the drama club helped him realize the talent he has. And Gina was a big part of the reason why he's in the drama club. If it wasn't for Gina he would still be this shy, nervous boy who had stage fright and only two friends. Now he has around a million followers on YouTube, the drama club members are like a second family to him, he's the lead role of the play, and he got the courage to tell his dad he doesn't want to follow in his footsteps with being a pilot.

Oliver was about to sing the next lyric when he gets a notification on his laptop. He stops playing his song, glancing at his laptop that still had the Zoom app up and saw that someone was wanting to facetime him. He raises his eyebrows, surprised to see that someone was Nini. He reaches forward and pressed the answer button.

"Hi, Nini." He greets, waving at the brunette-haired girl. "What's up?"

"Hi, Oliver." Nini sent him a smile and from what Oliver could see, it looked like she was sitting on the floor in her room which made him furrow his eyebrows. "I just got done with a live and I still can't believe I have fans now, but I told them that I had a lot of new songs and-"

"Let me guess," Oliver interrupts her. He tilts his head to the side, smiling sympathetically at her. "You lied?"

Nini raises her notebook up that was open to show Oliver the blank pages. "I lied. I got nothing." Oliver chuckles and leans his arms on top of his guitar. Nini sighs, closing the notebook and sets it on the floor. "I've been having trouble coming up with stuff. How do you do it?"

Oliver shrugs. "I have no idea." He admits. "When I get an idea for a song, it could happen when I'm not even trying to write a song." He glances at the notebook in front of him, looking at the song he was singing moments ago. "Like the song I just got done today I wrote it about some experiences I went through in life."

Nini nods, a small smile tugging on her lips. "That's a good idea."

Oliver looks back at her with a smile. "Thanks. I also tend to just start writing down whatever I think is good. And if it's not then I throw that away and start again. The main thing that matters is that the song should come from your heart."

Nini's smiles widen. "Thanks, Ollie."

Oliver nods. "Yeah, no problem. Let me know if you ever need anymore help with songs."

"Okay, will do." Nini smiled, waving goodbye before she ended the call.

A/N the song 'wanted' that oliver writes is actually a song co-written by josh bogert & andrew allen & it really is such a good song. honestly im loving oliver's & nini's friendship. & gina & olvier are so so cute, i love them!
