Prologue - A New World
??? POV
I flew as fast as my wings could carry me. They beat so fast that it sounded like a humming noise.
But I can't stand it anymore. I can't stand this ridiculous island. Its not safe. Its not safe for my daughter.
Another egg was killed. It was a light yellow colored one. It was reported to the Queen's Guard. So they smashed it.
The look on the mother's eyes were unforgettable. She was filled with grief at the loss of her unborn child.
And they said it was 'worth it'.
I can't take this injustice. I won't let her grow up here. I need to keep her as safe as possible.
I flew to my hexagon shaped home near the top of the tree. I entered the hole and started packing my things. I needed to leave all of them.
After getting what I needed, I went to the thing most important to me: my egg. My egg was a normal Drone egg. It was white and leathery.
I gently held it in my hands. I proceeded to put her in my bag. But I realized there was not enough space.
I sighed. I took out all the other items to make room for my child. "One day, I hope you understand all the sacrifices I made to keep you safe." I told the egg.
I took the bag and put it around my neck. Soon, I flew out of my home for the last time and proceeded to leave Drone Island.
I tried avoid everyone. Thankfully no one else flies in the dead of night. I almost reached the beach when I heard someone call my name.
"Honeybee! Where are you going at this hour?" I look to see my friend, Purple. He was a light blue Drone with purple eyes and wings.
"Umm, just needed fresh air." I replied. "The killing of the egg was a bit traumatizing."
Purple sighed. "Yeah, but you know what they say. Its all worth it." Purple smiled.
I almost wanted to slash at him. But I held in my anger. As a former fashion star, I know how to control my rage.
"Yes, its all worth it." I nearly gagged. But I convinced Purple to leave. "Alright, you calm down ok? Its not good to be scared all the time." He said.
I nodded. Purple then waved goodbye and flew away. When he was out of sight, I immediately flew to the beach.
I reached it. No other Drone came my way. I look up at the sky. The moon was full and the stars twinkled in the night.
I felt calm. But I had no time to enjoy. I needed to leave. I look at the long ocean. It would be a tough journey.
But is there even a world there? Is it true that there are really evil black-skinned people with white eyes? What dangers are beyond the island?
I look back at my home. Lights shined in the distance from homes and lanterns. But I look away and stare into the ocean.
I sighed and look at my egg in the bag. "But I will do anything for you." I said as I gathered my confidence and started my journey across the sea.
I flew as fast as I can. I didn't look back. I planned to reach the land beyond before sun rise.
But it was stormy out at sea. I struggled to avoid lightning for the sake of my egg. I continued flying, my wings humming softly.
I started to lose hope. I started to doubt if there was even another world out there.
But my thoughts were interrupted when a lightning struck. It hit my body thankfully. But I suddenly lost strength. I fell into the water with a splash.
Is this it?
No.
I regained consiciousness. But I woke up not in water, but on sand? I jolt up. I look at where I was.
It wasn't Drone Island. At least, it didn't look like it. The sky was grey. But I think its early morning.
Was I right? Is there a world beyond our island? Are the legends real? Are people who stand on 2 legs real?
But I remembered something. I scampered on my 4 legs and tried to find my bag.
I found it near the waves. I sighed. I checked the egg. It was still warm. I carried the egg itself now because the bag was really broken.
I held the egg in my right arm as I flew to find a new home. Hopefully, there's a forest nearby.
And there is. But it looked different from the forests on Drone Island. This one looked dark and gloomy. Not to mention the mist at the ground.
But it seemed to be the only way. There were no other trees in the distance. So I flew to the dark woods.
I was very fast but careful. I had no idea of what might be here. Better to be safe than sorry...
"Grrrrrr."
I stop moving and hovered on one spot. I turn around and see an animal I've never seen before.
It had jet black fur and a long tail. Its glaring eyes were blood red. It had 3 spines on its head and it seemed to be in a ready-to-pounce position.
"Grrrrr." It growled again. I smiled nervously. I tried to make an escape. But the animal tried to jump at me.
Out of reflex, I slammed it with my tail. It fell off the branch and on the forest floor. I smile to myself and proceed to fly away.
But I heard more growls. I look around again and see more of those black animals. There were about 12 more of them.
I start to panic and fly away faster. The animals were chasing me. I flew higher in the air to try and find a hiding spot.
Then I spotted a hole in a tree. I made my way there. I landed inside with my egg. I peeked outside first.
The black animals seemed to have gotten lost in the mist. I sighed in relief. I examine the current hole I was in.
Its bark was grey and crooked. The tree itself had no fruits or flowers. But it was enough to be a house.
I carefully laid my egg in a corner. It started to glow. My blue eyes sparkled as I knew what was about to happen.
Soon, a small crack formed. A tiny head peeped out. It was red with cyan eyes. She looked beautiful.
I took my daughter in my hands. I nuzzled her while she looked at me with curiosity. I smiled. "My name is Honeybee. Im your mother." I told her.
"Welcome to the new world, Silkie."
