Chapter 16 - Rouse

Silkie POV

Rouse stood up, yawned, and stretched his arms and wings. I watched as he climbed out of bed and began glancing around the room.

"Good morning, Rouse!" I squealed. He then faced me. "...Who are you? I don't think I've heard that voice before." He said.

"This is Silkie." Serra smiled. "Atcutlet took her in. She's what Chaos call a Drone." I walked over to Rouse as he stood up.

"Is it true that you're blind?" I asked him since I was really curious about the fact that he could not see. "Isn't it obvious?" He replied as he faced me.

"Ehh, not really." I answered. "I mean, you're looking at me right now, as if you know where I am even without seeing me."

I heard a chuckle from Serra. "Rouse may be blind but he's still as strong and capable as any other Eclipsor." She told me.

"Yes, I may not be able to see, but I have trained to enhance my hearing so now I can hear better than most people." Rouse explained. "Wow! That's cool!" I gasped.

"I also memorized this whole mine system so I don't bump into walls!" He proudly added. Serra rolled her eyes.

"Yeah, and it only took you 2 weeks. She doesn't need to know the rest." Serra scoffed. "Like how you tripped and almost fell in-"

"We do not talk about that." Rouse interrupted. I giggled as the 2 went back and forth in saying what they remember about that incident.

"Oria told me she saw you feeling around the walls and you didn't see a piece of gold that was at your feet. So, you tripped and almost fell head first in the molten gold..."

"NO! THAT WASN'T WHAT HAPPENED! I was simply walking around then suddenly, the ground below me collapsed so I fell!"

"Riiiiight."

Rouse rolled his eyes. "Anyways, Silkie, why are you here?" He questioned. "Shouldn't you be with Atcutlet or something?"

"Yeah, but he hasn't really called for me and I actually wanted to hang out with you and Serra." I smiled.

"Speaking of hanging out, we should really get going to the dining hall. Its almost breakfast time." Serra said as she stood up. "You can come along if you want to, Silkie."

"Ok!" I replied as I followed Serra and Rouse out of the room. We walked through the dark tunnel before making our way through the hallway of cave openings.

Serra and Rouse led me down an unfamiliar path that I haven't investigated yet. It ended in a closed door that sounded noisy on the other end.

Serra noticed my curiousity and slight nervousness. "Claws didn't take you here yet?" She asked. I shook my head in response.

"Well, you're gonna see it now." Rouse told me. "Just... cover your ears if it gets too loud." With that, Rouse opened the door to the dining hall.

I stared at shock at the sight before me: miners were busy chatting and eating while the Eclipsors were flying around or hovering in one place.

"Silkie!" I heard a familiar voice call me. I turned to the side and saw Claws waving at me with Atcutlet standing beside him.

"Hi Claws! Good morning Atcutlet!" I greeted them both. "Mornin' to you too, Silkie. I hope you rested well." Atcutlet said.

I nodded. "Mhm! And I even got to meet Serra and Rouse." I looked at the 2 siblings, who were then joined by Claws.

"Do you need anything to eat?" Atcutlet asked. "I think I still have a few fresh flowers you can take."

I gasped. "Yes please!" I replied as Atcutlet gestured for me to follow him through the room. All the while, some miners and Eclipsors were staring at me.

"Here." Atcutlet handed me a few flowers that still smelled good. I grabbed them from him with my mouth and said a muffled, "thank you".

I then went back to the 3 siblings to stay with them for the rest of breakfast time. "Oh, by the way Silkie." I heard Atcutlet call to me.

I stopped and look at him. "Yes?" I answered, though my voice was still muffled from the flowers in my mouth.

"When you're done, come find me because we'll be taking a short walk outside the mines."

??? POV

I felt my claws touch the sand. I glance around the area that most of us were forbidden to go to:

The shores. The edges of our islands that lie beyond the safety of our trees.

I stare into the dark blue sea as its waves crashed gently onto the coastline. I let out a sigh as I stretch my wings and let the wind brush past me.

I close my eyes for a while, enjoying the silence the beach provided. I wonder why no one is ever allowed here.

Suddenly, I heard a thud, as if something fell on the sand close by. My eyes shot open as I went to check the source of the sound.

I scurried along the coast until I saw what could have possibly made the sound. To my surprise...

It was a Drone.

But it was a Drone I haven't ever seen in my whole life on the island. She was red while her horns, frill, and wing case were white.

Her bright green wings lay along her side as she groaned. I look towards the sea and realize that a storm just passed.

But through the dark clouds, I could make out silhouettes of big objects that were moving and coming our way.

I gasped and look back at the red Drone. I reached out my claw to touch her...

But then she turned out to be just mist. She soon blurred away until nothing was there, not even the traces of sand from her fall.

I look back at the sea. The storm clouds and the silhouettes were no longer there. It was just the clear blue sky.

"Its just another one again." I told myself as I touched my horns and antennae.

I glanced back at the tall trees in the middle of our island. "I better head back.

"But that vision though..."

I took one more look at the sea before flying back to the village. But the illusion never left my mind.

Who was that Drone? What were those big things? And where did they come from? What did all this mean?

But I tried to clear my head as I flew back into the woods.

"Something is coming."
