Aimee starts cursing right away.
Tendou blinks in surprise, while Hichimiya stands up from her seat and raises a fist.
"Why not? You better have a good reason because I will punch your ass if you hurt her again."
Semi raises both his hands while shaking his head at the sudden threat. He turns to see that I am looking at him in utter shock and shakes his head faster again. Before he can open his mouth to say something, Kanzaki utters something.
"Semi-san, why do you always hurt Eenie? I'm sure you probably don't intend to, but the stuff you say are always so harsh." She says in a quiet voice, while the entire table can only sit quietly; not just because of what Semi had said, but because of what Kanzaki had added. She barely ever talked to people, and she was the last person I would have expected to hear something like that from.
"Um-"
"I'm sorry Een, but like she said," Semi says, pointing at my friend, "I'm not trying to hurt you. And it's not that I wouldn't go on a date with you... It's more that I can't go."
"But why not?!" Hichimiya hisses, looking up to the way Semi had stood up and taken his half-eaten meal tray.
"I have somewhere else to be... I'm sorry, Een." He mumbles, and walks towards the wastebasket, dumping the contents in hand before he makes his exit.
"That little..."
"Um you guys, I'm sure Eita has his reasons, so... Yeah. It's fine."
"Do you," Aimee wants to know, pointing at my face, "Think you look like you're fine?"
"Well, whenever you plan something, of course, you'd feel terrible when it gets ruined. It's fine." I mumble. Hichimiya was beginning to protest, so I take my tray to leave the cafeteria as well.
On my way out, I find Mitsuki glancing my way with a confused expression on her face. She blinks at me a little and motions me to come to where she sat.
I don't have the heart to give her a smile as I shake my head and walk outside.

Tendou found out why Semi said he couldn't go with me.
"Eita-kun is at Tokyo." He says while we headed to Home Economics lab the next day. "He left right after dinner last night.'
"Tokyo?" My voice echoes. Tendou nods in response, while we enter the class. Sayaka-sensei gives me a smile, cheerful expression on her face while she waves at me.
"You're here to finish the cake you're making for Ei-kun?" She wants to know, a mischievous grin spreading on her face. Tendou laughs a little while I walk to her desk, a frown on my face.
"Sayaka-san, you can use the prep stuff. I don't have to make it anymore."
"Eh?" She asks, confused. I have to slowly explain to her that my soulmate wasn't in the city and how it would only go to waste if it sits in the freezer for longer. When I had asked her for help with making a cake for the occasion, she was ready to help me after the session, and I was thankful for the time she spent to teach me how to make a decent-tasting cake.
"Say, I'm going to Tokyo to meet my husband this evening. I could take you with me," She whispers, "If you share some of that cream cheese you made."
"Wait what are you-"
"Oooooooooooooo."
"Oooooooooooooo is right, Sato-kun." She winks at Tendou, turning to me. "I might have accidentally tasted some of it, and I would feel guilty if I take it without letting Ei-kun, get some."
"But-"
"Especially when you had him on your mind while making it."
"Saya-sensei!" I cry, and she grins while exchanging a high five with Tendou.
"You live there, don't you? You can have a weekend off, there, you know."
"But Sayaka-sensei," Tendou wants to know, "Why are you doing this? Won't it cost a lot of money?"
"Well you see...."

My hands are trembling as I sit on the train. It was a few minutes to 12, and I had my many-paragraphs long birthday greetings all typed and ready to be sent to Semi.
"My husband is a tsundere, too. So I know your struggle." Sayaka-sensei lets me know with a sigh. "But there's one thing Ei-kun and my husband have in common."
"What is it, Saya-sensei?"
"The look they give to the person they love."
I stare at her perfectly painted fingernails in embarrassment, a little dumbfounded by the fact that she could say something so embarrassing with a straight face.
"It's a minute to go now, hurry up." She reminds me, pointing at my phone screen.
A clock on the train chimes at sharp 12, and I hit send, feeling a little uneasy. The train comes to a halt, reaching the city and opening the gates. Sayaka-sensei and I step outside, agreeing to meet up on Sunday evening at the same spot. She wishes me good luck, and I thank her for everything before the two of us take separate buses to head to our own separate homes.
My house was a few stops away from the train station. The key to the front door is, as usual, on top of the mailbox, and I step in, putting my shoes away.
"I'm home..."
There is no response, and I walk into the living room, to see Takeru sprawled in front of the TV, a blanket covering half of him as he snored softly. After I take a picture of the sight, I turn the TV off and place the comforter in his room over him.
Our parents were probably out of the city; the empty cups of instant noodles is enough proof for this. Takeru was usually good at making nutritionally well-balanced meals for himself, but it seemed like he was slacking a little after the stride tournament.
Feeling too tired to do anything but sleep, I head upstairs after placing a note on the door, and I lie on my bed.
•••
"What the hell are you doing here?" Takeru greets me when I step outside the next afternoon.
I never missed the opportunity to sleep in during weekends, and being back home was no exception. Takeru is reading a sports magazine when he sees me in my pyjamas and shakes his head in disapproval.
"You're 18. You need to have a life."
"Shut up," I say, reaching for a bowl. Taking out the carton of orange juice, I pour myself a glass and take a seat on the couch beside him.
"See this," I say, showing him my pattern. Takeru looks at my wrist, blinking a little before his eyes widen slightly.
"Wait."
"I'm not going anywhere."
"Wait."
"I know."
"Did he ask you out? When did this happen?" He wants to know, putting his magazine down. The way he folds the corners of it makes me cringe and I shake my head.
"I wish."
"Oh," He sighs. "You look sad. What's wrong? Why are you here?"
We spend the next hour talking about school. There is one thing I can't tell him, and that was the fact that I still hadn't received a response from Semi, regarding my birthday wish for him.
And when it strikes 5 pm on the clock in the living room, I can't help but burst out crying.
It isn't fair.
