On the eve of my birthday, Semi taught me how to toss.

Well... toss wrongly, not right.

"Why can't you just throw the ball up the way I'm doing it?"

"Because," I say, squinting my eyes at him, "I haven't been playing volleyball since I was in fourth grade, like you were. I don't even remember when I played it last."

Semi had let me know that he wanted to wish me a happy birthday, in person, at the exact second it strikes 12 am. For this, he asked me if I would go out for dinner with him, which had somewhat changed into me watching him and help him practice, instead.

Not that I minded.

"30 more minutes. I'm sorry I'm making you stay up and be outside when you could be on bed, sleeping." He has to say, putting the ball away and sitting down beside me. He leans his back on the court net, and takes a sigh. I shake my head, turning to face him with a smile.

"It's fine. I didn't think you were the romantic type, so I'm shocked you want to do this." I say, laughing. Semi turns his gaze away, his lips pursed as he crosses his arms over his knees.

"Shut up. I told you I'm trying to keep you happy." He says in a low voice. "Do you want to go now?"

"Mm, let's go." I say, standing up. I offer him a hand, to which he glares until I burst out laughing.

"Stop trying to take the lead." He has to say, getting up. "I can do it fine."

He then throws the volleyball at the cart, wiping his hands behind his trousers before he stretches a little.

"Sleepy?"

"A little. But it's fine." He has to say. Semi helps me climb out of the court entrance, and the two of us walk to a diner that was nearby. There were only a couple people who were there, so we managed to get a table with ease.

We did, but we both fell asleep on the table before our food arrived.

"Fuck everything." Semi hisses, the next morning as he sets his tray beside mine.

"Not the best greeting for your girlfriend on her birthday, you tool." Aimee mumbles, throwing a slice of tomato at him. My soulmate raises a hand in defence, throwing it back on top of her sandwich.

For once, Aimee looks shocked for words, while Hichimiya and I laugh uncontrollably.

"Nice toss, Eita-kun!" Tendou has to comment, before getting elbowed by his girlfriend.

"This isn't fair. I stayed up to wish you but you guys wished her before me."

"Not our fault, Eita-kun. You had the chance." Tendou says, sliding a small box towards me. "From me and Hichi-chan."

"I'm telling you. We were both tired, okay? The waitress had to tap my shoulder for me to wake up. And Een is such a heavy-sleeper, I practically had to poke her a lot of times before she woke up." Semi goes on, while I open the present Tendou handed.

Hichimiya and Tendou had given me a box full of white chocolates, which they asked me to 'share' with Semi later on today. I knew exactly what they meant by that, and their tone as they said so was further proof.

"Eita-kun, are you gonna give her that?" I hear Tendou whisper to Semi, and I raise an eyebrow as Semi stands up with a jolt. He then walks around the table to where Tendou sat, grabbing his collar and dragging him outside while the latter continued laughing.

"What was that all about?" Hichimiya asks, eyeing the paper bag Aimee hands me.

"From me, Kanzaki, and Kaizawa. We hope it's nice enough that you'll wear this for today." Aimee says, while my other two friends are giving me warm smiles.

I thank them for the beautiful dress that had gotten for me, and let them know I would definitely wear it.

Semi does not show up with Tendou until after the bell rings. Leaving the two to hurry and finish their breakfast, my friends and I hurry back upstairs to morning assembly.

"I have to give props to Eita. I see that he has tried to make today as date-ish as possible." Hichimiya has to say, combing my hair. Aimee is watching the way my blonde friend pins a barrette to my hair before she moves away.

"Yeah. Asking you to meet up at a spot. How cliche."

"Come on, Aicchi, don't be like that." Kaizawa has to say, while Kanzaki pats the ends of my dress.

"You look nice. Now go." She has to say, and I give my friends a thankful smile, before stepping out.

Semi is waiting for me on a bench in the nearby park. When he sees me, he stands up, his face slightly pink when I run up to him.

Before I can tease him about his reaction, I almost trip over a cobblestone and fall flat on my face.

So I kept the teasing for some other time.

"Jeez, Een." He mumbles, taking hold of my hand. "Be careful."

"Mm. So, where are you taking me?" I want to know, to which he shrugs.

"We can go anywhere you want. Decide."

I find myself sweating a little at his response. I was supposed to decide what to do?

"Um well you know I'm fine with anything."

"In that case, let's just walk around. I'm not good at dates, but I think this is what we should do." I don't think he was intending for me to hear it, but he has something more to add. "At least, that's what Tendou and Hichimiya said so."

With a little smile on my face, Semi and I spend the rest of the day walking into several stores. Whenever I saw something I liked even the slightest bit, I would run to buy it, until he would hold my wrist and make sure I really, really wanted it.

Semi was a very good partner to take with you if you were a very heavy spender, like I was.

While I walked through a store which sold phone covers, he excuses himself, stepping outside. I examine the covers, debating over which anime I would choose as my cover theme for the month. Since Semi wasn't around to stop me, I came out of the shop with stuff I might even regret buying, after a few weeks.

But I didn't have time to think about that, because Semi is waiting outside, leaning against the wall and tapping his phone.

"Oh. It's getting a little late, how about we eat and head back home before the dinner time at school?"

"Eat?"

"I'm giving you a treat. Come on."

And that was how I found myself sitting inside a restaurant with Semi Eita.

"Since it's your birthday today," He speaks, after the waitress leaves with our orders, "I'll answer any one question you have for me."

I can almost hear Aimee and Hichimiya cheering in my head to make use of this opportunity to the maximum. I take my time to think about what to ask, and by the time our food arrives, I still hadn't decided on what to say.

"Een, I swear to god."

"Shut up. You're not honest with everything, so this is like a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity." I whine, furrowing my eyebrows while I ate some of my fries. Semi lets out a sigh, before he begins his meal as well.

It is during when I am taking a sip of my juice when a question that had been bothering me for a while pops into my head.

"What do you think was the reason why you fell in love with me, Eita?"

"I what."

"You know. The mark. It appeared on my hand, see," I say, pointing at my wrist. "Something must have happened before it happened, right? And you were mad when you realised that, so, what do you think happened for you to fall in love with me?"

Semi scratches his head a little, as he thought a little about my question.

"Well. I had a feeling I would love you eventually. I mean, I'm surprised that I did, but - hey, stop that!" He chuckles when I raise a fist to punch him, "But yeah. I think it was during our finals. When I saw you in the crowds. It really hit me, for some reason."

"Oh. That's kinda boring."

"Shut up. What about you?"

"I'll tell you that on your next birthday."

"Goddamit, Een."

By the time it struck 7pm, my hands were filled with a lot of shopping bags.

Semi had bought a few things he wanted as well, and he follows me upstairs to my dorm.

The room is surprisingly closed, and I assume that Hichimiya had left for dinner already, or was out with Tendou for the day. For whichever reason, Semi picks up the key in my coat pocket, opening the door slightly for me. Confused to why he didn't enter first, I open the door wider using my feet and step inside.

There sat a two-tier cake on my desk, and what's more important was that it was a chocolate cake with vanilla frosting- my absolute favourite. I couldn't help dropping the bags I had in hand at that, and squealing.

"Did you get this?!" I cry, and he nods.

"I'd been saving up for a month." He has to say, scratching the nape of his neck. I beckon him to come closer as I take my phone out, a little too excited, I had to admit. All while Semi watched me with an amused expression on his face, he hands me the smaller knife that was beside it, and watched the way I cut slices for the two of us.

"How did you get this cake here?" I ask, sitting on my bed with a slice. Semi sits at my desk chair, watching me enjoy the dessert he had gotten for me, a little smile never leaving his face.

"Well, I got Hichimiya to keep it here."

There smooth texture of the cake made me smile in response. It was rare to find a really delicious vanilla frosting on a cake, and I had to give a lot of points to Semi for picking this one out.

"I love you, Een."

"W-Wow. You never say I love you first." I mumble, earning a little grunt from him.

"Well... It's your birthday, after all."

He didn't leave out any holes in making this a special day for me. And that kept in check, the big smile on my face, as I ate another bite of the cake - all while I can feel his glance on me the entire time.

"Well, I guess your birthday turned out special, then?" He wants to know, handing me the bottle of water at the bedside table.

"Oh, definitely. Best. Birthday. Gift. Ever." I breathe out, trying to catch my breath when he leans away with a kiss. After I take a sip from the water bottle, he does the same, placing it back in its position before he lies down next to me again.

"I feel sleepy. And very tired. Aren't you tired after all that?"

"I am. And if you're tired, sleep."

"Here?" He wants to know, when I look up at his face. He has a grin on his face which contrasted the tone he used, and I give him a grin back.

"Yeah. Sleep here."

"Good. I didn't want to leave just yet."

Semi was going to get into a lot of trouble if the dorm-mistress found out that he had slept over at my room that night.

But he didn't seem to mind, his arms around me as he pulled me closer to him and ran his hand aimlessly through my hair.

It sincerely was the best birthday ever, I couldn't think of a single thing I would have wanted differently.

And the smile on his face as he fell asleep a while before I did, was proof that he thought the same.
