• Semi x Een •

---

The next day, I receive my very first letter since I first came to Shiratorizawa.

And it was addressed to me by none other than Semi's Mom.

What made it even more interesting was the fact that Kanzaki, who was in charge of distributing the mail every morning, gave me it during breakfast while Semi and I were sitting right next to each other.

"Give me that!" He hisses when I move my hands away right before he could snatch it from my grip.

"No. Please respect people's privacy."

"Sucker." Aimee is chuckling to herself, while Semi shoots an uneasy glare at her. Kanzaki gives him a I-Couldn't-Help-It look, while I tear open the letter.

"Oh, by the way, Kanzaki, how did your date go?" Hichimiya wants to know, scooping some of her soup into her mouth before she chokes at how hot it was.

"It was nice. Ryunosuke-kun is... a bit of a pervert, but he's fun. We had ramen and he taught me how to ride a bicycle." She says, flushing a little red at the mention. Aimee points an accusing finger at Semi, furrowing her eyebrows at him.

"Why don't you ever do something like that with Een? Why can't you take her out to do something special instead of just shitting around and going to the library? Even my idiot soulmate took me to a planetarium."

"That's because sh- Een give me that!" Semi yells when I take the letter out. I rest it on my lap, and his hands freeze right before he touches the piece of paper.

"You're not bold enough to take it now." I give him a grin when he retrieves his hand away from me and looks away.

"Dammit Een."

"Don't just change the subject, Semisemi." Aimee has to say, tapping the table with her fork.

"Quit that crap! This is why I don't want her to read that letter." He utters, and I look at the scribbles his mother had written.

"Oh."

"Een."

"OH."

"Een, no."

"Why do I like where this is going?" Hichimiya and Tendou stand up to look at the letter, and Semi shakes his head in frustration.

"Do you want me to go?" I ask, turning to face him.

Our friends exchange confused glances, all gazes now on Semi, as if waiting for an answer.

"Well, I just... Quit giving me those looks!" He hisses when he sees the smirks on Hichimiya and Tendou's faces.

"Where are you taking her, Eita-kun?" Tendou sings, and even Kanzaki seems a little interested, leaning a little closer as if to hear our conversation better.

"Where are you trying to take her? Is your Mom worried that you guys might- Ow." Aimee gets elbowed by Kanzaki right then, and I glance at Semi, flustered.

"Shut up. It's just... I have only one Uncle, and he's getting married this weekend." He explains. "And Mom wants me to attend the wedding with... With Een."

"Now that's what I'm talking about!" Aimee raises a hand, which Hichimiya bends a little to give a high-five to.

"Mom asked me first, and I... I can't believe she would send you a letter!" He looks at me with an agitated expression on his face. I fold the letter and put it back into the envelope before I glance at him again.

"It's fine. I really appreciate the sentiment, but please don't force yourself to take me just because your Mom asked." I say, setting the letter beside my tray.

"Een, what are you saying?!" Hichimiya cries.

"I'll decline her offer, it's fine, Eita." I say, giving him a smile.

I pick up my tray to head outside, and I can see Hichimiya and Kanzaki giving me sad looks. But before I can move a muscle, Semi takes hold of my wrist.

"Sit down. We're going to class together."

"But-"

"Sit."

With puffy cheeks, I sit down, not daring to glance at him even one bit. Our friends exchange nervous glances before they leave the table, and Semi waits before they all left, before he spoke to me again.

"I'll be clear on this, Een." He speaks silently, and I glance at him from the corner of my eyes. He still had his hand around my wrist, and he is tapping the corner of his tray with a finger.

"I've done a lot of things to confuse you about how I feel, so I don't need you having another misunderstanding again," Semi says, loosening his grip on my wrist. "It's not that I don't want to take you with me, it's more that it's embarrassing."

"O-Oh."

"Yeah. So. Stop thinking wrongly about me like that. That's kinda harsh." He says, a sad smile forming on his face. I shake my head, raising both my hands up to protest against.

"No no, I know you had a reason for it, but... I wouldn't know how you feel if you don't tell me, the way you did just now."

The bell rings loudly, making the two of us jolt up in unison. He turns to look at me with his shocked expression; and then, we burst out laughing.

"Come on. Let's go."

And from the way he takes my hand while we run outside, I knew I could believe him.

A month ago, he would have fully given up on the idea of ever holding my hand.

He took things slowly, and even though it became slightly frustrating every once in awhile... I had all the patience in the world when it came to Semi.

Because he was worth it all.

The library was closed today, and Semi and I stare at the closed sign in shock before facing each other.

"Well. So much for studying."

"I'm not really in a mood to study, anyway." He adds, sitting down on the floor.

"What are you doing?" I ask when he leans his back against the wall of the library. "Eita?!"

Semi puts his belongings on his lap, after which he pats the floor beside him. Hesitantly, I set down my bag and sit next to him. He is giving me a nod of approval before he lets out a sigh.

"People don't come here often."

"I see."

"You know," Semi has to say, " Despite having said that it's embarrassing, I kind of want to."

He didn't need to tell me what he meant, I could tell right away.

"It isn't fair, you force me to do things I don't want to do."

"That sounds very wrong, please stop talking." I look at him wide eyed. He responds with a chuckle.

"My Uncle Kenzou-san taught me how to ride a bike, last year." He has a fond smile on his face while he tells me about his memory. "Kenzou-san also made me get my driver's licence right when I turned 18."

"So you can ride, now? Legally?"

Semi gives me a nod. "There's a bike I own, back in Tokyo."

"Oooooooooooh."

A group of students enter the hallway, walking up to the library before they too, saw the sign. Snickering at us, they turn back to walk off.

At least, we thought they did.

One girl stays back, her hands raised up in excitement when she sees us.

"Ah! Semi-senpai!" Her gaze then turns to me and blinks a couple times. "Um, Een-senpai!"

"Hey, Mitsuki." Semi greets. The ravenette beams at us, crouching down a little to meet eye-level with us.

"What are you guys doing?!"

"We came to the library but it was closed," I say. Mitsuki lets out a sigh, standing up straight.

"I see you guys around a lot hehe." She laughs, clapping her hands together. "Een-senpai really tried hard, right?"

I blink at her in surprise, not knowing how to react to her words. I can feel Semi glancing at me, then back up to the girl.

"What do you mean?"

"Don't mind me!" She says, pointing a finger at Semi. "Semi-senpai, you dislocated your finger earlier today, you should rest it a bit."

She then runs off, while I turn to look at my soulmate with squinty eyes.

"You dislocated your finger."

He shrugs, holding up his index finger. When I look at it more carefully, I notice a slight swelling of it more than the rest of his fingers.

"So this is why you said you didn't want to study today?" I ask, wrapping my fingers softly around it. Semi closes an eye as he flinches back a little, and I let go of his finger.

"I'm sorry!"

"Nah, it's fine. This happens a lot when we play volleyball, so don't worry." He says, running a hand through his fringe.

"You know, you greet me the same way you greet Mitsuki." I blurt out, pursing my lips.

"Hey, Een." I add, in a deeper voice.

Semi bursts out laughing, his arm reaching out to wrap itself around my shoulder. "Is that supposed to be an impression of me?"

"What do you expect?"

"That was terrible. You suck at those."

"I suck at a lot of things." I point out. For some reason, Semi finds this response very funny, throwing his head back a little as he chuckled.

"I didn't think my girlfriend was so possessive." He has to say, his nails slightly sinking into the skin on my shoulder as he firmed his grip on me.

"Since when am I your girlfriend?"

"Since we c- Oh. Oh."

There is a few minutes of silence before he flinches a little.

"I never asked you out, did I?"He wants to know, almost spilling the books on his lap. I can't help smiling at his adorable reaction, and he shakes his head a little.

"Well. I'll do it soon." He mumbles, calming down a little when he notices my smile. "And stop smiling like that."

"Why?"

"It's... Just stop, Een. And stop being jealous of Mitsuki."

"I'm not jealous of her!" I cry, crossing my arms over my chest. "She just... She just keeps me on my toes, you know? Like I should be aware of what she does. That kinda thing."

"Well, for starters," He says, leaning a little closer to me. Hesitantly, I look away, feeling a little flustered at him getting too close to me.

I really needed to start getting used to it.

"You need to realise that even though I greet the two of you the same, you're Een. You're special to me. Do I really need to prove myself to you?"

I wouldn't mind that, I think to myself. I find myself smiling a little as I did so.

"What? What's funny?"

"Nothing, nothing!" I can't stop laughing at how baffled he looked before hs stands up with his books.

"Wait, where are you going?!" I ask, getting up on my feet.

"I'm going to ask you out one day." He calls before he jogs off to the boy's wing of the building.
And as I keep on watching the empty hallway, I hear a text notification and take out my smartphone.

Semi has a text waiting for me.

'I'm taking you to Tokyo this weekend. It's a promise.'
