• Semi x Een •

---

We had midterms the next week.

Semi and I had done a lot of interacting as of late, and I was starting to slowly get used to seeing him fresh after he finished practice, during dinner, and during Home Economics. People no longer asked either of us to pair up with them, and Semi believed that it was all Hichimiya and Tendou's fault.

But he didn't seem disappointed when he pats the seat beside him, after Aimee and I enter the class.

In fact, he had a smile on his face.

I could seriously get used to this.

In the middle of us preparing a batter for cake, Tendou asks if he could speak to me alone.

I glance over to Semi, who gives me a nod, and we walk towards the cabinet, where Tendou crouches to pick up a small tray.

"Een-chan. See this?" He asks, lifting his left wrist up. Tendou's mark was made of three lines in between two small squares.

"What is it, Miracle Boy?" I want to know when he points to one of the squares.

"This wasn't on my hand when I went to bed last night."

Realisation hits my head and I glance again at the pattern on the volleyball player's wrist. The outgoing Tendou Satori never looked so serious in his lifetime, and he looks at me, blinking and waiting for a response.

"This means your soulmate..."

"...Is in love with me." He completes my sentence, placing the picked trays on the countertop and standing up.

"I don't know who it is... And Hichi-chan's birthday is still in two weeks. I want her to be my soulmate, Een-chan."

I couldn't begin to describe how happy I was that Tendou liked my best friend. It felt like a dream come true, and they matched too much to not be together.

"Yeah. I don't think I want to wait for her to get her pattern... And then find out that it doesn't match mine. I want to date her even if she has another soulmate."

"Satori..."

It seemed like Tendou had a lot in common with Takeru, as well.

"I just wanted to tell you that, Een-chan. That I'll confess, the way you did to Eita-kun."

"How did you know I conf-"

"Laters!" He sings, his cheerful mood back on his face when he takes the trays and leaves. With a sigh, I take out a tray for myself and head back to my station.

"I didn't know you and Satori were that close," Semi mumbles when I reach where he stood.

"Yeah well... Wait, what are you doing?!"

"What is says on that book, duh."

And once again, I found myself getting yet another F in my assignment with Semi.

But it wasn't like that last time with the fritters.

This time, Semi didn't leave, until Sayaka-san forces us to get out of her class.

"You're quite stubborn, you know."

"You're quite stupid, you know." He responds. He flicks my forehead and then gives me a nod before he walks out to the other wing.

Tendou and Hichimiya had helped me and Semi in multiple ways, there was no way I would deny that. And I wanted them to be happy; I wanted them to be happy together. And I hoped Semi felt the same because I knew I couldn't help the two on my own.

"Shiiiiiiiratorizawa!"

The noises of the drums rang throughout the stadium, while the boys began their warm-ups.

I didn't feel as out of place as I would have, considering the fact that a lot of my classmates had decided to come along with me and Hichimiya.

Even Aimee, the introvert, seemed to be a little excited, and I had a feeling she was here to make fun of me, Hichimiya, and Kanzaki, who had found her soulmate from Karasuno a few days ago. Kanzaki's face was red the entire time, as she lets us know that her soulmate is a second-year.

The excitement in the air was contagious. A short boy with brown hair sets the ball, and Ushijima Wakatoshi from class 3, who I heard was the ace, slams the volleyball smack to the ground. Hichimiya elbows me while pointing to the brunette.

"Setter over there is Shirabu Kenjirou." She whispers. "You're gonna be biased because you like Semi, but the kid is pretty good at what he does."

"I am totally not biased. Why would I be?" I mumble, elbowing her away from me. "Besides. Even Eita-kun acknowledges Shirabu's talents."

"Aw you cuties." She cooes, before turning to the court again.

"Wah, there's Satori and Semi!" Hichimiya hypes, cupping her hands over her mouth. "Satori!!"

Tendou looks up to the court when his name gets called out, and Semi, who stood beside him, looks up at the ruckus as well. Semi's glance darts from Hichimiya to me - it was a good thing I had my glasses on because I wouldn't have noticed otherwise - and he nods his head a little. I give him my best smile before he jogs up to pick a ball from the cart to warm-up.

It came as a shock to everyone in the court, when Karasuno won the match. No one had expected them to, not when Shiratorizawa had been winning it successfully for the past three years.

But from a neutral point of view, Karasuno deserved the win.

From what I had learned, Semi was the kind of person who would admit defeat, and then keep that beside him as he used it to improve. But I didn't need it to be said out loud for me to know that Semi would be very disappointed with the way things turned out.

As I lay on my bed that night, I couldn't get the expression on his face when he looked up to the stands, at where I stood. He looked frustrated, ashamed, devasted... All the feelings jumbled into one, and my heart felt heavy just at the flashback.

Shiratorizawa's coach had brought the team back, where they were made to do a hundred serves each. Aimee stated how unfair that was, but I had a feeling the members wouldn't have minded even if the penalty was beyond 300.

I hadn't seen Semi since he climbed onto the van, and I from what Hichimiya had informed me, the Coach had, after the penalty, taken the boys to a restaurant where they had a hearty dinner and swore to try their best for the next time.

I was sure Semi wouldn't like it if I texted him about the match, not when he had told me that he didn't want my pity. But I left a text on his messenger, just in case, and I sincerely hoped how I felt reached him.

'Just because you lost, doesn't make you weak.'

It wasn't the best wordings, but I hoped he would be fine.

The next morning was normal.

I hadn't seen Semi after the match, until breakfast the next morning. Semi entered the cafeteria with Reon, his friend from class 4.

What wasn't normal, was that Semi did not walk to the counter to get himself a tray, like usual.

Instead, he scans the place, before his eyes land on me.

"What is SemiSemi doing?" Tendou whispers to Hichimiya, and I feel my heart racing when he storms up to my table.

He looked furious.

"Semi?!" Hichimiya cries when Semi grabs hold of my wrist. I gulp when I feel his strong grip, and he pulls me up to a standing position.

Did my text feel like I was pitying him?

I didn't know how many people were watching us, but at that moment, I could only focus on his angered face as his eyebrows furrowed, even more, when I let out a yelp.

For a second, I was terrified of my soulmate.

And when he lowers his gaze, to my wrist, I finally understood what had made him so mad.

He wasn't angry at what I texted him.

He was angry because there was a small circle underneath the crosses on my left wrist.
