Fujiwara Takeru collapsed to the ground ten seconds after his he finished his relation with Yagami Riku.
I wasn't sure if it was because I was so proud, or the fact that Semi was standing right beside me. It could have been both, and I was a sobbing mess when the three of us watched Riku cross the finish line in first place.
"Geez, Fujiwara, you cry too much." Semi has to say, handing me a tissue from his shirt pocket.
"I don't," I respond, the embarrassment of my soulmate having to see me get rid of my snot making me want to bury a hole and kill myself.
Semi seemed to take the hint. He looks away, down to where my brother sat, on his knees.
"Fujiwara-kun, that was a nice run."
Takeru glances to where we were standing, slightly dumbfounded by the fact that I was there. Even if he was a floor below me, I didn't need my glasses to make out the fact that he raised an eyebrow, confused by how things turned out.
"Takeru, that was amazing!" I cry, eventually gaining back my composure.
A big grin spreads on his face as he stood up, and said, "I told you I'd win."
How does he not even get tired? I wonder, when he dashes off again.
"He's probably going to meet his teammates," Semi speaks. I look up to him for the first time after the match, and he has a little smile on his face as he went on. "I know that feeling. When you win and your classmates are there cheering you on."
"Yeah."
"I miss that feeling..."
There was a slight painfulness in his voice as he said the words while he stood, his hands crossed over his chest.
I wasn't sure if he had something more to say, as we silently climbed down and went out of the building. Workers had begun taking down the setup, and we took a different route in order to not bother them.
"Isn't it because you miss that feeling, that you can work so hard, now?" I ask, glancing to the blond next to me. I didn't expect his brown eyes to slightly widen before he glances at me, a baffled expression plastered on his face that made me giggle.
"There isn't a single person who doesn't acknowledge how much you try," I add. "In fact, you've gained more people who admire you."
His chest was moving up and down a little faster than it had earlier. I wondered if I had made him flustered, when he turns away.
"I.. guess so."
We could hear the noise of the announcer calling out the winners of the EOS, and I couldn't take off the smile on my face when I heard my brother's name being called out.
I doubted that I would have been this happy if I stayed where I had been standing initially and had only seen the first few seconds of Takeru's dash.
I was so glad I came today.
"How did you get the permission for us to go to that building?" I want to know, as we reach the crowd that had been starting to thin out. The award ceremony was over, and the excitement died down, most of the spectators had left by the time we reached to the start.
"Yagami Tomoe and I used to attend the same middle school. I found out from him that he was back and he told me that he was running against his brother." Semi informs. "This building is where I come to... Uh. Color my hair."
I have to put a hand over my mouth to hide the little smirk that was starting to form on my face.
"So the people here know me."
"Een, there you are." A deep voice's call from the left makes us turn around to where Takeru stood, with his friends.
"Ah, is that your sister, Takeru?" A boy with blue eyes wants to know, excitement visible on his face.
"Yes, Kohinata-senpai." He responds. Another blonde whose hair was tied to the back in a ponytail steps in front of me, his red eyes sparkling - That was the boy who was the anchor of the match, Yagami Riku.
"Fujiwara, you never told me that you had a sister!"
"I have a sister," Takeru says, making the rest of the team facepalm. His glance then sets on Semi, before he speaks again, raising a finger at my soulmate. "Eita Semi. Third-year pinch server of Shiratorizawa. Substitute setter after Kenjirou Shirabu joine-"
"Takeru, that's enough," I say, grabbing his arm to hush him. Semi blinked a few times, a mixture of confusion and surprise on his face as he furrowed his eyebrows at the mention.
"Nice to meet you, Fujiwara." He says, grabbing hold of the finger Takeru had held out. I wanted to go jump off a cliff at the tension that was increasing by the second, and the blonde boy behind us seemed to catch my grip.
"Fujiwara! Stop being mean to your senpais!" Riku cries. A taller brunette pulls Riku away and glances at me.
"We're all heading down for dinner now, would you like to join us?"
I had a feeling that if Takeru stuck around much longer with Semi, things could go a little out of hand. I politely decline the offer and make a promise to talk to Takeru later while waving them goodbye.
"I'm sorry about what my brother said. He's always like that."
Semi neatens the collar of his shirt while giving me a nod. "Don't worry. It'll take some time to get used to different people."
It was amazing how depressed I had been about how things were turning out, and yet, when I was in his presence, I couldn't even think about what he had said, not even once.
"Um, as a thank you for taking me to see Takeru's match, can I treat you to some coffee?" I ask.
"Oh, I'm afraid I can't."
Semi must have seen my expression turning sour, because he had a panicked expression on his face.
"Please don't misunderstand me... again," he says, glancing at his smartphone's home screen. "I actually have someplace I have to be at. I'm already late because I came back here with you, so this is the furthest I can go."
"Ah, I understand. Don't worry." I say, waving a hand in the air to show it was fine. I didn't want to be the kind of clingy person who would bother him; he didn't seem fond of that kind of behaviour.
"We can postpone the coffee for some other day." He adds. "I'll see you around, Fujiwara."
And with that, Semi dashes off, and I wasn't sure if he was the faster runner or Takeru.
But when I reached home and checked my text notifications, I had a message waiting for me that made me slightly catch my breath.
'I might need to start calling you Een now, since your brother is also called Fujiwara.'
He believed that trying hard at practice paid off... But why couldn't he believe in soulmates?
