Chapter 8 - The Announcement
I'm sorry this is kind of a fill-up chapter, but it had to be written. I just didn't think it needed a big chapter.
Jim tapped his fingers on the grey handset, which he was holding against his ear. He cleared his throat for the third time and waited for Roger to answer. He glanced at his watch and grumbled, hearing the voice of the answering machine. Jim gave up and dialled John's number instead.
It had been only two hours or so since the manager announced to Angus Parry that he was fired. It had not been the happiest moment of the day, since Angus threw a fit and threatened everyone who was around. Completely shocked by the news, he had grabbed the sharp scissors in his pencil box and had pointed them at those he now considered traitors. Fortunately, Jim had been quick enough to call two security guards, who threw him out of the building, along with his belongings.
Now, it was time for Brian May, John Deacon, and Roger Taylor to know about Kyra taking Angus's place at the editorial board of the official magazine of the label. He stared at the ceiling, knowing that she was upstairs, visiting the building with two of her new colleagues, who had been more than glad to see Angus leave.
A small click sounded on the line, and Jim sat up on his chair. A familiar voice spoke. "Hello? John Deacon here."
"Hi, Birdman! It's Jim. How's it going?"
"Oh, hi, Jim," John laughed. "Oh, as usual. It's just one of those boring days again, with nothing interesting happening."
"So I assume you have nothing planned for the next few hours?"
"Mmh, I don't know. Why?"
"Urgent meeting at our headquarters in an hour. I've tried to contact Roger, but he seems to be away."
"Oh, yes, he's coming over. He'll be there in a few minutes. But, hey, Jim, is everything alright? Why is there an urgent meeting?"
"It's better if I tell you when you come. I wouldn't know how to tell you that on the phone, you see," Jim lied, trying not to smirk.
"Alright. I'll tell Rog then. See you later."
"See ya, Deaky."
Jim hung up and chuckled, before picking up the phone again. He flipped the pages of his agenda and found Brian's number. He dialled it and waited. Oh, how impatient he was to announce them...

Kyra slowly sat on her new chair in her new office, with a cup of tea between her hands. Everything was so different from her office at Musireviews. The atmosphere was more strict where she was now, but she knew she was surrounded by people who knew what they were doing, and who had experience behind them.
She had no doubt she was going to love her new job.
She leant her elbows on the desk and silently sipped her tea. She could already picture herself typing articles and reports on the computer next to her, she would write things down on a new notepad, listen to her recordings endlessly if she had to interview anyone or even went to a press conference.
A broad smile lit up her face. Although she still felt a bit guilty about leaving Musireviews, despite Cedric's support, she could not wait to begin her new life. She knew that was a turning point and she was right not to avoid it. She had been a baby journalist until now, and she had just turned into a grown-up one. It was a bit frightening nonetheless, however adrenaline and excitement were stronger than fear.

The door of Jim's office creaked open after someone knocked, and everyone in the room looked up to see who it was. A curly mane appear, as well as a long nose, under which a pair of lips was smiling.
"Hi there! I hope I'm not too late."
"Not at all, Bri," Jim chuckled, "come in, have a seat."
Brian stepped in and closed the door behind him. His two bandmates who had arrived a few minutes earlier greeted him, and the three of them faced their manager, eager to know more about that urgent meeting.
Jim picked up his phone and pushed a button on it, meaning he was calling one of the offices in the building. The telephone beeped twice, before someone answered.
"Kyra Duke's office."
"Hello, you! It's Jim. How everything's going?"
"Oh hi, Jim. Everything's going well for now. Two of my colleagues showed me around, they were really warm and welcoming."
The manager smiled. "I'm glad that you feel that way. Now, we have an urgent meeting at my office, with Mr May, Mr Taylor, and Mr Deacon. Do you have some spare time to attend this meeting?"
"Of course. I'll be there in a minute."
Jim hung up and smiled at his friends. He absent-mindedly grabbed a pencil and drummed on the desk with it, breaking the heavy silence that had settled in the room. The three musicians were sharing quizzical looks, not having a clue about what was going on. John crossed his legs and his arms, and stared at Jim, waiting for him to blurt out some answers.
However, after a few extra seconds of complete silence, a soft knock on the door made everyone turn to the door again. Jim stood up and smiled. "Come in!"
Kyra pushed the door and smiled at the three musicians, whose jaws dropped to the floor. Brian almost immediately jumped on his feet and went up to her, a shy but sincere grin appearing on his face.
"Hello, Ms Duke. I didn't expect to see you again this soon. I'm pleased. Have you managed to write the article?"
"Hello, Mr May. I'm happy to see you again," she replied warmly. "Yes, I have. It wasn't easy to write at all, but I made it!"
The two shared a laugh, and Kyra stepped forward to shake Roger and John's hands, exchanging a few words with them too. Now she was there, the atmosphere immediately felt more relaxed, although they still had not been given any answers.
Jim sat back on his chair and gestured for Kyra to come closer. She went to stand beside him, and he turned to her.
"Ms Duke, you know what the urgent meeting is all about."
"I do," she nodded, taking a deep breath and turning to the three music legends again. "I don't know if you're going to be happy, but you'll have to put up with me again for a while. Angus Parry's article has not been selected, and therefore, he lost his job. His other rival being me, I'm here to replace him.
Gasps of joy filled the room, and they all applauded her. Roger whistled and removed his sunglasses, hanging them at his collar.
"I knew you would make it! No more Mr Creosote to write shitty articles about everyone!"
"Mr Creosote?" John repeated, his eyebrows knitted together.
"Come on, Deaky, don't tell me you have never watched The Meaning of Life!"
John shrugged and Roger rolled his eyes. Brian ignored the two and stood by the desk, reaching out his hand.
"Welcome to the team, Ms Duke."
Kyra blushed and shook his hand, staring into his hazel eyes. Her voice got stuck in her throat as she tried to speak to express how amazingly proud she felt about herself. She shrugged and looked down, chuckling as Brian would not let go of her hand.
"Mr May, there's something we might need to change."
"Oh? What do you mean?"
"Don't call me Ms Duke. I give you the right to call me Kyra at any time. Same goes for Mr Taylor and Mr Deacon."
Brian laughed and eventually freed her hand from his grip. He scratched the back of his head and smiled at his friends when she mentioned them.
"What an honour to be given the right to call you by your first name. What did we do to deserve it?"
"First, you've all been very kind to me. Second, it might be easier for us to communicate and work together for the next months if you call me by my first name."
"That great. Wait, what did you say? The next months?"
Jim laughed and patted Kyra's shoulder.
"This amazing lady is going to follow you on your promotion tour for Back to the Light, and she's going to write a report."
"What a burden, really," Kyra added ironically, making them chuckle.
"I'm glad to work with you again, Ms Du– Kyra. I'm sorry, I'll have to get used to calling you that way. It'll probably take some time."
Kyra smiled but did not reply. She could not wait to go on this tour. She would be travelling, and she would be working on the kind of project that she had always craved to write. Everything was going so well in her life, she felt like it was finally heading somewhere.
Jim coughed a bit loudly, and turned to the others.
"I think we should celebrate the arrival of our new partner."
They all nodded, and soon enough, they found themselves outside, heading for the nearest pub where they could have a drink, and raise their glass to their victory. It was not only Kyra's victory. Oh, they were so glad they had finally managed to get Angus Parry fired.
