Uncertain confrontation.
"Augh!!" Sule gagged and leaned over to the corner of the room, magic poured from her mouth and fell to the floor.
"W-why the fuck did I d-do that?" She groaned and got down on her knees.
"You bearly lasted half a minute, the pet just left Sule." A monster laughed from behind her. She glared at them but quickly turned her head back, more magic started to pour from her mouth. Everything felt dizzy and she had really bad nausea.
The monster laughed some more before she heard a growl from behind her, "Get back to work."
She heard the door opened immediately and the monster left, leaving Sule and August alone.
"I thought after all that time in royal guard you would've toughened up? It's not like it matters that much anyway, that bunny was nothing more than another murder." August sighed, Sule ignored him and tried to get up. She used the walls to balance herself before looking back at August.
"After all this time apart I thought you would've grown some balls to do it yourself, and what the hell do you mean another murder?" Sule snapped and wiped some of the magic off her mouth, August gave her an amused look and laughed. Sule shook her head and started to leave.
"Those girls he was talking about, his kids and wife...he killed them a long time ago." August explained, Sule looked at him then back to the door without saying anything.
"I'm going to go change, I'm covered in dust." She groaned and opened the door, as she went out August followed.
"Don't you have other fucked up shit to do?" Sule growled irritatedly, August simple shook his head and crossed his arms.
"What? Do I have no business going up the stairs?" August raised an eyebrow at Sule, she simply sighed and made no other comment as they went up.
As soon as they got back into the hallway the sounds from the basement stopped, and silence surrounded them.
Sule and August went separate ways to their rooms, Sule slammed the door shut to hers and looked at her backpack.
Everything was still in there, her bed hadn't been touched or even made. The walls of her room were dark brown and so was the rest of the furniture.
She sighed and went over to the bathroom in the darkness, she looked down at her hands and realized they were still covered in dust. She gasped and wiped them off on her pants, feeling sick again.
She leaned over to the sink as more magic poured from her mouth and into the sink, she took a deep breath and wiped her mouth.
She rubbed her skull and sighed looking into the mirror.
"......." her reflection stares back at her, silent as always, "god............just...calm down. It's almost over..."
Sule groaned and put her head down, she slightly gripped the sides of her skull and looked back at the mirror in disgust. She glared at it before walking away back to her room and to her backpack. She grabbed onto her sweater and took it off, throwing it at the side and revealing her tattoos on her bones.
She pulled out some clothes and tossed the ones she was wearing aside. As she changed into a sleeveless turtle neck, the neck part was black while the rest of it was a violet, and white pants and black boots.
She looked over to the floor where her sweater laid, she grabbed it and dusted it off before tying it around her waist and looking back out the door.
She sighed and grabbed the knob, but didn't turn it. She stayed at the door for a moment before turning the knob slowly, and walking out the door.
°•○●°•○●°•○●°•○●
August's room was quite bigger than Sule's, as he walked in he was greeted with the familiar sent of books and chemicals.
It didn't bother him, he was far more than used to it. He strided over to a small book shelf he had in the room and pulled out a huge fake book and set it on the desk he had.
He looked at it debating whether he should open it or not.
Moments later he did, he turned it to the side and put in a four digit password on a lock. The book popped open in a second.
The inside was made of metal and few objects were inside it. A notebook, a few pens, some G and a necklace. August looked at the necklace and pulled it out to examine it.
It was a grey necklace in the shape of a circle, in the middle was a yellow circle, surrounded by five other smaller green circles.
He sighed and fiddled with it, taking a few small glances to his door. He frowned, feeling guilt in his soul. He turned back to the necklace and gripped it tightly.
Make things right?
•Do •Do not
He sighed and in an instant the necklace dissappeared with a puff of grey smoke.
"Ow!" He hissed and looked down at his soul, a small piece of the black part was slowly chipping away till the small part of it completely dissolved off his soul.
"What in the name of hell are you doing?" August whispered to himself and put a hand over his soul. The pain subsided quickly and not another piece of the black part chipped away.
Another wave of pain hit him, but this time it was around his eyes, neck, arms and hands. He hunched his back and put a hand to his mouth, feeling a lump in his throat form.
He coughed, his neck flickered green along with his arms and eye. His face felt like complete fire and when he pulled his hands away from his mouth green dusted his hands.
He looked at his hands before shutting his eyes tightly, the green that surrounded him flickered once more before it completely dissappeared.
He huffed and wiped away any other green dust that was on him.
I'm running out of time....
He took a deep breath and exhaled, the room was beginning to feel stuffy and hot. He turned to the door and left his room, he walked over to the kitchen and bumped into a small bear monster.
"Hello August." The bear greeted, they had an unlit cigarette reseting on the tip of their lips. They had a calm expression and looked up to August.
August raised an eyebrow before looking down and seeing the bear, "Hello...By the way, did you take the healing items I gave you?"
The bear nodded and pulled out a dull green bag and shook it, the sound was like marbles hitting against each other.
"Ye, it slowed down the process but my HP is still going down, slowly tho. I don't know how much longer I have even if I keep taking em"
The bear shrugged and put back the bag in his pocket, August put a finger on his chin and thought for a second.
"Have you been checking your soul?" He asked, the bear nodded and gave a dumbs up, "Keep an eye on it, and take as many of the those as you need. I'll have to remind myself to make more later."
The bear nodded and peered to the side if Auguts into the kitchen, "Oh, I haven't seen her in a while." The bear smiled and walked over to the kitchen.
"Heya Sule," The bear smiled and waved slowly, Sule stood near the table and nearly choked on her drink.
She looked over at the bear in surprise but smiled, "Lin? Holy shit it's been decades since I've seen you."
"Ye," The bear smiled and gave her a side hug, careful not to touch her back, keeping a hand in his pocket he leaned to the side and looked up to her, "You've gotten taller."
"Still short," August mumbled, Sule looked over to him but didn't hear what he said. The bear soon looked over to her arms, they poked her arms and raised an eyebrow.
"When did you get tattoos?" They asked, Sule looked at her arm and gave a small 'oh'.
She shrugged and smiled at them,"I think it was near the end of the first year I got them. When I was working with the scouts." The bear nodded and sat down at the table and rested their head down. August glanced at them and crossed his arms.
"Lin."
"Hhm?"
"The items," August sighed and rubbed his head, The bear perked up and grabbed the dull green bag from their pocket and opened it up.
They took out was seemed to be a small green marble and placed it in their mouth.
"What's that?" Sule asked them, they didn't respond and took a few more before stopping.
"Things that I've made," August answered, Sule ignored him causing August to give an annoyed sigh. The bear looked at sule with the same calm experience they had.
"Things to stop the inevitable," The bear shrugged without care, Sule's eyes widen and looked to August with a slight glare.
"What do they mean?"
"I'm going to die," The bear shrugged again, August sighed and basically slapped his forehead. Sule's eyes turned soft with concern and looked at Lin.
"You're not going to die, Lin." August said through his hand, he had a 'really' expression and looked at them, "There's still time to figure it out."
"If it's about their soul we definitely don't have the resources for that," Sule said in a serious tone, she looked at the bag on the table but it didn't seem to help her thoughts, "And if I take them to New home we'll definitely be found out. No telling what they'll do to us."
"Maybe experiment on us," Lin said and laid their head down, Sule groaned and frowned.
"I mean, wouldn't that be better? Instead of just killing off us one by one?"
"Neither of those options are great," August looked at them and shrugged, "We've been quiet for years, we're definitely not going to have us found out now. Or let them know where the rest of us are."
"Being a half breed sucks," Lin mumbled, Sule sighed and shrugged making her way to the table and taking a seat.
"No one said being a monster and vampire was going to be fun," Sule cringed and sat at the end of her seat, August sat on the other sigh and put his elbows on the table.
"We're lucky enough that we're alive if you ask me, "tainting the blood" my ass, Stupid king."
"Well that "Stupid king" is long gone, I don't see why keep a grudge at it," August yawned and waved, Sule looked at him with a glare.
"He held me over the edge of a cliff as a baby. And dropped me." Sule laughed sarcastically, a bit of anger was in her tone.
"You gotta admit," Lin pouted and lifted their head from the table, "That is pretty stupid."
"Hhm," August mumbled, and closed his eye, "Not as stupid as burning my mom's house down."
The room went quiet, Sule and Lin looked over at each other and at August who hadn't opened his eye. Sule whispered and grabbed her arm looking down.
"Don't give me that look," August said through his closed eyes, Sule only rolled her eyes in response.
"You always gave me that look when ever we were kids."
"How am I not supposed to?" Sule shrugged and looked away, "your sisters were in that house with your mom......"
August took a deep breath and released it, opening his eyes. Lin stared at the both of them in amusement. August leaned back in his chair and looked at the clock on the wall.
"....Sule."
"What?" She raised an eyebrow, puzzled, and stared at August. He only looked back at Lin who nudged his head in Sule's direction with a small smile. August sighed and crossed his arms again causing sule to give him a look of confusion.
He took a deep breath, "I'm sorry."
Sule only looked at him in a more confused expression and looked at Lin who only shrugged with a slight smile, "What?"
"Sorry.....as in sorry for everything," August said and lifted his hand up, a puff of smoke swirled around it till the necklace he had earlier appeared in his hand, ".....to this far back as well."
Sule looked at the necklace in shock but slowly grabbed it from him and looked at it. Very slowly, she set the necklace down on the table and stood up from her chair. She walked around the table until she was at August's side, she lifted her arm and punched him on the shoulder.
"Ow! What the hell!?" August gasped and nearly fell over, he used the table to balance himself and looked over to sule in confused shock.
"What was that fo-"
"Are you back!?" Sule yelled, August slightly flinched and looked at her.
"Well!? Are you!?"
"Hhm," The bear hummed and tossed the necklace to Sule, "I'm sure it's safe to assume August is back."
August looked at the ground guiltily and frowned, he expected nothing more than yelling and probably hitting.
But instead he got a hug.
"Goddammit August," Sule said hugging him tightly, August stayed quiet and kept his hands down.
"I was beginning to wonder when you were going to quit all your bullshitting."
"I'm sorry," He said once again quietly, Sule let go and looked at him with a small smile.
"It's fine, really it is." She laughed, Lin walked up to them and stood next to sule with a small smile, "You're back."
"I was beginning to worry as well," Lin frowned and looked around, he whispered quietly, "You haven't been yourself in a long time."
Sule looked at them both and motioned to the door leading outside, "Let's talk out there, no one else can here us then."
They both nodded and walked with her, August trailed behind with his eyes still at the floor.
"Is it still raining?" Sule asked, Lin shrugged and opened the door and looked outside. They shook their head and sule gave a small smile walking outside and closing the door.
"Alright," Sule said in a serious voice, the smile on her face dissappeared and she looked at them both with a slight glare.
"Tell me everything, are they still keeping their threat?"
Both August and Lin looked at each other and gave a small nervous shrugged.
"I'm not sure," August answered quietly, Lin looked at her unsure as well, "There's not enough of us around anymore, even with the help of those doctors you sent."
Sule raised an eyebrow and crossed her arms, "What do you mean?"
"Not many of us are making it pass sixteen," Lin said and looked down, Sule gave him a scared look, "Not to mention that vampires and monsters are basically separated from each other. So no other half breeds are being born, plus They've been a bit more angry lately. I know they're definitely not going to keep their threat right now, but if you guys don't complete this, I'm afraid they will."
"This is confusing," Sule sighed and placed a hand to her forehead, "But we have no choice, and we have no information. Did they even update us at all?"
August shook his head and looked back into the forest for a second and turned his head back, "The last letter I received was four months ago and all it said was to keep up with the plan."
Lin looked up to August, "That's all? Man, they must really want to go through with this."
Everything went quiet for a few moments, no body dared to say anything till Lin threw their unlit cigarette on the ground. They shoved their hands into their pocket and shrugged.
"Do you guys need to do, I'll support the decision no matter what. So, what are you going to do?"
Both of them paused and looked at each other and back at Lin, Sule rubbed the back of her neck and looked to the side.
"......you're asking a question I don't know the answer too, we're already in this far, not much longer till it's over."
"That didn't really answer the question," August sighed, Sule looked at him and gave him a glare but it faltered.
"You didn't answer either so you can't say shit," Sule snapped, August only shrugged and looked at the ground, "Plus this was the plan you made, they just approved for you to do it."
Sule grumbled and looked back at the both of them, they Lin kept their gaze elsewhere and August's eyes stayed glued to the ground, "look...I'm sorry okay? It's been years but I've been needing to ask you something every since I saw you again."
August looked up and un crossed his arms, "What is it?"
"What happened after I left?" Sule asked with a concerned look, she looked at Lin and back at August, "what happened to you- I mean look August, what happened to your hands? Your eyes? And what the hell is that around your soul?"
August quickly put a hand over his soul and looked away, "It's nothing for you to be concerned over..okay?"
"There you go again!" Sule shouted, frustration clouded her voice, Lin took a step to her but decided to stay out of the argument, "You've done this before!"
"It's not that!" August argued back and glared at sule, "what ever you're thinking it's nothing!"
"Oh yeah!? How about how you didn't speak with me or even Lin for an entire year!?" Sule growled and waved her arm down in anger, Lin took a step back and looked at them with worry.
"You shut everyone out and didn't even talk! And when you did talk to me it was when you found out I would be leaving and even then you didn't even say goodbye the day I left!!"
August took a step back, clearly cut off guard and growled.
"It's not-"
"Why didn't you tell me something was wrong?" Her voice shook, her eyes looked down to the ground, "You're my best friend and you didn't even talk to me, or even Lin, you could've trusted us."
Lin nodded in agreement and hid in their hood, "She's right you know? Ever since then you lost your color.....The only thing left is your soul."
"Ever since then?" Sule asked Lin with a slight bit of shock. They nodded their head earning a small look of betrayal from August. Sule looked to August with a small bit of disbelief and bit down on the black part of her shirt.
"You're still on about what happened?" Her voice was muffled as she grunted in slight pain.
Very slowly two pair of damaged wings opened on her back. Both of them weren't complete all the way, they were both cut in half badly that it showed some bone at the top.
August's eye widened in shock and stepped back. Sule rolled her eyes and crossed her arms.
"Goddammit August I told you to stop with that! It's not your fault, I fucking deserved it anyway."
"The hell sule!?" August yelled, his face complete flushed with anger and regret, "You say that like it doesn't hurt even after all these years! And yes! It is my fault!"
"Is that's what's been bothering you!?" Sule yelled back and pointed at August, "It doesn't matter anymore, it's done and nothing else can be done about it! And if it did you could've just talked to me, I wouldn't be angry about it. What makes me angry is that now you want to say something after all these years!"
"It's not that I didn-Ack!!" August screamed and gripped his soul, pain was basically stabbing through it at him point, Both Lin and sule ran to his side immediately.
Sule grabbed his shoulder and pushed him up from falling, the pain in his soul seemed to increase for only a few seconds before it dissappeared completely.
"W-what the hell was that?" Sule asked, August took a deep breath and removed his hand from his soul. He gave a quiet gasp and stood up straight.
"Another part came off..." he said and looked down, a few black pieces on the top of his soul had dissappeared but more still remained.
"What do you mean another.....what the hell!?" Sule jumped and looked to the forest, a yellow light from far away glowed. It was bearly visible to where they were but the glow got bigger and brighter till it started to go up.
Sule raised an eyebrow and started to climb up a tree that was next to her, as she did she slowly closed her wings and made it to the top.
She stood on the thick part of the branch and looked up to the sky where the light was heading to two other objects in the sky.
In an instant the light struck the black objects and they began to fall from the sky to the forest below. Sule watched in pure shock and lifted herself higher to see where it landed. She gripped the tree when she noticed a small detail on one of the black figures.
"What do you see?" August and Lin called out, sule stayed on the tree for a couple of more moments before slowly coming down to them.
"I think....." Sule trailed and started to walk into the forest, "I think I know where red district is now."
And with that she left.
○●○●○●○●○●○●○●○●○
I can't believe this, Sule thought as she ran through a few branches she pushed aside, It was supposed to go after Yellow not red...
If that's them, then it should be over here, she quietly but quickly walked over to where she presumed they fell, she shivered as we walked near a lake and went to a tree to turn to look.
She almost screamed.
A monster, from what she could tell from the two seconds she saw them, flew past her with a rope pulling them through the forest.
In blank panic sule turned and hid behind the tree keeping her back off the tree.
WHAT. THE. FUCK!? Her mind screamed as her soul pounded against her chest. She turned her head to look and saw a few more monsters walking around armed with guns. She took a closer look and nearly slapped her head.
What the hell are the scouts doing here?, she groaned and sighed, they probably saw the light and came.....but what we're they doing near the forest in the first place...wait......those aren't the scouts.....
The monsters continued to roam around the path looking tense and holding their weapons high and near them. Sule sighed and looked around to see how many more there were.
I'll have to get rid of them first, she thought and looked around and back at the lake where it had a small hill in front of it.
She rubbed her eyes when she saw two other figures hiding behind it. They seemed to be talking with each other, sule gave a confused look and began to climb the tree quietly to get a better look.
She stayed in the middle of the tree not daring to get close to the water. She looked down to the figures and nearly fell out of the tree.
"Geno!?" Sule immediately slapped a hand over her mouth and hid within the tree.
"What was that!?" One of the monsters asked and looked around. One of the monsters even started to walk over to the tree sule was in and near the lake.
Shit, Sule cursed herself and looked down at the ground to the monster that circled around it.
When they moved to the other side sule hopped down silently and waited for them to turn back to her.
When they did sule immediately raised her knee to their chest making them bend over enough for her to hit them on the back of the head with her elbow. In an instant the monster passed out onto the ground, sule sighed and looked at the rope that was tied to their ankle.
She got to the side of them before grabbing the rope and giving it a pull, the monsters body was being dragged away like the last monster in seconds.
She looked down to the ground where a small pistol laid and grabbed it.
It'll probably be useful...Sule shrugged and nearly screamed when a few more monsters were being dragged by the rope.
She heard another voice whisper, she pressed her shoulder against the tree and peeked around it.
Two figures started to run down the path and further into the forest. She stayed close by the trees and began to follow them.
If he's alive....then he must have been found by red district, she kept her steps quiet but it was getting harder to keep up with them, if they're heading that way I can just leave a mark on a tree or something.
But suddenly both of them stopped in the middle of the path, sule backed up and stayed close. For a couple of minutes they stayed like that, in fact, a few more figures stood with them, she presumed that they were talking.
Suddenly the group split up, most of them went to the left into the forest while two of them went to the right.
Shit, she looked back and forth between the two groups, which one do I follow?
She made a last minute decision and ran to the right, and apparently her decision was correct.
The two figures walked into, from what she could tell, a tunnel. It was long and narrow, and kinda hard to see into.
She stayed close but far away and began to climb up a tree.
If I can just see inside then I can leave, she sighed and sat down on a branch, leaning her shoulder on a tree she watched as the two figures didn't make anymore movements inside the tunnel and stayed in half way.
They must be guarding it, she thought and raised an eyebrow, So this is red district, they've been hiding inside a mountain all this time?
I'll wait, Sule sighed and looked up at the tree, I can't do anything else for you guys, I'll have to tell them I found it, so sorry about that I guess.
Eh.....I'm already apologizing and I haven't done anything yet, She looked down at her hands, remembering the bunny.
..haven't done anything yet my ass, to be fair August did say he was a murderer. Who the hell kills their kids and wife!?
Well, nothing I can do about it. I don't even plan on living long so....
She sighed and looked at the tree, pressing her finger on it, burning a black line on it, So I guess I'll burn in hell then, ppff I'm definitely not going to heaven. If it even exists that is, well, after this I'll go.
"Hello?" A small voice said within the tunnel, Sule tensed up and stayed quiet.
"Mini," another voice said in surprise, "what are you doing out here, it's not safe."
"The other kids kept talking about something bad happening," Mini whined, Sule slightly opened her eyes in surprise and thought for a second.
Other kids? Then...this was the district where the migoruty of the kids went too.... She covered her mouth and stared at the tunnel and back at the tree where the small black line was. She sighed and put her hand on the tree.
We have kids back over there too, babies even.....I can't just, ugh why does this have to be difficult?
"Why don't you go hang out with fell or maybe one of your friends?" Another voice said, she heard mini whine.
"But fell won't come out of his room, he says he's scared." Mini whined and basically held onto one of the figures.
"And I don't want to be alone."
Sule basically slammed her head against the tree in defeat, kkkiiidddd, you're making this really hard to do.....
She huffed and looked back into the tunnel, she saw one of the figures leading the smaller one away.
She rubbed her head, feeling stressed, god I don't know if can do this...that's a kid down there, and there's more inside too.
She looked back at the tree, unsure of what to do.
But if I lie and say that I didn't find the district, they'll definitely find out and....I don't even know what will happen to them back home. Maybe the other two will protect them? No, they don't even know they're doing this.
She shook her head and too a deep breath, it didn't seem to help calm her nerves.
I don't...have to tell them I found it right now it'll give them some time to leave. I can give them two days......five?........Fine! Seven but I can't do anymore than that, they're on there own after that.
She took a deep breath and began to hide the small mark with small branches from the tree, as she did so her eyes fell to her pocket where the pistol she grabbed was in.
After she finished covering up the small line she grabbed the pistol and looked at it like it was some prized possession.
Or maybe.....I won't need to tell anyone, if I don't come back.....I can do it right now....
As she looked at the pistol, holding it with one hand, she used the other to summon her soul in front of her.
Without even hesitating, she pointed the pistol at her soul.
Her soul was dull but bright yellow color, it only floated a few feet away from her.
She closed her eyes and clicked the back of the gun and put a finger to the trigger.
I'm regretting even seeing Lin now, and August, but I've been planning this for a while so.......
Sorry.
