Chapter 24 {Bedelia}
The cool wind whipped past her face as her red hair was caught in the wind's playful grasp.
She clutched the leather reins tightly as the beast hit another air current.
Bedelia and her fellow Hunters flew through the sky on the backs of domesticated Griffins; their sharp eyesight and extraordinary sense of smell made them the perfect hunters.
Raised from birth in one of The Wingerys of Et ignis in Terris, these Griffins and many more were domesticated and used as means of transport, work, or just leisure, though that last one was mainly for rich people. Very few were used for hunting and tracking purposes. They were lucky that one of the three holds of Et ignis in Terris had Griffins raised as expertise hunters.
Her Griffin growled at Kiran's, attempting to bite at it.
The other Griffin let out an outraged shriek, and shot back at hers before Kiran yanked its head away sharply with the reins.
Bedelia made sure to whip hers to let it know that insubordination was not tolerated.
The Griffin's head drooped low as they continued on.
Awhile later Rhys' Griffin cried out, and dove down to a clearing in the trees.
The rest of the Griffins followed their alpha; these Griffins had been raised together and listened to their alpha after their human.
Landing in the clearing, they all took in the carnage.
Pools of blood and distorted bodies littered the clearing.
It wasn't the most horrific thing she had ever seen. She had seen far worse.
She unconsciously touched the scar on the left side of her scalp. Bedelia still remembered the awful day that earned her this scar. It was the very reason she pursued her goal to join The Hunters and put these murderous monsters in their place.
"These soldiers weren't killed by just any magical creature. It looks like one with elemental abilities, and four to be exact." Terre said.
Terre was the oldest and most knowledgeable of them all, and should rightfully be leader due to his experience. But Rhys' father was the last leader before Rhys, and was taught everything his father knew.
Though, none of them argued. Arguing would get them a beating like Audra did when she tried to kill that Fire Draconigena.
Arguing would also lead to unreliability between the seven of them, and they couldn't have that when they needed unity to put all of the monsters in their places.
"What do you think did it then?" Irving asked, using his hook to poke at the soldier riddled with roots.
It looked the soldier had been merged with the roots. Only a dryad or Forest Dragon would have been able to pull of something like that. A Forest Draconigena could have done it as well but the Draconigena weren't exactly kicking anymore.
"Don't touch that you idiot. That plant could easily do that to you next. For we all know a rogue dryad is on the loose bad attacking random people." Kiran told Irving.
"Not dryad." Rhys said suddenly. It was the first words he had said leaving Et ignis in Terris.
"What then?" Bedelia asked. "The only thing that could have done this was a dragon."
"Four different breeds of dragons wouldn't be roaming Elementa together. It could only be..." Terre trailed off, leaving the rest of them to piece two and two together.
"The Draconigena are coming out of the shadows. That one boy was only the beginning. Now more of them are becoming braver, and are finally taking out their anger, and I fear they will not stop here."
"If the Draconigena are coming back, then we'll need more help than just the seven of us." Audra said. "For we all we know they've already got an entire attack force ready to strike on one of the largest cities in Elementa."
Rhys didn't say anything. He remained quite.
"Hey, I found a survivor." Berlio called to them. "He needs serious medical attention. Terre this is your department."
Berlio moved aside as Terre limped over to the more than half way dead man.
Terre may of had a game leg but he didn't let that stop him, especially when facing a dragon; a dragon's tail had shattered his leg a long time ago, and it had never healed properly even with magic.
Terre's hands glowed as he muttered healing spells over the bloodied form of the middle aged man with light ashen grey hair.
Bedelia wondered how this man was even still alive. Why would a Draconigena leave one person alive? A Draconigena would never be so careless if they wanted to maintain their nonexistence to all of Elementa. They would be more discreet, instead they left a survivor alive. Did they do it on purpose? Or did they just forget? None of it made sense.
"Go search for more survivors. All of them will be turned into Hunters." Rhys said, shocking all of them.
"With all due respect, Rhys, but there has always been seven Hunters." Terre told their leader. "There have never been more than seven. It may not be even possible to turn any of them into Hunters."
"Then you and Bedelia can find a way. With more Hunters in our ranks we can finally wipe out the Draconigena race and all of the other magical creature races once and for all. Then Elementa will finally and solely belong to mankind."
