Chapter 16 {Savita}
The new queen of The Fire Lands walked down the dark, slimy hallway of the dungeons, the most unpleasant place in the whole palace; it was also the coolest with an infestation of rats. She had a meeting with a very important prisoner.
Arriving at the heavily armed door to the cell, she dismissed the guards with a flick of her wrist.
No one would dare challenge the newly instated queen, especially when she was the only one who could get the infamous assassin to reveal the whereabouts of her precious little twin siblings.
She opened the door with a loud creak, and entered the cell.
Savita looked upon the chained, worn, and tired but rebellious assassin.
Phoenyx looked up at her and smiled a wicked smile.
"Hello, my queen. How may I serve you?"
"You have served me well enough, my dearest friend." She said walking up to the bars of the cell that separated her from the most dangerous assassin in all of Elementa.
Phoenyx just tilted her head at her.
"You mean to say that they still haven't found those annoying little brats?"
"They have not. You did a good job making sure no one found them. And for that I must reward you."
"How do will Her Highness reward me?" The assassin asked.
Savita wrapped her hand around one of the grimy bars, and looked down at her friend.
"By assuring your freedom so you can make sure no one finds my siblings."
"Every queen needs a right hand."
She smiled back at the assassin, and dropped the key ring on the ground close to the assassin.
"Do you have a plan to make sure my escape is covered?"
"That I do, and it involves a little blamed murder." She said in a malicious tone.
Savita sat on the throne in the throne room, looking down at the cowering young man before her.
"Hakan Paytah, you have been found guilty of murdering Warlord Baskara Abellona. How do you plead."
"My queen, I didn't kill Warlord Baskara. I swear on my life. I would never kill anyone in my entire life. I'm innocent." He said in a shaky tone.
He was so easy to blame, especially when Phoenyx would make her escape.
"You may say you're innocent. But we have no solid proof that you didn't kill Warlord Baskara. So for now—," she was interrupted when a couple of guards rushed in, looking out of breath and banged up.
"Queen Savita...the the prisoner...she has escaped." One of them gasped, clutching his side.
At these words, Ignacio had his guard form up around her in a protective circle.
She originally only had ten guards on her but after Phoenyx "threatened" to kill her, Ignacio doubled their guard.
She thought it was adorable and ridiculous at the same time at the lengths they were going to protect her from absolutely nothing.
She stood up in her throne, and looked accusingly at Hakan.
"You helped her, didn't you."
"No, I—,"
"Silence! I will be the only one permitted to speak. You helped her escape and killed Baskara to get all attention off her and all on you so she could escape. Clever. But you'll pay for your mistake by taking your accomplice's spot in the dungeons!"
The guards grabbed Hakan, and started dragging him out of the throne room as he begged for mercy, claiming he had done nothing wrong.
She could sense Elidi tense with fear; her hand maiden hardly ever left her side, sadly. The poor girl had watched her friend be dragged away all so her plan could work. But his death would not be in vain. Elidi and others would see that soon too. Just as she did.
But for now, sacrifices were necessary in order for her plan to work.
That night, as she preparing to go to sleep, she heard a knock on her window.
Elidi had left twenty minutes ago, thinking Savita had gone to sleep. She hated lying to the poor girl but she had to. No one could ever know about her plan; Phoenyx was the only exception.
Getting out of her bed, she walked over to the window, and opened it.
A red-tailed hawk sat on the windowsill with a leather capsule tied to its leg.
Taking it off, she read the message.
Smiling to herself, she wrote down a response, and sent the hawk back on its way.
All the pieces were finally starting to fall together.
