Chapter 10 {Savita}
Savita stood before the mirror as Elidi pulled the strings in the back of her dress tight.
"Are you almost done, Elidi?" She asked, growing impatient.
"Almost, Your Highness." She responded.
"I'm not queen yet, Elidi. So you don't have to call me that."
"I'm sorry, princess." Elidi corrected herself.
Savita looked back at the mirror, especially at the ruby and rose quartz studded necklace she refused to ever take off. This was her only reminder and thing she had left of Kaj, and she refused to ever let it out of her sight, not even for a second.
Elidi continued to tie up the back of her amazonite green dress, the color of Kaj's eyes.
When Elidi was down with that, she attended to her hair and makeup.
She had to look regal and imposing today. She had to show her father's warlords/advisors and the people that she could handle being queen and so they wouldn't try and take the throne from her. It was her birthright, and she trained for two long years so she could take the throne for herself. That throne was hers and hers alone, and whoever got in her way would be eliminated just like her family.
Once her hair had been plaited and placed in a spiral bun and her makeup was perfect, she and Elidi headed down to the throne room where her coronation would take place.
A dozen guards stood in front of the gilded doors. They all gave her the highest bow of respect as she approached.
"Your Highness." They all said at the same time, as they were trained to do.
She nodded her head to them, and continued on through the doors they opened; Elidi quickly disappeared into the gathered crowd.
Many nobles stood in the room, making an aisle from the doors to the throne. The warlords were arrayed on the sides of the throne. The newly designated High Mage stood in front of the throne, holding the gold crown inlaid with blood diamonds that belonged to her mother when she was queen.
She felt disgusted at the thought that she would be wearing the same crown her hypocrite mother wore. She considered getting a new one made in secret or destroying this one to get a new one. However, she quickly dismissed the idea afterwards. Destroying the crown or asking for a new one would make her look suspicious. She was suppose to be grieving her family, not worrying about stupid crowns.
She only had to get through this last obstacle, and then the throne and Et ignis in Terris would be hers, and she could set her plan into action. It was the reason she was doing all of this, besides to get revenge for Kaj. Kaj would be proud of her if he could see her now.
She approached the new High Mage and kneeled in front of him.
"Princess Savita Aelius of Et ignis in Terris do you solemnly swear to protect all the people of Et ignis in Terris when you become queen?" The mage asked, looking at her with his purple eyes.
"Yes." She responded.
"Do you swear to treat all your citizens fairly and to uphold the laws of Et ignis in Terris?"
"Yes."
The mage nodded, and turned to the warlords.
"Do you accept Princess Savita to ascend the throne?"
"Yes," Vesta responded without hesitation, as did Keahi. Cyrus and Anshul responded a moment later. Baskara was the only one to hesitate.
She looked at him carefully. His hesitation could cause problems for her, and make her citizens suspicious. That was a problem she could not have.
He acted like he didn't trust her. Like he knew she killed her father. But that was impossible for him to know. There was no way he could have figured that out.
Although, he was very determined and highly loyal to her father and grandfather, Adar.
She would have to do something about him and get him out of the picture before he pieced one and one together. And she knew just the perfect person for the job and the person to take the fall.
Then Baskara finally accepted.
The mage nodded.
"I now proclaim you Queen Savita Aelius of Et ignis in Terris." The mage said, placing the golden crown on her head. "Long live the queen!" He exclaimed as she stood up, and walked up to the throne. The warlords moved out of her way as she seated herself in the throne.
People echoed the mage's proclamation till the whole hall was filled with it.
She could see Baskara secretly watching her and in turn she was doing the same.
It was time to do away with the old and bring in someone new. Someone that would gladly lay down their life for her and Et ignis in Terris, and she had the perfect idea of who to offer it to.
