Concerning Wingmaidens (RTTE)
Hey, guys. So me and Heatherforreal , a good friend of mine, just recently had a discussion about Wingmaidens and the debate about the practicality and authenticity of the Wingmaidens using baby dragons to fly rather than adult Razorwhips. Please comment or reblog and tell us what you think. This has been bugging us for a while.

Noctus: And yeah the DOTW and WM will be more realistic. The DOTW will be more Viking in appearance, and have boats even, while I'll have the WM have boats but mostly for fishing and transport (mostly for transporting new recruits or retired members), but other than that, they are determined to remain on the island. And they won't be flying with the baby Razorwhips. Makes no sense to me that baby Razorwhips, who have weak eyesight, can fly around and carry 100-110lbs average females with armor. Makes no sense. Maybe you can explain that? But I can't.
Heather: (One question, where did you get that weight number from. I — a teenager — weigh 146. Most of the other girls weight around 160. There are only two girls who weight 100-110. They are both 5 foot ZERO and skinny as heck.) The average weight for a woman is around 170, so if we add the 45 pounds that armor normally is, that's 215 lbs! I don't think the poor Razorwhips should go through that. However, it is a fantasy world and technically the dragons could be like ants, who can hold up to 5000 times their weight, in which it's possible. However, yet again, the most ever lifted by a bird was 6.8 kg. It was by a bald eagle. I'd say the Razorwhips would be classed as birds waaaay before ants.
Noctus: Agreed. Makes no sense for baby Razorwhips to do that. (Nah, just guessed. I hear a lot about girls being that heavy. Not that I think that. But my mom and sister are 5'6 and weigh about that heavy.) But if the women are THAT heavy, plus armor and weapons, yeah... definitely a no-go. And yeah, I guess I could explain it away as fantasy, same with volcanoes and other impossible stuff, but that's a lazy way to go about it, don't you think? Maybe we should have the WM actually flying the Razorwhips? Like the adult ones? I mean what are the female Razorwhips DOING over there in their nests? Popping eggs out all of the time?! It just... I don't think that, as big as their island is, that the Wingmaidens would be able to get away with walking 24/7. Not a really quick method to respond to threats or to rescue someone. But I'm not even sure how to go about this. Would the female Razorwhips even be WILLING to be ridden?
Heather: I personally view things like this. If the basic principle is something basic in the world, then it needs to follow the basic rules for whatever it is. Fantasy can wave the details, but sound science needs to be backing the idea. If you are going to have a people group that flies with baby dragons, we need to one — see that the adult dragons of the species are extremely strong in order to compensate for the babies being able to carry the weight of one female. Second, following the rules they say for the dragon? The Razorwhips tails are sharp, not strong. So they shouldn't be able to hold the women up with just their tails. And even if they could, the WM would be in two pieces. And that wouldn't be comfortable... with all the barbs in the tail. The adult Razorwhips would have been a much better option. If the Wingmaidens are the ones taking care of the babies (which they really shouldn't, because that's the mother's job), then those babies — when grown — should be willing to let their caretakers ride them. If they DID ride the females, then they couldn't have them locked up. They'd train the more gentle ones, most likely to respond to a series of whistles or other such noises. If the Wingmaidens called, then the ones closest would come to their aid. It's not a perfect idea, but it's much better than the other option.
Noctus: I guess the spikes are curbed like a Nadder's when not in use so it's safe? But I agree that their tails are said to be sharp, not strong, so I don't see how they'd be able to hold people without cutting them in half.
Maybe it's because of the armor they're wearing? Maybe armor made of Razorwhip scales is immune to their sharp tails? Unless it's, again, just an animation oversight?
And it confuses me why the WMs are taking care of the babies instead of the mothers. Maybe the mothers are busy guarding the other eggs/older hatchlings against any male Razorwhip presence? It seems to me like the WMs protect the young hatchlings until they're old enough to go back to the nest to be raised the rest of the way by their mothers, before being old enough to leave the nest. And yes, it's a much better idea than what existed.

Please let us know what you think and give us some insight. This would be so helpful for us. Because we haven't a clue. And I personally don't want the Wingmaidens using baby Razorwhips. It's just... doesn't look right. It's also not safe. For anybody.
Thank for reading and participating. See you soon.
