Nightmare sighed softly to himself. He was perched on one of the branches from the Tree of Feelings, watching as the rain fell down somewhat heavily. The droplets were cold and made him shiver, though he didn't mind. He liked the rain. He liked to follow the raindrops that traced down surfaces and listen to it's natural melody as each watery orb pitter pattered onto the leaves.
"You're going to freeze to death." Error grumbled from beside him, zipping his hoodie up and shoving his trembling hands into his pockets.
Nightmare smiled, remembering he wasn't alone. He turned slightly to glance at the other skeleton and let out a quiet chuckle.
"Really? It looks like you're the one that's going to freeze." He mused.
Error mumbled something incoherent, glaring slightly at the smug-looking guardian. Nightmare gave him a toothy grin, turning back to observe the rain for a few more minutes.
"We can go inside, if you want." He eventually said, shifting his focus back towards Error once more.
Error simply nodded in response, standing up and creating a glitched portal.
"It's not far to walk there." Nightmare snorted, sparing a glance to the visible doorway of his house.
Error rolled his eyes and folded his arms.
"I am not walking through the rain and getting soaked." He huffed, not waiting for a response and instead stepping through the portal. Nightmare hummed, trailing after the other skeleton with a small smile on his face.
The portal closed behind him once he was through. He glanced around, noting they were in the living room. He didn't have to worry about Dream finding out Error was here since he was out on one of his adventures with Ink and Blueberry. Error scanned the room before approaching the couch and face-planting it. Nightmare let out a breath of laughter, deciding to shuffle through the movies him and Dream had so they could watch something.
"What're you doing?" Error asked, his voice drastically changing tone halfway through the sentence. His face flushed blue in embarrassment and Nightmare burst into a fit of laughter. Error turned onto his side so he was facing the back of the couch, deciding he didn't want to look at Nightmare.
"Looking for a movie." The guardian answered once his laughter had died down. Error stayed quiet, too busy sulking. Nightmare momentarily glanced at the destroyer, grinning before sorting through the movies once again. Just as he was about to pick one, the front door was kicked open, startling the two skeletons. Nightmare jumped, letting out a pathetic squeak and dropping the movie he had selected and Error rolled off the couch so he was upside down, staring at the doorway.
Dream cheerfully entered the house, Ink and Blueberry scurrying after him. All their eyes locked onto the two skeletons.
"Uh, hi?" Error eventually greeted, waving awkwardly. Nightmare recovered from his shock and gave his brother and the other two a sheepish smile.
"Why is Error here?" Dream asked, fear laced in his voice.
Nightmare frowned, picking up the DVD he had dropped.
"He came to visit me so I wouldn't be lonely while you were gone."
Dream faltered, a look of puzzlement crossing his features.
"But he destroys worlds?" He half asked.
Error sat up and shifted so he was no longer upside down and was now instead leaned against the couch with his arms folded. He opened his mouth to retaliate until he realised he didn't have a good argument against that.
"Well, yeah." He replied.
"But he's my friend and he promised he wouldn't destroy Dreamtale!" Nightmare hurriedly added before Dream could do or say anything. "And he visits me whenever you're not here so I have someone to talk to."
Dream slightly relaxed, replaying what his brother had told him. He let out a sigh, giving Error a wary smile.
"Okay, I guess I won't kill you."
Error blinked.
Blueberry suddenly pushed past Ink and Dream, running up to Nightmare with blue, starry eyes.
"Hello, Nightmare!" He greeted cheerily, hugging the other. Nightmare froze for a few seconds before returning the hug.
Blueberry giggled, releasing the hug and turning to face Error.
"Hello, Error!"
"Don't you dare-" Error started, shrieking when Blueberry ran towards him to give him a hug. Error skilfully dodged the hyper skeleton and ran towards Nightmare, hiding behind him. Blueberry huffed, turning around and once again running towards the destroyer. Error let out another shriek, using his blue strings to quickly get onto the roof.
"Hey- you can't do that!" Blueberry whined, stamping his foot.
Nightmare stifled a laugh, placing a hand on Blueberry's shoulder.
"Error is scared of being touched." He informed the smaller skeleton. Blueberry tilted his head, trying to understand before gasping and staring up sadly at Nightmare.
"That means he can't have hugs!" He cried out with the saddest look Nightmare had ever seen. Nightmare gave him a reassuring smile and pat Blueberry's skull.
"It's okay, he doesn't like affection."
"Disgusting." Error agreed, sticking his tongue out and pretending to gag. Blue frowned, deciding to hug Nightmare again.
"Well if I can't hug Error then I'll hug you twice! " He exclaimed, following up with a "Mweh heh heh!"
Nightmare blushed slightly, awkwardly hugging the small skeleton back. Dream and Ink both glanced at each other.
"I think we should all have a sleepover." Dream half-whispered. Ink hummed thoughtfully before smiling and giving the guardian a thumbs up. Dream grinned widely, turning back to face the other three skeletons that had started bickering.
"We're all going to have a sleepover!" Dream announced, startling the trio. Error hopped down from the ceiling, standing beside Nightmare and narrowing his eyes.
"I don't want to be around you, you and definitely not you." He huffed, pointing at Blueberry last.
"Well that's not very nice." Ink muttered, glaring slightly at the destroyer. Error scoffed, ignoring the artist.
"We're having a sleepover whether you like it or not!" Dream declared, grinning. Blue cheered excitedly, running in a circle around the coffee table. Nightmare smiled.
"Well, I don't have anything better to do." Ink said, wandering towards the couch. He removed Broomie from his back and placed the giant paintbrush down against the wall before taking a seat and staring expectantly at Error.
Error glared back at him.
"What?"
"Are you staying for the sleepover?"
Error mumbled to himself, glancing at the other skeletons in the room. He didn't want to be alone in the anti-void, yet he didn't want to be stuck with two hyper idiots and Ink. Then again, Nightmare was also here and he supposed the others weren't so bad. But they're annoying-
Error groaned, feeling a headache forming at the thoughts that swarmed his mind. Nightmare frowned worriedly.
"Are you okay?"
Error nodded, gritting his teeth before letting out a breath of defeat.
"Okay, I'll stay."
To the destroyer's surprise, everyone cheered.
"Hey, let's watch the movie that Nightmare picked out." Ink suggested, gesturing to the DVD case that the guardian forgot he was holding. He glanced down at it, making sure it was suitable for Dream and Blue. It was about cats so it definitely was suitable. Nightmare nodded, turning to face the DVD player. He switched it on and pressed the eject button, inserting the DVD and closing it. Ink grabbed the remote that sat beside him, turning the TV on and pressing play on the movie.
"I'm going to get snacks." Nightmare announced, treading towards the kitchen. Error trailed after him, deciding he didn't want to stay in the room with the Star Sanses. He entered the kitchen, examining the layout before approaching the table and sitting on it. Nightmare glanced at him.
"That's not how the table is used." He mumbled, sorting through one of the cabinets in search for food. He pulled out some bags of popcorn kernels and grabbed a few apples to slice.
"I use anything however I want to." Error proclaimed, absentmindedly swinging his legs back and forth.
Nightmare hummed, grabbing a knife and beginning to carefully cut the apples into thin slices. Once he was done, he scooped them all up into his hands and dropped them into a glass bowl. He moved onto the popcorn, briefly reading the instructions and placing the bag into the microwave for about three minutes. Error hopped off the table and stood beside Nightmare, listening to them pop. He liked the noise they made. The two peered into the Microwave, subconsciously trying to guess when there would be a 'pop'.
Nightmare eventually grew bored and moved away from the microwave, deciding to see if they had any chocolate. He opened another cabinet and moved a few items aside, spotting a few bars of chocolate in the back. He reached in and grabbed them, jumping slightly when he heard the microwave ding. He shut the cabinet door and placed the chocolate beside the bowl of apple slices, shooing Error away from the microwave and carefully taking the popcorn out. He grabbed another bowl and began to empty the popcorn into it.
"What's this?" Error suddenly asked.
Nightmare finished emptying the popcorn and discarded the now empty bag into the trash can before stepping towards Error to see what he was talking about. He glanced down at where the destroyer was pointing and his eyes widened slightly.
"You don't know what chocolate is?" He asked incredulously.
Error blinked, grabbing one of the bars and inspecting it. He squinted, shaking his head after a few seconds of silence.
Nightmare frowned, taking the chocolate from him and opening the wrapper. He broke a piece off and handed it to the glitchy skeleton.
"Eat it, it's really tasty."
Error narrowed his eyes, studying the piece of chocolate and trying to figure out if it was going to kill him.
"It's not harmful- it's food!" Nightmare urged.
Error glimpsed at Nightmare, deciding to trust him and popped the piece of chocolate into his mouth. He chewed on it for a bit, his mismatched eyes widening.
"Do you like it?" Nightmare asked, tilting his head somewhat.
"More."
Nightmare blinked before smiling and shaking his head.
"No, we have to share the chocolate."
Error ignored the other, reaching forwards and trying to grasp the chocolate while being mindful not to get too close and trigger his haphephobia. Nightmare snorted.
"I told you it was tasty." He chuckled, gasping when Error managed to snatch the bar out of his hand.
"Hey-!" Nightmare cried out, though he made no attempt to get it back. There was still another large and small bar of chocolate left- they'll just have to share that. Error ate the chocolate in content, observing Nightmare as he instead trudged over to the other unopened bars of chocolate and began to break them into small pieces and place them in another bowl.
"I think this is enough snacks." He decided, using his telekinesis to lift the bowls and carry them into the living room. Error followed after him, still happily eating the chocolate.
Nightmare glanced at the three skeletons all sat on the couch watching the movie intently. A small smile spread across his face. He placed the bowls of snacks down onto the coffee table and sat beside Blueberry who had started to aggressively pet the space beside him for the guardian to sit. Error refused to sit with them (He couldn't anyway since the couch was full) and instead opted to sit beside the coffee table, making sure he was near to the bowl of chocolate so he could steal it later on.
The five all sat and watched the movie together, making comments and cracking jokes throughout the film. At some point, Error and Blueberry had fought valiantly over the chocolate only for Ink to take it from them and share it with Dream. Nightmare had drifted off to sleep at that point and everyone quietened down, mindful not to awaken the sleeping skeleton. The movie soon ended and everyone was sleepy by now. Dream glanced at the clock, noting it was 11PM.
"Hey, I think we should all get some sleep now." Dream announced, shuffling off the couch.
"Where are we all sleeping?" Ink asked curiously.
Dream hummed thoughtfully.
"Well, who wants to sleep on the couch?"
"Me." Error mumbled, holding his hand up.
Dream nodded.
"Okay, Ink you can sleep in my room on the floor with some blankets and pillows and Blue, you can sleep in Nightmare's room if you want."
Blue and Ink both nodded in agreement, both standing up from the couch. Dream turned to face his sleeping brother, smiling softly before gently scooping him up so he could carry him up to his room.
"Ink, you can go to my room now and get the pillows and blankets out if you want- you know where they are." Dream instructed. Ink saluted and treaded up the stairs. "Blue, you can go up to Nightmare's room- I'll meet you there."
"Roger that!" Blueberry saluted, practically bolting up the stairs. Dream glanced at Error, surprised to see he had already retrieved a blanket.
"Hey, Error." Dream eventually said after a few moments of silence. "Thanks for being friends with Night- I know I was mean to you before and I feel really bad about it now. Please stay friends with him forever."
Error observed Dream.
"I promised I'd never leave his side." He mumbled, waving the guardian off. "Now leave me be."
Dream smiled softly, muttering a 'goodnight' and trekking up the stairs with Nightmare in his arms. Once they reached the top, Nightmare began to stir. He blearily opened his eyes, staring up at Dream with slight confusion.
"Where what am we here going?" He murmured, jumbling up his words into an unintelligible mess.
Dream chuckled, entering Nightmare's room and glimpsing at Blue.
"You fell asleep while we watched the movie and now we're all going to sleep." He answered, gently placing Nightmare onto the bed. Nightmare hummed, blinking repeatedly and yawning.
"Blue is going to sleep in here with you on the floor with some blankets and pillows- you don't mind, do you?"
Nightmare glanced at Blueberry who waved at him cheerfully.
"I don't mind." He mumbled, closing his eyes again. Dream let out a breath of amusement, grabbing the ends of the bed cover and tossing them over Nightmare.
"It's usually you tucking me into bed, not the other way around." Dream laughed lightly, removing Nightmare's crown and placing it on the dresser for him. It would be uncomfortable to sleep in it.
"I have obtained blanket!" Blue announced, holding a large, lilac blanket. Dream snorted.
"Well done- the pillows should be under the bed too." He replied, gesturing to the spot under the bed where Blue had retrieved the blanket.
After some fumbling around, Blue eventually got comfortable on the floor with pillows and the lilac blanket.
"Night blue, night Night." Dream chuckled, switching the light off and exiting the room. He smiled, lingering by the door before heading towards his own room. It was fun to spend time with everyone like this- they should do it again some time.
If they ever get the chance again.
