Disbelief

Guess who's back from the dead?

(Hint- it's me)

Hey okay so this amazing user ClicheAly is writing their own Dreamtale book and I have read the first few chapters and it is honestly AMAZING and so funny please I strongly encourage you all to check it out :)

Odious - extremely unpleasant; repulsive

"I truly believed that maybe we could save you, Nightmare." He growled, lifting the rod up and aiming it at the corrupted guardian's back.

Nightmare glanced behind him, scowling at Blueberry.

"I believed that you could change!" He raised his voice, taking a step forwards.

"But now I no longer believe in you."

Nightmare scoffed and let out a low rumble of laughter as he turned around completely to face the seething skeleton.

Fear and rage swarmed within Blue as he tightened his fist around the staff so much that it hurt. Tremors ran out through his body causing his bones to rattle.  His face was stained a harsh blue with suppressed rage and his eye-sockets were as cold and empty as the void. He gritted his teeth and pushed one foot forward and one foot back into a fighting stance.

Error raised a non-existent eyebrow, somewhat bewildered with the sudden change of attitude in Blueberry. His mismatched eyes flickered over the other's aggressive demeanour and lingered until his gaze switched over to Nightmare who had began to snicker.

"I can't believe this- you of all monsters think that you have the power to stop me?" He mocked, pointing rudely at Blue. "I'd like to see you try, Blueberry. You're weak and stand no chance against me."

"I am not weak." Blue uttered, gaining the destroyer's attention once again.

Error had never seen the other like this. Blue's eyes had a deadness, a stillness. He was rigid and looked as if any minute he'd snap and rip Nightmare to pieces one way or another. It was almost scary how intense Blueberry's glare had become.

Nightmare tutted at the pathetic response, shaking his head and lowering his goopy arm back down to his side.

"Well, if you really believe you're not weak then I won't go easy on you, Blue." He spat, his single eye suddenly flaring a ferocious cyan that carried a burst of anger and fear.

Blueberry and Error simultaneously flinched as the negativity burned it's way into their minds like wildfire and made them stiffen. Blue had never felt such strong, odious thoughts; his grip on Dream's staff loosened and he shut his eyes tight as the hopeless feelings swarmed within him. He couldn't do this. He couldn't.

No. He had to do this.

Blue took a deep breath and reopened his eyes. A few seconds passed before his left eye erupted into a blue blaze fuelled by patience and justice. The staff he was clutching seemed to faintly glow as if it was resonating with the magic that coursed through the skeleton's bones.

Error observed, confused as to why a Sans from an alternate universe was able to wield Dream's staff. He didn't have much time to ponder about it however as a tentacle suddenly shot towards him and latched onto the destroyer, securely wrapping around him and beginning to squeeze. Error choked, feeling a searing pain shoot up through his bones. The 'ERROR' signs around him multiplied and spasmed as the tentacle relentlessly pressed down harder.

"Let go of him!" Blue cried out.

Error could hear the tension and intensity in his words- and it seemed the staff could too. The faint glow suddenly ruptured into a brilliant, bright blue and the levitating stars at either end seemed to glitter and sparkle with power. It was a remarkable spectacle.

Everything seemed to happen in slow motion. Blueberry's form flickered and vanished from sight, leaving Nightmare on edge. The corrupted guardian faltered, spinning around swiftly to try and block the skeleton's attack.

But nobody came.

Agitated, Nightmare turned around again yet nothing could prepare him for the sudden gush of pain that jolted throughout the tentacle holding Error captive. He shrieked in agony, the pained scream resounding throughout the house.

Error took the opportunity to escape, struggling until he managed to break free from the weakened clutch of the tentacle. He glanced at Blue, noticing he still had the staff firmly implanted in the gooey, flailing limb.

"Blue-" Error started before being rendered silent as the other skeleton yanked the staff out and with one fluid movement severed the tentacle. Nightmare winced, feeling his legs weaken and give way.

Error stared at the corrupted guardian with uncertainty. Something didn't feel right.

A few stiff seconds passed. Nothing happened- Nightmare made no move to attack and instead closed his eye. Maybe they really had beaten him for now. Blue tentatively approached the limp body, subconsciously gripping the staff tighter.

It was eerily still.

Blue crouched down beside Nightmare.

Silence.

Error barely had time to register Nightmare's eye reopening.

Another tentacle burst out from Nightmare's back and slammed into Blueberry, hurling him across the room beside where the guardian of positivity lay motionless. Error side stepped away just in time to avoid the next attack and fired his blue strings at Blue, wrapping around him and protecting him from the harsh impact with the wall. Blueberry sputtered out a thank you as the destroyer carefully tugged him back over to where he stood.

"We can't just keep attacking blindly- we need a plan." Error voiced, dodging another swipe from the tentacle.

Blue nodded slightly, glimpsing down at the staff in his trembling hands. He flickered his line of sight back to Nightmare, analysing his gooey form.

"Maybe we should try aiming for the soul?" He suggested.

Error frowned. Wouldn't that kill him?

"We're trying to save Nightmare, not destroy him."

Blue sighed, feeling a headache forming. If only Dream wasn't unconscious- he'd surely know what to do! He should've stepped in sooner and prevented the corrupted guardian from injuring his best friend instead of messing about. It's his fault things turned out this way...

so he'll just have to be the one to fix it.

With the help of Error, of course.

"I think I have an idea." Blue suddenly announced, narrowly avoiding another attack from Nightmare.

Error perked up, shifting his attention onto Blueberry.

"Earlier in the village Dream infused his light energy with your blue strings and it restrained and weakened Nightmare for a bit." He started, voice hushed so only Error could hear. "I think we should do that again- but with more strings so that he's unable to break free."

Error listened intently.

"Okay, but what would we do once he's tied up?"

"Take Dream and evacuate the rest of the villagers- we should send them to another universe where it's safe for them."

"The Omega Timeline?"

Blue blinked. "The what?"

Error rolled his eyes- then again, he shouldn't be surprised. It's not like Blue should know everything about alternate universes- actually it's amazing he knows anything about them.

"It's like a safe haven for genocide survivors or monsters who have no safe place in their alternate universe." He explained as simply as he could. "But there's just one problem- we need a certain anomaly to invite us."

Blue tilted his head, failing to notice the oncoming attack from the corrupted guardian.

"Watch out!" Error yelled.

Blue caught sight of the tentacle just in time and shrieked, swinging the staff and severing the gloopy thing. Nightmare growled and swung his fist at the skeleton's ribs, knocking Blue backwards onto the ground with a sickening crack.

"I don't know what you two are scheming but I won't let you go through with it!" He roared, somehow looking more dangerous than before.

Blue whimpered and his grip on the staff loosened, causing it to slip out of his quivering hand and lose it's glow. There was a sharp, unpleasantly warm pain eating at his ribs and a vile stench of what was most likely blood emanating from where the blow had been. Error crouched down beside the injured skeleton and plucked the staff from off the ground.

"We need to restrain Nightmare quickly and get out of here- are you alright?" He asked, shoving the staff into Blue's hands frenziedly.

"Oh, yes I'm fine- just a few broken ribs." Blueberry grunted, taking the staff and doing his best to sit up.

An outburst of unhinged laughter dragged the destroyer's attention back towards Nightmare. This wasn't his friend. Error felt bitterness and betrayal cloud his mind as he stared in contempt at the monstrous, nauseating thing before him.

"Alright, Nightmare." Blue hoarsely spoke up from where he sat hunched over. "We surrender."

"What?" Error hissed, facing Blue with a mix of confusion and anger plastered on his face. The intensity of his glare softened slightly as Blue met his glare with a familiar glint in his baby-blue eyes. He had a plan.

Error inwardly sighed and prayed that whatever the skeleton was devising would work.

Nightmare abruptly halted his crazed laughter, raising a non-existent eyebrow and taking a step forwards, looming over the injured Blueberry. He was... surrendering?

"Do you seriously think I'll believe you?" He spat, leaning closer in a condescending manner. He couldn't be serious- why would they give up so easily?

Blue nodded weakly.

"Can't you see me and Error have no chance of beating you?" He coughed out. "Dream's unconscious, Error's attacks don't work on you and he has a wound on his skull and I don't think I can stand up."

Error subconsciously lifted his hand to his bandaged skull.

Nightmare's eyelid drooped and he folded his arms, taking in the information. It was true- they were all practically useless and stood no chance against him. He then grinned, retracting the tentacles that had been extended out above the two threateningly.

"Well I'm glad you've finally realised you-"

"Now, Error!" Blue exclaimed.

The destroyer instantly understood the other skeleton's intentions and without delay fired an excessive amount of blue strings at the distracted corrupted guardian, enveloping him in them tightly. Before Nightmare had the time to react, Blue grabbed the staff and tapped it on the strings, infusing them with light energy. The blue strings began to beam a warm yellow and Nightmare shrieked and writhed in agony, desperately trying to re-summon his tentacles so that he could rip apart the strings that bound him. No matter how hard he tried, however, he didn't have the strength to break free- the positivity-infected strings were gradually draining him of his power.

"You brats." Nightmare growled, hopelessly struggling to escape.

Error gingerly helped Blue stand up, momentarily forgetting about his haphephobia. The smaller skeleton wheezed, leaning against the destroyer for support. He knew Error was uncomfortable with physical contact but he literally couldn't walk or stand by himself; the pain in his ribs was overpowering.

Nightmare eventually gave up trying to break away and crumpled onto the ground, feeling his vision become hazy and his breathing become shallow.

Error watched with bitterness. He couldn't feel sorry because he knew this wasn't Nightmare. Even as the corrupted guardian succumb to the darkness and passed out, the destroyer felt no remorse.

Blue, however, felt a pang of guilt and sorrow for his corrupted friend. He knew Nightmare was still in there and he needed saving before the hatred completely swarmed him. He spared a glimpse over at Dream and wondered which twin was suffering more.

"Blue." Error mumbled, snapping Blue out of his trance. "We're going to the anti-void with Dream."

"The anti-void?" Blue asked curiously. Why there of all places- isn't that like... a void?

Blue mentally face-palmed at his own thought process.

"Yeah- we should wait for Dream to awaken and then come up with another way to extract Nightmare from that thing."

Blue remained quiet for a moment.

"But what if Nightmare breaks free while we're gone and murders everyone?"

Error frowned.

"I don't know- guess we'll find out." He answered, already spawning a portal.

"Wait!" Blue yelled, startling Error.

"Agh- what?" Error barked in annoyance.

Completely disregarding Error's angered tone, Blue shifted slightly and pointed towards a table.

"Let's take Keith as hostage."

Error's eye twitched and he had half the mind to push Blue onto the ground. Yet, he surprisingly remained calm and stepped towards the table while helping Blue walk, snatching the depressed pet rock and stuffing it in his pocket.

"Alright, let's get Dream and get out of here." Error huffed, guiding Blue over towards the portal and gently shoving him through.

Maybe he shouldn't have done that.

Shrugging, Error approached Dream's unconscious body and shuddered as the blood-stains became clearer. He hesitated for a few seconds before lifting the guardian up carefully and hurrying over towards the portal. With one last look around the room, Error entered the portal and landed beside an unhappy Blueberry. He placed Dream on the ground and closed the portal with a snap of his fingers.

"I hate you." Blue announced.

Error rolled his mismatched eyes.

"It's your fault for getting injured."

"I couldn't prevent that!"

"I thought the magnificent Blue was capable of everything."

"I am- but not that!"

The two continued to bicker, easing their minds for a minute or so until another voice made them freeze.

"Uh- hey guys."

Ink.
