Broken Bones
Credit to @HilloNightmare for coming up with this idea for a oneshot uwu
If you also left a suggestion/request for a oneshot I will get round to doing it, I promise.

Do skeletons have bathrooms? Probably not, but Dream and Night do.

I STARTED WRITING THIS LIKE ALMOST A YEAR AGO I'M SORRY I NEVER FINISHED IT I GOT PERPLEXED
It was no secret that Nightmare could be very clumsy at times. For instance, he could be outside taking a nice walk only to end up tripping over his own feet or an idle stick- or he could be in the kitchen getting a glass of apple juice only to bump into the table and drop said glass, spilling it's contents. Usually his clumsiness didn't always result in injury, if it did then the damage would be minor, however this time the damage was a little more serious.
The day had started off normal enough. Nightmare had been awoken by Dream at around five in the morning so that they could watch the sunrise. The two brothers were currently perched on one of the branches of The Tree Of Feelings, admiring the rising sun.
"Isn't it beautiful, Night? I love watching the sun rise!" Dream stated, smiling cheerfully. Nightmare hummed thoughtfully, a small smile on his face as he too stared at the sunrise.
"Yeah, I suppose it's nice." He mumbled softly, eyes fixated on the bright ball of light. Dream glanced sideways at Nightmare and chuckled slightly.
"Don't stare at the sun for too long, you'll hurt your eyes!"
"I don't have eyes. I'm a skeleton."
"Wow, me too!"
"How can I hurt my eyes if I don't have any?"
Dream huffed.
"Fine, you'll hurt your eye-lights."
"Eye-lights?"
"The purple light in your eye-sockets that represent your eyes!"
Nightmare released a breath of amusement, turning slightly to look at his brother with empty eye-sockets.
"What purple light?"
Dream huffed again, lightly batting Nightmare's arm. Nightmare laughed softly, his lilac pupils re-appearing with a gentle glow to them, reflecting his cheerful mood.
Dream smiled again, a small, calm sigh escaping him.
The two fell into a peaceful quiet, continuing to watch the sunrise for a few more minutes.
"Hey, we should go make breakfast- I'm starving!" Dream exaggerated, patting his non-existant stomach for effect.
Nightmare hummed, turning back to look at Dream.
"Okay." He simply responded.
"Yay! Let's make pancakes!" Dream cheered, standing up on the branch and glancing downwards. Nightmare frowned slightly, watching his brother with unease.
"Dream, be careful." He mumbled.
Dream giggled.
"I'm always careful! Watch!"
Dream gracefully lowered himself off of the branch and onto another, repeating the steps until he reached the bottom of the tree.
"Your turn!" Dream called out, staring up at Nightmare with an encouraging smile. Nightmare nodded slightly, despite knowing that Dream wouldn't be able to see, and gingerly began to lower himself out of the branch. He wasn't afraid of heights, though as he looked downwards a pang of fear hit him, the ground seemingly growing farther away. He gulped before resuming his actions and warily climbing down the tree.
Of course, Nightmare was clumsy, and it couldn't be prevented when he set foot on a branch too small. His pupils grew wide in fear and he froze.
Dream noticed Nightmare suddenly stop and frowned.
"Night? Why have you-"
Without warning, the branch snapped and Nightmare yelped, falling downwards. He cried out in pain as his arm made a forceful impact with one of the thicker branches. Dream gasped, running towards where Nightmare was falling, barely able to catch him before he made contact with the ground.
"Nightmare!" Dream cried out with wide, worried eyes. Nightmare whimpered slightly, unable to move his left arm without searing pain shooting down it. Alarmed, Dream gently scooped Nightmare up into his arms, hastily walking towards their house with panicked thoughts.
"Y-You'll be okay!" Dream tried to reassure Nightmare and himself, glimpsing momentarily at his injured brother. Nightmare had his teeth clenched, trying to hold back tears. He didn't want Dream to see him cry.
Dream rushed towards the house, kicking the door open urgently and heading upstairs to the medical cabinet which was located in the bathroom. Nightmare groaned in discomfort, a sharp pain shooting down his arm. Not wanting to waste any time, Dream forcefully pushed the bathroom door open, stepping inside and ever so carefully placing Nightmare down on the tiled floor, leaning him against the bath.
Nightmare whimpered slightly, wincing in pain.
"Don't worry, brother. everything will be okay!" Dream tried to reassure, crouching down slightly so he was level with Nightmare. Warily, he reached out and gently began to move Nightmare's arm, elevating said arm above where his soul would be if visible. Nightmare yelped, feeling the same shooting pain in his broken arm.
Dream nervously glanced at Nightmare, making sure he wasn't in too much pain. Panic was clearly evident on Dream's face and Nightmare couldn't help but almost feel guilty for falling. He hated seeing his little brother so worried about him. Dream had no idea what to do, none of them had ever taken care of broken bones before so they were both inexperienced but all Dream knew was that the arm needed a cast. How do you put an arm in a cast?
Dream snapped out of his troubled thoughts, hearing a small whimper escape from Nightmare who cradled his injured arm, tears pricking at the edge of his eye-sockets. A flash of sympathy etched its way onto his face. What should he do? He needs to help his brother somehow- but, how?
Dream frowned, conflicted.
"We could visit one of the Toriels?" Dream murmured more-so to himself than his brother. Nightmare gave a small, sad smile.
"Everyone hates me, Dream. I'm fairly certain that applies to all monsters in the multiverse."
Dream's frown deepened and he glared at Nightmare, crossing his arms angrily.
"That's not true at all!" Dream cried out, "It's just.. not every monster is nice- but I'm sure one of the Toriels will be willing to help us - how about Outertale Toriel, I know how much you like the stars in that universe so maybe it'll cheer you up!"
Nightmare hummed thoughtfully, wincing slightly and shutting his eyes when he moved his hurt arm. Dream wasted no time in waiting for his brother to actually answer, instead letting out a noise of affirmation, gently grabbing Nightmare's good arm and swiftly teleporting them away into the wondrous world that was Outertale.
Nightmare opened his eyes, surprised by the sudden change of surroundings however relaxed when he looked upwards at the many beautiful, twinkling stars ornate in the inky blackness of space and at the many pretty blues and purples. Dream glanced at his brother, pleased with the small smile he dawned as he admired the stars.
"Come on, Night, let's go find Toriel!" Dream exclaimed, gently holding his brother's hand and carefully pulling him forwards, not wanting to agitate his wounded arm. Nightmare remained quiet as he was led by the other skeleton, his gaze locked onto the glittering orbs of light above.
The two wandered throughout the ruins of Outertale until they stumbled upon Toriel conversing with another monster- a Froggit with a space helmet on. Cute.
"Hello Toriel!" Dream greeted cheerily, shamelessly interrupting the two monsters. Nightmare rolled his eyes, looking away from the other two monsters afraid he'd see the same expression the villagers of his universe held when around him.
Toriel smiled warmly, turning around to face the two brothers, momentarily glancing at Nightmare before focusing on Dream.
"Hello Dream, I haven't seen you in a while." She commented, tilting her head ever so slightly. "What brings you both here?"
Dream softly nudged Nightmare, trying to get him to look at Toriel.
"Night broke his arm! Could you please help him?" Dream answered, looking pleadingly up at Toriel. Nightmare shyly turned to face Toriel.
"Oh, well let me have a look at it, dear." Toriel spoke in a motherly tone, crouching down and tenderly taking Nightmare's arm, bringing it forwards so that she can inspect the damage. A fuzzy feeling enveloped Nightmare, not used to this kind of motherly, caring behaviour. It almost made him tear up.
"Well, I can numb the pain for a few hours and put it in a cast for you but I'm afraid the rest will have to heal on its own." Toriel stated, meeting Nightmare's eyes and smiling reassuringly. "It shouldn't take too long the heal."
Nightmare only nodded, not trusting himself to speak without his voice wavering. This kindness from another monster than his brother was unnatural. Toriel stood up, gesturing for the two brothers to follow her as she led the way back to her quaint, little home.
--
"Dream, please stop switching the lights on and off." Toriel asked, her eye twitching however smiling nonetheless. Dream sheepishly grinned, leaving the light on and taking a seat besides Nightmare. Toriel exhaled softly, continuing to put a cast on Nightmare's broken arm. She'd already numbed the pain for him, allowing Nightmare to feel at ease. After a few more moments, Toriel took a step back and admired her work.
"There you go, just try not to move your arm too much and it should be fine in no time." Toriel assured cheerfully. Nightmare gave her a shy smile, thanking her. Dream grinned, jumping up and down excitedly.
"Okay Night, let's go home!" Dream declared, receiving a nod and grin in response. Both brothers waved goodbye to Toriel before vanishing in an instant, arriving back at their home in a flash. Dream cheered, immediately hugging his brother, catching him off-guard. Nightmare's eye's widened slightly at the unexpected lack of personal space however couldn't help but smile a little wider, despite the discomfort in his arm. The hug lasted a little longer before Dream released his brother.
"Let's watch a movie!" Dream suggested, already rushing towards the couch and grabbing the TV remote, switching the magic box on. Nightmare rolled his eyes in amusement, making his way towards the couch and taking a seat. Dream grinned widely, deciding that the movie of tonight would be Lion King.
Dream can't remember when he fell asleep, but he woke up the next day with a soft, yellow blanket draped across him, Nightmare asleep at the other side of the couch, his crown slanted. Dream snorted, smiling blissfully.
Brush your teeth while in quarantine.
