JUST LIKE EVERY OTHER DAY chayu was the first one to arrive at his classroom.
eventually he looked around the desks of classmates, whos' name he barely even memorized. but then again what was the point of memorizing their names, if they didn't remember his?
while they had they drama going on, he studied. while they were partying, he studied. while they went on holiday together, he studied at home minding his own business.
even though chayu had less than a year left at this terrifying place, he knew that it most likely wouldn't ever become better.
sometimes he wished that it's complicated could be a reason for how he felt, but his life was so simple; so simple that he felt as if he was drowning.
it was okay, he would just wait until things changes and break out of the circle... it was just, that he felt that for people like him things don't ever change.
chayu brutally snapped back to reality, when the door was slammed open. it was just a random classmate, but he checked his appearance panicked with his phone anyway.
luckily he was able to surpress a screech, when he saw his red, puffy eyes; it was terrifying. hoping that it'd somehow help he gently pressed his cold fingertips against his eyes and waited.
"seo chayu, what the hell are you doing?" asked taeyong, who had suddenly appeared in front of said boy, who quickly took down his hands. "nothing, nothing."
"if you say so." laughed taeyong, although he didn't miss what chayu had been trying to hide with his hands. "anyway, did you work yesterday? because i went to get a coffee, but didn't see you at the café."
actually chayu was quite surprised about the question. "no, i only work on tuesday, wednesday, saturday and sunday."
"okay, i was just scared that you'd be mad or something if i didn't notice you."
if he hadn't felt so anxious, he'd probably smile at the sweetness of that statement. "don't worry, i wouldn't."
"i'm glad. wait here a second, i'll come back to talk to you." said taeyong walking over to his seat to put down his backpack and left the room.
it's not like i'd go anywhere thought chayu, when taeyong came back with his school books in his arms. eventually he sat on the windowsill next to chayu's desk, so latter would have to look slightly up.
"humm chayu what's your favourite video game?" he asked curiously.
if he had known how much it embarassed chayu, he'd probably not have asked the question. "i don't really play video games, every time i tried it i was so bad at it."
suddenly taeyong's face dropped. "no way! but every guy loves video games. wait- are you not a guy then?"
embarassed chayu hung his head with his cheeks flushed. "i'm pretty sure i'm a boy, though."
"i was just joking around, don't be embarassed." mumbled taeyong, pretty concerned about the mess he had just caused. although he was urging to ruffle the other guy's hair he held himself back, since he knew how much efford he put into his hairstyle. let's try not to ruin this more than i already did... "but for real, it's fun, i can teach you if you want."
obviously chayu wasn't too sure what to think of that. on one hand he'd be so happy to spend time with someone he knew from school, on the other hand he'd be so scared of fucking it up.
"okay, that sounded wrong." taeyong noticed the other's puzzled expression.
"no, it's okay." being the confused child he was, he didn't really get what taeyong meant, but it didn't matter.
eventually the teacher entered the class room a while later and the lesson started. when taeyong opened his folder he found a note that ten had written in the last school year and now he was the one with red, puffy eyes.
turned out that all his attempts of distraction didn't work at all. so what could be the solution? more distraction, obviously.
by the end of the school day taeyong had decided to ask chayu to hang out, since he didn't have work that day.
for some reason latter had left the school building at the speed of light, so taeyong wandered around the campus kinda lost until he found him by the school's gate staring at his phone.
just as taeyong pretended to walk over coincidentally, chayu looked into his direction with a half smiling half apologizing expression. before he could do anything else another person walked towards chayu.
the guy was tall, had fluffy black hair and was wearing a denim jacket. somehow he appeared to be familiar to taeyong. wait- this is jaecheol! he hated admitting it, but the guy looked even hotter than he did when he still went to their school.
wow i will never even be able to compete with all these good looking people around me. he thought in frustration and decided to just walk by without saying anything. then i'll ask doyoung to hang out with me.
"bye taeyong!" said chayu quietly, when he saw the latter pass by. against his expectations he turned around while walking. "goodbye, see you on monday."
"who was that?" asked jaecheol, who had just reached chayu.
"hi, jae!" chayu smiled at his friend widely. "he's just someone from my class." who actually talks to me unlike everyone else he added in his thoughts, but didn't say it out loud because he didn't want jaecheol to worry.
"ah that's nice. then let's go!" said jaecheol and pointed at his parked car.
lim jaecheol was the complete opposite of chayu; he had been one of the most popular guys in his grade and used to be the school president back in the day. jaecheol was rich, extroverted, smart and talented, which never failed to make chayu feel slightly envious of the older boy.
but still, if anyone was close to feeling like a sibling to him, it was jaecheol.
out of blue jaecheol had texted chayu whether he'd like to go shopping with him in seoul in the afternoon, so latter was looking foreward to a happy and fun day; luckily he had some money saved from work.
seoul was about one and a half hours away, but neither of them minded the long car ride, since it meant that they'd be able to talk more.
jaecheol was a kind person, but also easily got into arguments and usually struggled with the people close to him a lot. chayu loved helping him out, but sometimes he couldn't get rid of the feeling that that was all he ever did for jaecheol.
their trip to seoul was quite a rollercoaster and when it was already quite late they ended up in a restaurant, completly done with their lifes.
"i want a brown sweater like this one, but instead of brown i want it in navy!" quoted jaecheol and almost choked while laughing. "what the hell is going on in that cute tiny head of yours?"
"why can't you understand?" whined chayu. "and i'm not that short!"
"mister, could you please put down the soy sauce instead of throwing it at your friend?" requested the waitress in a tone somewhere between annoyed and amused and the two guys just laughed again.
by the end of the day jaecheol drove chayu back home; but this time they were quiet and exhausted.
after a while the sensation of emptiness creeped back into chayu's mind. jaecheol was fun to be around, but the way he was living wasn't his. he knew he should've felt happy and relieved, instead he felt even worse about himself.
the street where chayu lived was too small for a car, so jaecheol parked somewhere by the beginning of it. "should i walk you home?"
"you, i'm fine on my own." deep down chayu hoped, that jaecheol would walk with him anyway, but his friend just nodded in agreement. "okay then, i'll get going." said chayu and got his shopping bags from the trunk.
meanwhile jaecheol got out of the car and gave him one last tight hug. "it was nice to meet up with you again."
"i couldn't agree more." mumbled chayu with mixed feelings. he watched his friend's car disappear into the night and slowly walked toward his home, only to find his father already asleep.
chayu ignored the fact that he hadn't even read a single one of his messages or left a note on the kitchen table and went straight to his room.
before he went to sleep, he decided to upload one of the pictures that jaecheol took of him earlier. actually it annoyed him, but he knew that people would love to see it.
