Memories

(Swear warning– if you don't like swearing, kindly leave)

Ghostbur was in a coma.

He was a ghost, these things shouldn't happen to him.

But Tommy saw it with his own eyes. The translucent figure of Ghostbur, lying still in a bed at Snowchester.

He was shaking, just ever so slightly. They'd assumed it was from cold, but they couldn't possibly put a blanket over him. It just passed straight through him.

Days passed, and there was no change.

Except the lack of shaking.

Ghostbur was still, deathly still.

But... he couldn't be dying, could he? He was already dead. Had been dead, for almost two months. Or... was the universe shifting? Changing? Could these things now happen to them as well?

Tommy couldn't bear to think about these things. He was helping Tubbo build up more of Snowchester! Making a grand resort!

Until one day, he heard some faint sounds of shifting blankets.

Ghostbur was alive.

"Ghostbur?" Tommy called, waving Tubbo down the construction ladder. There was no reply.

But there was a slight bit of stirring, of movement, when they reached Ghostbur. A whisper, as well.

"Tommy? Tubbo?"

They had to strain to hear his voice, but he was... awake, for lack of a better word.

"Techno! Phil!" The two mentioned were close by, also helping with the Arctic construction.

They rushed over, Phil's face taut with concern. He was the one who'd killed his own son, after all. Tommy fished out a piece of semi-clear blue and squished it, and it calmed him.

Soothed him.

Until he looked around him again and saw everyone worrying.

That just made everything worse.

But then Ghostbur sat up.

"Ghostbur, you scared us!" "How could you?" "Ghostbur never do that again!"

"What happened? Why are you all screaming?"

Oh, Ghostbur. Ever the innocent, clueless ghost.

"YOU SCARED US, GHOSTBUR! YOU NEARLY DIED AGAIN, WHICH SHOULDN'T EVEN BE POSSIBLE, I mean, you're DEAD ALREADY AND YET YOU ALMOST DIE AGAIN!" Tommy yelled.

"Calm down, Tommy! I'm fine! I'm a ghost, ghosts can't die!" Ghostbur assured.

"B-but you... you stopped moving!"

Ghostbur looked confused, to say the least.

"Wh- how?"

"WELL I DON'T FUCKING KNOW! I'M NOT THE ONE WHO ALMOST DIED!" Tommy shouted, clearly frustrated, and panicking.

"It's fine, it's fine," Ghostbur tried to reassure. Tommy sighed through his nose – he didn't like this. He squished the piece of blue again, and it turned opaque. Like a clay, it was soft to the touch.

Tommy didn't want to stop, it was too frustrating not being able to know what Ghostbur was going through, he couldn't sleep those past few days and–

With an angry cry, he pushed the blue away from him– and it fell through the air.

It fell, scattering into a fine blue powder, a fine blue dust like chalk.

It fell, coating his shoes, the floor, the bed.

It fell onto– no, through– Ghostbur.

POV change

"Do it."

"Kill me Phil, kill me."

"My L'Manburg, Phil! My unfinished symphony, forever unfinished!"

"It was never meant to be!"

"It's over."

"There was a saying, Phil, by a traitor, once part of L'Manburg."

"The thing that I built this nation for doesn't exist anymore!"

"You're a good kid, Tubbo, and an even better spy."

"Or should I say... President Elect TommyInnit?"

"This is where we take it all back. Either that, or we get nothing."

"I want no survivors! God help whoever's caught in the bloody crossfire!"

"Let's blow this place to kingdom come!"

"Then let's be the bad guys."

"Am I the villain... in this story?"

"Killing Schlatt wouldn't do anything. Killing Schlatt wouldn't do a single thing."

"Schlatt2020 has won the election."

"Tommy, I want to– I want you to do whatever your heart says."

"Independence... or death."

He opened his eyes that hadn't been able to close for two months.

He felt the sheets underneath him, the blanket on top.

He saw the world in full, bright color, not the faded out version he'd been seeing.

He remembered what had happened.

Wilbur was finally... alive.
