Chapter 12

"Doctor Meredith Silverman must not be taking her pregnancy well," Dani whispered to Jax as they sat in the mess hall of Majestic Waters.

"Why do you say that?" Jax asked, examining the quail eggs on his plate.

"Didn't you hear her? She looks like an angel with all that blonde hair but all she could talk about was the pain of childbirth. If she and her husband want more clients here at Majestic Waters, they should skip that information."

"What does that have to do with her hormones? She was just preparing you for what you should expect," Jax said as he popped one of the light brown eggs in his mouth. "Not bad."

Dani stared at Jax silently before whispering, "Did you forget? We're not really here to get pregnant." She took a bite of her salad.

"Don't kid yourself Panda Eyes. You know you want some Jax babies running around."

Dani coughed on her food, accidentally spitting some of it on Jax.

"Do you mind if we sit with you two?" a male voice asked.

Dani looked up into one of the most handsome faces she had ever seen. He had dark hair, pale blue eyes, and a chin that Adonis would've been jealous of.

"Go ahead, have a seat," Jax gestured at the empty seats across from him and Dani.

"Thanks," he smiled. "I'm Simon by the way. This is my wife Molly."

Dani stared at them, her eyes wide.

"I'm Jax. This is my fiancee Dani."

"Nice to meet you both," Molly said, her tone sounding quite the opposite. "You two must be new here."

"That's right," Jax nodded. "My Dani really wanted to come here so how could I say no?"

Simon tried hiding his laugh with a cough.

"So how long have you two been attending Majestic Waters?" Jax asked.

"Over three months," Molly answered. "We're still on stage one of the process."

"I heard each couple works at their own pace. We had some friends that recommended this place to us. Maybe you know them? Ryan and Callie Sommerby?"

"Sommerby?" Molly repeated.

"You remember," Simon nudged her. "Callie and Ryan. They got pregnant pretty quick. She was the hippie girl."
Molly cleared her throat, "That's right. They're a classic case of opposites attracting."

"Just like us," Simon joked, causing Molly to frown.

"They are opposites but they seem to get along fine with everyone," Jax said.

"That's true," Molly said. "I think they were really good friends with Bo and Shelly. Now that's a couple you want to stay clear of. Total nut jobs that are beyond desperate for a child."

"They're not that bad. As for the Sommerbys, I remember them fighting a few times while they were here. Then there was that incident of her getting escorted out of the camp," Simon said. "She was screaming her head off about the camp and calling the cops. Turns out she just wanted her money back."

"Well, we all know that we had to sign a contract. No guarantees and no refunds," Molly reminded him.

"She sure was something. It was the sexiest I'd ever seen her," Simon smiled. When everyone stared at him, he gave a weak smile, "Not as sexy as my wife but still...she was feisty that day."

Molly tapped her nails against the table before slowly looking at Dani and then Jax. "I have to admit, you're one of the most confident men I've met."

"Sorry?" Jax said, not understanding.

"Well if I found out my fiancee was out alone with another man in the middle of the night, I'd be upset. Not to mention having that man sit across from you and handle it with such...such ease. I have to admit I'm finding it difficult to sit across from her," Molly gestured towards Dani.

Dani gasped and looked at Simon, accusation in her eyes.

"Claws in, Molly," Simon said quietly.

"Dani?" Jax asked slowly. "Did you-"

"Why did you tell me to keep us meeting a secret if you were going to tell your wife?" Dani asked, angrily.

Molly scoffed in disbelief, "You're not even going to deny it?"

Dani shrugged, "Why should I? Did you bring it up to try and embarrass me? If that's the case, I'm sorry to disappoint you but I didn't do anything to be ashamed of and Jax knows me enough to trust me."

Jax grabbed Dani's hand, "That's true. My fiancee isn't the type of woman that would let someone touch her so casually."

Molly harumphed, "So you have a lot of faith in your fiancee?"

"I do," Jax said, kissing Dani's cheek.

Simon laughed, "There you have it wife. Stop acting like a green-eyed monster. I told you we met randomly by the lake. Nothing illicit happened whatsoever. It must be nice to have someone by your side that doesn't have a temper."

"That's where you're wrong," Jax said, staring at Dani. "I am upset. Why Dani would go outside alone after falling and getting hurt is something she and I will talk about later."

Simon chuckled, "You're really not jealous? Most men would be after seeing me."

Dani rolled her eyes.

Jax laughed, "I'm not most men. Didn't you see this?" Jax gestured at his face and body, causing Dani to giggle.

"That's true," Molly nodded. "I think you've met your match Simon."

Dani looked between Jax and Simon, "Wow. So this is what happens when two narcissists meet."

Molly finally cracked a smile.

"Molly, I'm sorry if things looked suspicious between your husband and I but it really was just a weird coincidence. I could never cheat on my fiance."

"Thank you Dani," Jax whispered in her ear.

Molly picked up her plate, "For some reason I've suddenly lost my appetite."

"I guess I should be going as well," Simon nodded at Jax and winked at Dani before leaving.

"Asshole," Jax muttered as Simon left.

"Yeah, that he is," Dani agreed.

"Why didn't you tell me about last night?" Jax asked.

"I didn't think it was a big deal. I mean yeah he grabbed me and kissed my neck but once he knew I wasn't the woman he thought he was waiting for, he apologized."

"He did what?" Jax felt anger boiling up inside him. He stood up, fists clenched, looking around for Simon.

"He said he thought I was someone else," Dani said as she pulled him back to his seat.

"He mistook you for his wife?"

"No. Which is why I think you should keep an eye on them. Did you see how that woman wanted to get me into trouble with you? If we were really engaged that would be one thing...but we're not."

"Dani-"

"It's not like I wanted to be alone with him. I just wanted to clear my head after waking up to a roomful of strangers."

"Dani-"

"That woman has issues. I mean it's not like you'd get upset anyway. We're just friends, right? Why would you care?"

"Dani," Jax said loudly, picking up her left hand. "Let me make this perfectly clear...as long as you wear this ring, you are my fiancee and I do care."

"Jax?" Dani wasn't sure how to respond or feel.

Jax wanted to scream. Why did Dani have to forget what had happened the day prior? He sighed at the confusion in Dani's eyes and said softly, "Dani, I don't like hearing that you've been alone with another man."

"Jax, I told you nothing-"

"I don't like it Dani. I know nothing happened...but still. I don't like it."

"If I didn't know better, I'd think you were jealous," Dani said, trying to change the tense mood that had formed between them.

"Then I guess you don't know better," Jax said. He picked up his dish and left Dani alone with her unfinished plate of food and the tumultuous emotions that were confusing her.
