Chapter 11

"Who am I? Who are you?" the dark-haired man Dani had attacked was still bent over, groaning. "I really thought you were somebody else."

"Yeah right, pervert! Stay where you are or I'll really make you sorry," Dani bluffed as she tried to catch a glimpse of her phone which had fallen to the ground.

The man was taking deep breaths which reminded Dani of lamaze breathing.

"I'm not a pervert. I really thought you were someone else."

"Who are you? Tell me the truth," Dani demanded to know.

"Simon. Simon Clinefeld. I'm here with my wife Molly."

A rustling in the trees startled Dani who jumped. A figure dressed in red scampered off, "What was that?"

"Probably the person I mistook you for."

"Why would your wife leave after seeing you hurt and with another woman?"

He took a few more deep breaths before standing up and answering, "I never said she was my wife."

Dani opened her mouth several times to respond but words failed her. She pointed a finger at the man named Simon and shouted, "You...you disgust me! You're having an affair at a camp that's supposed to help your wife get pregnant?"

"Well when you put it that was, it makes me sound kind of like a douche-bag."

"Kind of?" Dani sputtered. "You kissed my neck!" Dani found herself rubbing her neck unconsciously. "What do you do? Kiss anything with two legs?"

" You're the one that showed up unexpectedly. You're also the one that attacked me...even going so far as to hurt me in my-"

"Enough!" Dani cried. "I don't care who you are but if it really was a mistake, you should go."

"Maybe it wasn't," the man said softly.

"Wasn't what?"

"A mistake. Maybe it was fate," he grinned in the darkness. "I mean...the woman I was supposed to meet with isn't here but you are."

"Sorry to disappoint but I'm not looking to do the dirty in the dark with you," Dani said, picking up her phone. "Besides, you're married."

"So? Aren't you here because you want a baby? I can give you one. Your husband doesn't need to know. Between me and my wife, she's the one with the problem conceiving."

Dani wondered if she had entered the Twilight Zone, "Is this some sort of joke?"

"Not at all. My wife is a bit older than me. You might say she's a cougar. She's rich. I'm handsome, poor, and young. We compliment one another," the man chuckled.

"You know what? Never mind, you stay. I'll go," Dani cringed at the thought of being with this stranger a second longer.

"It's too bad it's so dark. If you could see me...I mean really see me, you might change your mind."

"So you're not just a pervert. You're a narcissistic pervert. I shudder to think what your kids end up like. Your wife sure is lucky," Dani said sarcastically.

"I can't help the truth. Besides, it's not like I want to have kids. Little buggers are expensive."

"You wouldn't be here if you didn't want them," Dani said. "Being here costs a fortune."

She heard the man give off a disgruntled laugh, "That it does. So I might as well get my money's worth and enjoy myself. If your husband has trouble getting the job done, I'm more than happy to share some of my-"

"You're disgusting!" Dani shouted.

"So you've said," Simon replied. "Still my services are always available if you change your mind."

"I should tell his wife," Dani muttered to herself before tripping and falling. She felt his strong hands on her shoulders and arms, helping her up. A light flashed in her face.

"Hey, you're that woman they found here earlier, aren't you?" Simon asked, switching off the flashlight application on his phone.

Dani tugged herself out of his grasp, "Let me go. I have to get back."

"Maybe you were out here waiting for someone too. Are you sure you don't want to take me up on my offer?"

"As if. I don't want children," Dani slapped her hands over her mouth, realizing what she said.

Simon laughed, "I see I'm not the only one being forced to sample the Majestic Waters. So is it your husband that's wanting children? I never understood men that wanted to have kids to leave behind a legacy or some crap like that. Kids are expensive and take up a lot of your time."

"Just because you think that way, doesn't mean everyone else does," Dani argued.

"You just said you didn't want kids. That's surprising. I thought all women wanted a child as a symbol of their love. At least that's what my wife tells me. Molly won't adopt because the baby has to come from her. She wants to experience childbirth."

Dani didn't want to continue listening to Simon. She began walking to her and Jax's cabin. Simon followed and Dani turned around to face him, "Don't follow me."

"I'm not following you. I'm escorting you back to your cabin in case something else happens. Your husband wouldn't like that, now would he?"

"He's not my husband," Dani corrected him. "He's my fiance."

"Thank you for the clarification," Simon smiled and Dani could see his white teeth in the dark. She wondered if he really was as good-looking as he claimed to be. She couldn't see his full face in only the moonlight.

He walked silently beside her until they reached her cabin, "Despite the fact that you ruined my evening, I've brought you back safe and sound. Don't forget you owe me one."

Dani rolled her eyes.

"I'm serious. you owe me a night of excitement. I won't forget it," Simon teased.

"Was one kick in the groin not exciting enough for you? I can do it again," Dani offered.

"No thanks!" Simon turned to go but quickly stopped himself, "Oh and I hope I don't have to remind you that our unexpected meeting should probably be kept a secret."

"Are you afraid I'll tell your wife?"

"She can be a pretty jealous woman. It would behoove us both if you kept our running into each other to yourself."

"I think you should go," Dani said before entering her cabin.

Simon waited in front of Dani's cabin for a few minutes. To him, she was an interesting woman. Naive and feisty which made an interesting combination. He thought about heading back to his cabin before Molly realized he was gone. He turned around to see a woman dressed in a black silk robe and flip-flops. Her arms were crossed and her eyes were narrowed in anger.

"Molly! What are you doing here?" Simon asked, his voice quivering in surprise.

"I should ask you the same thing, husband. Who is she? Is she next?"

"It's not what it looks like," Simon said defensively. "I couldn't sleep so I went to the lake and that's where I saw her. She had been sleepwalking. She was going to walk into the lake. I practically saved her life," Simon lied.

"Is that so?" Molly said tightly. "My husband- the lifesaver." Her voice didn't sound complimentary.

Simon walked past her, "She was the woman they found by the lake earlier. What was her name? Dani. Dani Deleon I think it was. Strange how she was by the lake again, right?" He walked past his wife without stopping.

"Strange indeed," Molly muttered. Simon had already entered their cabin but Molly was still outside. "You remembered her name after hearing it once?" Molly turned to face Dani's cabin. "Dani Deleon," she whispered before biting her lower lip.

"Molly, are you coming in?" Simon's voice interrupted her thoughts as he stuck his head out the door.

"I'll be right there," Molly called out. She licked her lips and tasted blood. "No. It won't happen again. I won't let it," she vowed to herself before taking one last look at Dani's cabin and frowning.
