(Written for The_Weekend_Write-In prompt for this week - shake. Just a small piece that popped into mind when I read the prompt)

One of the casualties of Covid has been the handshake, and the other day, I heard a radio program discussing whether listeners thought the handshake would ever come back. I was surprised how many people called in to say that, Covid or not, they were happy to forgo handshaking for good. Mostly it was a result of all the hygiene advice, not to mention the fact that unless you have seen the sanitizer being used with your own eyes, you don't know where that hand has just been!

Although I can see their point, I remember the handshake as a small symbol of women's empowerment back in the 1980s. In Australian culture before then, handshaking was very much a male thing, especially when meeting strangers. Women would simply smile. It was a new step when women began to insist on a firm handshake as well as their male colleagues.

An elbow bump is not the same, lol, nor as dignified!
