Chapter 18

When the lights dropped, I moved fast. The guards on the shore would be adjusting to a lack of light, and their eyes wouldn't be as sensitive. As for me, I had the night vision goggles, and I made it to the next two boats in under 10 seconds. I cleared the first quickly, as it was empty. The second was right next to it, and I was able to slip over to it without being in the open. It had a sleeping man, but no girls, and a quick knife to the neck ended his life.

Three unarmed bodies already, and I hadn't even gotten to the guards. This night wasn't going to make me feel better about myself.

I peeked my head over the gunwale of the last boat and saw the two marina guards talking near the entrance to the club. The layout that I'd seen had shown three floors, plus a garage below ground. The back of the building near the guards was all glass, and there was a nice garden between the shoreline and them. I wasn't shocked by the lack of a pool, as they weren't going to have the girls out here sunning themselves, and the main thing for the members to do here is to be inside with the kidnapped girls.

I didn't see any lights beyond the glass, which was a good sign. Any guards in there would hopefully be using flashlights, and therefore be visible. I slung the shotgun over my shoulder and pulled out one of the silenced pistols. Getting into a crouch, I raised the pistol and made my way towards the two guards. I'd made it off the pier and onto the grass before one of them looked my way. Even then, he hesitated, and I put my first shot between his eyes with a little pop. The second one hadn't even seen me before his partner was falling, and started to turn towards me when my second shot went through the side of his head with another pop. It sounded loud to me, but it wasn't as bad in the open air.

I knelt next to them, seeing AR-15s and 9mm pistols on them for weapons. That might come in handy later, but for now I was in good shape for weapons and ammo. The best observation was that neither were wearing any bulletproof vests or other armor. I was happy that I didn't have to count on head shots, the body was much easier to hit. I took both security badges from them, putting one into my pocket, and the other clipping to my belt and using it to get into the building. I still had the one I'd got from the hotel, but I had a feeling it would have been deactivated.

"Joe, I'm in."

"We're watching. We have a satellite overhead. There are 4 guards out front, but none reacted to your shots. We don't have thermal on the interior, but we stole their cams. So far, they're not panicking, so they're assuming everything is a part of the local power outage, but that will change. It looks like an additional 18 guards on site, most of which are either in the cellar getting auxiliary power on or in security. They have backup generators that will be up in a few minutes, so you should be prepared. You're looking clean so far. Security is straight ahead of you, and we can unlock all the doors, so you don't need the key cards if you prefer.

"Yeah, I have a pair of cards, but I'd prefer to just not deal with them. How many are straight ahead?

"If you head straight there are 6 in security, 5 downstairs. I told you about the 4 out front, and there 3 mobile on the second floor."

"Okay, I'll take out security first. Anything else?"

"That's it for now, but there is a ton of data to go over, so I'll let you know if we find more."

"Do you know how many guests are on the second floor?"

"Looks like 8 rooms occupied by a total of 13 people," he replied. "None of the girls are down there in those rooms, so that is good. They have cameras in the guest rooms, so they probably tape members as backup blackmail."

I holstered the pistol and unslung the shotgun. It was about to get very noisy, but if there was a group of guards, this was the way to put them down fast. I put the shotgun on my shoulder, flipped the safety off and moved towards the doorway to security. I listened at the door and heard a lot of conversation and yelling on the other side. They were obviously not well prepared for an emergency. If they never drill for them, they only know them by reading what to do, which is never enough.

"Damnit! We need cameras and lights! Hurry up! Get everyone checking in every 2 minutes!" someone commanded. "I don't care if power is out, we should be able to handle this! Dean, go check on Wes and Landon!"

Well, that sounded promising, they'd be opening the door for me! I took half a step back, aiming at the center of the door and bracing myself in my standing firing position. A heavyset man, the soon to be deceased Dean I assumed, opened the door while adjusting his belt, and I pulled the trigger.

The automatic shotgun is a brutal weapon. The barrel is shorter than a normal shotgun, so the effective range isn't very far. I wouldn't use it in the jungle, or for a city firefight. But in close quarters like a building, there is nothing like it. Holding the trigger down, the rate of fire is 300 rounds per minute. Considering there are only 20 shells in the drum, that means you're out of ammo in just over 5 seconds. Obviously, you don't need to hold it down, but it means that you can fire devastating bursts, like I just did. Just pulling the trigger for a fraction of a second, I fired a pair of 12 gauge shotgun slugs into Dean's chest, tossing him backwards like a ragdoll, and making every man in the security room flinch as they turned to watch me stalk into the room. It wasn't a fair fight. I was in body armor and ready, while they were in shock and didn't have any weapon that could get through the armor.

I didn't give them a chance to take stock of the situation, and the gun kept spitting lead at them. There were 4 men dead or dying before one of them got their weapon up to do something useful. But his movement drew my eye, and in seconds his blood was splattered all over the computer monitors behind him. I felt an impact on the side of my helmet, spinning me around with the force of it, and turned to my right, seeing the last guy firing his pistol at me. Another pull of the trigger, and I punched three holes in his torso. With the gunfire over, the room was filled with acrid smoke, and the moans of the wounded. Considering I'd put at least two slugs into each torso, none of the wounded would remain alive for long.

"Security taken care of," I reported to Joe while changing out the ammo drum on the shotgun. "I'm heading upstairs to the third floor."

"Noted. Be careful! The guards heard that gunfire for sure."

With the power out, the easiest way to go up and down was the stairway right next to the security office, and I walked carefully up it. Yes, I moved quickly, but I also knew there were three armed guards up there, and individual guests might have their own personal weapons with them. The stairwell wasn't anything special, just a standard concrete set up with stairs heading up and down. The garage was going to have to wait though, I knew the girls were upstairs, and they were my primary concern.

When I passed the second floor, I listened at the door again, and heard a lot of yelling. Some of it seemed quite confused, and I grinned at the panic that I'd started to spread among them. Deciding to add to the confusion and fear, I pulled open the door. It opened into a hallway running off to my left and right, but there was a door directly across from me where a potbellied man was buttoning up his shirt while looking very aggravated. I didn't need to aim from this range, I just fired a single shot into his gut, and he was thrown backwards into his room. I stepped out, seeing men in both directions ducking now.

I held down the trigger to the left, sending a hail of slugs, before turning back to the right and doing the same. I didn't hit everyone, but I could see enough blood to know that I hit a few. That would slow them down and discourage pursuit at least! I stepped back into the door, changing out the ammo drum again, and then raced up the stairs.

I raced onto the 3rd floor to find it deserted. There were no guards, and all the girls were locked in their rooms, so I'd have to get them out. Hopefully, the firing on the floor below meant that it would slow any of the guards down there from coming up. The lights were still off, so I had no idea what the guards in the basement were doing, but the continued darkness was a blessing.

With no time to waste, I pulled out one of my pistols and shot the lock off the first door. The room was bare bones, just two metal bunk beds with mattresses on them, each containing a naked girl, only one of whom even looked blearily up at me before she put her head back on the pillow. The other 3 just stayed out of it, like Lexie and Bella had when we first found them. Fuck, this wasn't going to work.

"Joe, this is bad. The girls here aren't in good shape, I'll need help getting them out. There are 4 girls in a room, and over 10 rooms, so there could be at least 40 here. I think I'm better off just eliminating anyone that can hurt them, and then we all carry them," I explained over the comm link.

Joe was silent for a moment, then spoke up. "Do that. The second floor is all that is left, I'll explain what happened when we're done. I'll be joining you shortly, but if you can get the girls from the boat, we can work faster."

"I'm on it."

I pulled out my phone and dialed up Willow. "Jesse? Are you okay?"

"I'm fine. I need help though. Can you get the two girls off the floating boat, and then tie up at the pier? We need help getting the girls out of the rooms, they're too far gone."

"Yes! We'll help! Be safe!"

With a grim smile that nobody else could see, I pulled back out the shotgun, and marched back down the stairs to the second floor. It was going to be a bloodbath.
