Vines

The young girl ran as fast as could up the mountain, tears streaming down her cheeks as she tried to ignore the shouting men that followed her. Why did her mother have to blame HER for her own sin. She killed her father, so why couldn't she just say it?! She hated her mother for that sin, and she would never forgive her for it-

She slipped, nearly falling back down the mountain if not for a lone tree that had stopped her fall. The masculine voices were closer now, she had to keep running. She quickly found her footing and began to run, chest heaving, tears still flowing. She couldn't find it in herself to wipe them away. It would just cost her time. She couldn't go back to that asylum again... Not again. It was scary for her there, too many people. Those that had killed, people that talked to the air, people always covered in blood! She couldn't stand it!

She wasn't meant to be there, she just wasn't! That stupid mother of hers forced her in there after her father was murdered because she was supposedly the one that killed him. She wasn't, she and her mother both knew that, but the court thought it was insanity that forced her to kill him. She would never hurt him... Never in a million years.

She could barely hear the voices anymore, though that didn't stop her. She simply continued to run until she found herself in a large cavern. A cave, maybe? She couldn't tell due to how dark it was, but the only things she knew for sure was that she could rest there, and that she had finally lost the guards of the asylum. Silently thanking any God that may be out there, she looked around, seeing only that there were a lot of vines covering the walls and the floor. She could also barely see a ring of buttercups. It confused her, but she didn't think much about it. Maybe someone just really liked buttercups.

She looked back at the cave's entrance, looking at the many stars that dotted the pitch black sky. She sighed, feeling her soul become calm at the peaceful sight that reminded her so much of her father... But the peace didn't last very long. She soon heard the loud voices of those guards she was sure she had ditched. She mentally punched herself for falling under life's illusion of peace. It was so anticlimactic that they would find her.

She ran around the cave, feeling the walls for a secret entrance. She wasn't paying too much attention to the ground, and didn't see one of the vines slithering towards her until it had wrapped tightly around her ankle. She screeched loudly, looking at her foot and seeing the vine. She moved to pull it off, but the vine jerked quickly, forcing her across the ground towards the ring of buttercups. She screamed in pain and fear, feeling the sharp thorns on the vine piercing her sensitive flesh. Once she felt her feet leave solid ground, she knew that there was a large hole in the ring of buttercups. She could do nothing but scream and try to resist as her body was dragged into the hole. Soon she had been swallowed by the darkness of nighttime, and was never seen again, no one knowing what had happened to the poor insane child that murdered her father.
