Here We Go Again
Brooklyn's POV
I paced back and fourth backstage as everyone warmed up, stanched, or got hyped up for the show. Everyone was so excited that the show was finally opening up.
But me?
I was a nervous wreck!
As I always am!
I looked down at my costume for the millionth time. I was wearing light blue converse and shorts with a that all most looked like the one form the movie. Only this one had a few dots on it. and a sweater just for the opening scene. My hair was curled and in a half up dew with a braid in the back. My makeup was typical natural stage makeup and my mic was all set to go.
I was wearing the little anklet Nick had given him way back when. I always wear it when I'm on stage. It doesn't matter what or where it is, it just calms me down. In the middle of my thoughts I looked down at the engagement ring on my finger, I started playing with it and soon my mind left the thought of opening night and wandered to the rest of my life.
Pretty soon I'll be Brooklyn Flaherty. I'll probably still sign my name as Brooklyn Masson, seeing as that's where all my performing credibility is. But just the thought of it makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.
What will the future hold? If we have kids what will they look like? I was pulled out of my thoughts when I felt two strong arms wrap around my waist, a soft, loving kiss pressed onto my cheek, and a tender voice whispered into my ear, "How's my lovely bride to be doing on this fine night?"
"Ready to get a cab and actually go to Brooklyn," I replied while turning around. "I'm scared Skybelle," I said while looking into his eyes. "This has been my dream since I first saw the movie. I'm scared that I'll mess up."
"You'll be amazing Fun Size," he said while moving his hands up to my shoulders. He had a soft, yet firm grip that made me feel safe. "You've worked hard and you've earned this more than anyone. Stop stressing and you'll be just fine."
"Easy for you to say," I replied. "You've done opening night before. I've only done closing night."
Sky smiled softly before pulling me into a tight hug. "You'll be just fine Fun Size. I know you can do this. I believe in you. You just have to believe in yourself."
I hate to say it, but he's right.
It's hard though. When I was on tour I was mostly in the background or behind someone. I barley had anything speaking lines and I always had someone out there with me on stage. But now? Now I'll be front and center leading the whole thing. Sure I did that as Katherine but it wasn't opening night! That's completely different!
Before I could say anything the places were being called. Sky gave me one more tight squeeze before letting me go. I smiled at him before walking onto stage. Nick gave me a pat on the back as I walked past him and Morgan smiled at me. I smiled and nodded at both of them before taking a deep breath and walked onto stage while singing
I have a dream
A song to sing
To help me cope
With anything
If you see the wonder
Of a fairy tale
You can take the future
Even if you fail
I believe in angels
Something good in everything I see
I believe in angels
When I know the time is right for me
I'll cross the stream
I have a dream
"Even if you fail." I took a deep breath as I looked out into the audience before looking down at the letters as I said, "Sam Carmichael. Bill Anderson. And Harry Bright." I put them into the mail box before continuing to sing as I walked across the stage slowly.
I have a dream
A fantasy
To help me through reality
And my destination
Makes it worth the while
Pushing through the darkness
Still another mile
I believe in angels
Something good in everything I see
I believe in angels
When I know the time is right for me
I'll cross the stream
I have a dream
I'll cross the stream
I have a dream
______
I had a huge smile on my face as I took my opening night bow. I looked around the audience with a huge smile on my face as the whole cast took a bow together.
The opening night speech was made and after it was over we were all free to go. Nick, Sky, Morgan and I all stared doing the little tap section form King of New York. The part where Katherine leads all the boys in the Pyramid formation before running off stage.
And I wasn't going to lie I was about to collapsed right then and there before Sky picked me up and spun me around while saying, "you were amazing!"
"Sky I need to breath!" I said. He quickly put me back down on the ground before kissing me on the cheek. "You were amazing too. All of you were!"
"And just think, tomorrow we can all sleep in!" Nick exclaimed.
"And by sleep you mean make out with Dylan till you pass out now that I'm not living there anymore," I said before laughing at Nick's very annoyed face.
"How about brunch with your parents."
"and sister!"
Nick and I tuned around and sure enough our parents, and Kate were here. We both ran up to them and had a group hug. "I didn't know you guys were here!" I said while pulling back.
"That's the whole point," my dad said with a smirk.
"My babies are a grown up," my mom said with a proud smile.
"Mom, we've been grown ups for two years now," Nick said deadpanned. I snickered at what he said, which earned an eye roll. But I didn't care.
"What's this about brunch?" I asked changing the subject.
"Tomorrow morning?" My mom asked. "Sky and Dylan can come too," she said while looking over my shoulder. She smiled at Sky and gestured for him and Morgan to come over.
"Ok sounds perfect," I said happily. I felt Sky wrap his arm around my waist with a big smile.
"Hi Mr. and Mrs Masson," Sky said happily.
"It's nice to see you again," Morgan added. We started talking more and the next thing I knew Sky and I were settling into bed for the night.
_______
"Sky stop panicking," I said while watching trying to pick out the right shirt. "It's just a simple brunch with my family and Dylan," I said with a sigh. I was sitting on the bed while Sky was busy digging through the draws.
"Simple brunch with your family?" Sky asked while turning to face me. "If this goes wrong your parents will be down my back for life! And may I remind you who they're giving you away too? Me, that's who! Brooklyn," he said while taking both my hands into his. "This is probably the most important moment in our life. If this goes well then it's a happy care free married life. If it isn't well...let's just say holidays at your family's place will be hell!"
"Sky, stop stressing," I said sweetly. "You'll be fine." I brushed my hand onto his cheek, went down his jawline to lift up his face just enough as I said, "Now go put on a shirt cause you are not going without one."
"Ok baby girl," he said before kissing my cheek. It took awhile, but he finally picked out a simple black shirt that had a collar. "How's this?" He asked while turning back to me.
"Perfect," I said with a smile. We both finished getting ready before heading out to the car. As he was driving I noticed Sky was taping his finger to the beat of what I guessed was King of New York. Which is something I've noticed he does when he's Nervous. "You've met my family before," I reminded.
"That was different," he said while keeping his eyes on the road. "You weren't there, and it was just a quick introduction and after that I completely spaced out. I was tried after doing a show for the record FYI."
"Then stop stressing," I said. "I'm marrying you no matter what my parents think of you. But you're still putting on a good impression." Sky laughed abs rolled his eyes. Good to see normal Sky is still in there.
Soon enough we got to the place where we wee meeting my family and Dylan for brunch. "And you say I'm a slow poke," Nick joked as I stepped out of the car.
"You can blame he redhead for me being late," I said while gesturing to Sky. "If it were me I'd probably be here before you," I said with a smirk.
"Actually we just got here too," Dylan said with a smile. "And I still can't believe you're getting married!" She exclaimed.
"Dylan, you were there when I picked out the ring," Sky said deadpanned. He hen turned to me and said, "She screamed in my ear when I asked her to come." I laughed as shook my head. Of course that happened. I wouldn't be surprised if he needs a hearing aid now.
"Where's the rest of the family I asked.
"In side getting a table," Nick replied just as Kate came out and said the table was ready. We went in and sat down. It was a cozy place and there weren't many people there so that was good.
After ordering some drinks came the question I was hoping wouldn't be asked. "So, when do you plan to have the wedding," my mom asked. Sky and I looked at each other with the same confused face.
"Well, we have to work around the show's schedule, and use most of our days off to plan," I started.
"Maybe you should have the wedding on your day off," Kate suggested.
"Two day shows before day off," Sky replied. "And then there's the early morning rehearsal."
"And the late night show," I added.
"Stage dooring."
"And getting enough sleep in between," we both said at the same time.
"Sounds like you two have a lot on your plate," dad said before taking a sip of his coffee. "Are you sure you can plan wedding and work at the same time?"
"We'll have too," I replied.
"What about a summer wedding," Sky said out of no where. "Think about it Fun Size. A outdoor wedding-"
"Sky outdoor weddings are tough. You can never depend on the weather," I said.
"Maybe. But there's also a chance that we'll-"
"Kiss in the pouring rain," Dylan sang with a smirk.
"I like how you think," Sky said while pointing at Dylan.
"Is that a tattoo?" My dad asked, taking the subject completely off the tracks. Oh boy My dad has never been fond of tattoos, so I can see that this isn't going in the right direction. I can't believe I completely forgot about that tint detail. This should go well....not.
"Yes sir it is," Sky said proudly.
"Brooklyn, you know how I feel about-"
"I didn't know till recently," I cut off.
"I have tattoos and you've never given me a problem before," Nick said casually.
"You what?" Dad asked while looking at Nick.
"Nothing," Nick quickly replied. Way to good ya butthead. Yep, Nick got inked a few months ago. And no, it's nothing dumb, I made sure of that. And he made me swear to not tell our parents. Kate knew, but she actually figured it out so...yeah this really isn't going to end will since Sky is thinking about getting another one.
Needless to say things went down pretty quickly. Kinda, ish. How far along the line is one's day talking about how tattoos are bad for the body and shit. My mom took my dad out for some air and I was busy rubbing my temples. Hoping this headache would go away.
After that my mom cane in saying they were going back to the hotel. Kate went with Nick and Dylan while Sky and I went back home. The second I stepped inside I went to our room and got into some pj shorts, threw on one of Sky's shirts and put my hair up in a ponytail before wiping off my makeup.
It felt good to be in the safe of the apartment. I laid and bed and thought about that morning and how it could've gone a lot better. I looked at the little ring on my finger and sighed, this was going to be the rest of my life. My dad hates Sky all because of a stupid little tattoo. Well guess what? I don't care what my dad thinks. I'm twenty and I can make my own choices.
That's when I quietly started to sing.
'Cause I love the gap between your teeth,
And I love the riddles that you speak,
And any snide remarks from my father about your tattoos will be ignored,
'Cause my heart is yours.
So don't you worry your pretty little mind,
People throw rocks at things that shine,
And life makes love look hard,
And don't you worry your pretty little mind,
People throw rocks at things that shine,
But they can't take what's ours,
They can't take what's ours,
The stakes are high,
The water's rough,
But this love is ours.
"Have I ever told you how much I love hearing you sing?" I sat up and sure enough it was Sky. He was leaning a shoulder on the doorframe with crosses arms and a smirk across his face.
"How long have you been standing there?" I asked shyly as he walked over to the bed.
"Just long enough," he replied while brushing away some of my hair.
"Sorry about my dad," I said. "I completely forgot how he feels about you know."
"I should've expected," he said with a sigh. "But like you just sang, this love is ours." I smiled before looking down and took one of his hands into mind, I let my other hand brush onto his wrist and before I knew in I'm letting my fingers trace over the black ink on his skin. Oddly enough it seemed to calm me down for some off reason. Sky never seemed to mind at all, I think it calms him down too.
"When should we start planning the wedding?" I asked while keeping my eyes on what I was doing.
"Soon," Sky replied. "I want you to be mine ASAP."
"I'm already yours," I said with a small laugh while looking up.
"I want you off the market before someone else sweeps you off your feet."
"Like what I just sang moments ago. My heart is yours," I said with a smile.
"You're the best thing that's ever been mine," Sky replied with that dorky smile.
"Great, you're doing it too." but I could careless that Sky was quoting Taylor Swift songs too, it was kinda cute, and it made him look more like a dork than he already was. And if it wasn't clear enough, I'll say it again. I could careless that my dad doesn't approve of Sky's tattoo. It's what on the inside that counts, not the inside. But I'll admit, Sky being cute is a plus. What can I say? I have a thing for dorky redheads.
"Anyways, you hungry? Cause I got a frozen pizza in the oven." when I nodded my head Sky gave me a quick kiss on the lips before getting off of the bed to go check on the pizza. Before he went out the door he turned around and said, "You look so hot in my shirt. But it would look better on the floor," he said with a wink.
"SKY!" I yelled while throwing a pillow at him
"Worth it," he said before walking out of the room. I rolled my eyes and shook my head while wondering who would be quicker to kill Sky. My dad or Nick? "How about I make some popcorn, you pick out whatever movie you want, and we can cuddle on the couch. While I steal a kiss or two off your pretty face," he said as a smirk turned up on his lips.
"What am I going to do with you?" I asked while shaking my head. Sky just laughed before stealing a quick kiss. But I pushed him away playfully, and ignored the hurt look on his face because I could see in his eyes he was enjoying every second. "Seriously, what am I going to do with you?" I asked while throwing a pillow at him.
"You love me and you know it," he teased with a smirk before leaving to make the popcorn. I laughed one more time before hoping off the bed and went into the main room. I took a sharp left and plopped on the couch with a little bounce. I grabbed the remote and started channel surfing while quietly laughing at Sky talking to himself when he couldn't find the popcorn bags. I turned around on the couch so now I was kneeling and asked, "Having a little trouble Baby-" I was cut off by three knocks. "I got it!" I said.
"Not without pants you're not," Sky said in a warning tone.
"Sky," I whined. "This is your shirt!"
"And I don't care," he said while walking over to the door. "What if it's that annoying guy who lives in the apartment above us? You know, the one who gets all touchy with girls in the elevator?"
"What if it's that annoying blonde girl who's always flirting with you!" I spat. "You know the one who knows you're taken, but doesn't give a shit about it."
"I didn't even know she was flirting with me!" Sky yelled while throwing his hands in the air. "You're the only girl I ever notice! Even with no makeup, messy hair, and my shirt you still look gorgeous."
Just then I heard a voice say from behind the door, "What'd I tell you dad? Sky's the perfect guy for Brooklyn." there was a quick gagging sound before I heard the person who I guessed was my butt head of a brother say, "I never thought those words would come out my mouth. That doesn't mean I still approve of Brook getting married at twenty."
"Nick, you've never approved of any guys who so much look at Brook," who I guessed was Kate.
"Like father like son," I heard my mom say.
"At least I'm here," dad said. I then got up from the couch and opened the door since Sky looked completely lost at the moment, and sure enough my family was here.
"What're you guys doing here?" I asked once the door was opened.
"Nick is showing me around New York," Kate replied with a smile.
"If I'm going against my will, you're coming too sister," Nick replied as he leaned on the doorframe.
"And I wanted to talk to the leprechaun," dad said while glaring at Sky. Nick chocked out a small laugh, and I had to wonder what that was about. I saw Sky's face go blank and I could just tell that he was having a flashback moment. Yeah that's not weird at all. Anyways, dad looked at me and said, "Alone."
"This is why Kate wants to see New York, isn't it?" I asked. "Do I need to remind you what happened at the grocery store?"
"What happened?" Sky asked.
"Dad and Nick scared a boy off when they thought he was checking me out-"
"He was!" both Masson men spat.
"The poor kid just wanted the white bread, which I was standing in front of!" I yelled back.
"Don't worry sweetie," dad reassured. "I won't hurt Ski."
"Sky," everyone (besides dad) said. By this point everyone had walked into the apartment, and I was still in nothing but Sky's t-shirt. Lucky for me it brushed the top of my knees, so I was good.
"Right, I won't hurt Sky. Your mother will be here to make sure of that." yeah, that makes me feel a lot better. Dad is going to be alone with my fiancé with only mom to keep him calm. When has that ever worked?
"Summer of 2012, age sixteen," I said. Shit, I wasn't supposed to say that. Well, I guess it's too late to go back now. "Kate was out with her friends, Nick was sick in bed. Mom was helping me putting the finishing touches on my hair while I did my make up when I heard the doorbell ring. But I wasn't ready yet, so mom went downstairs to stall while I finished up. By the time I went down there I saw my date walk out, but before he did he said, "I wouldn't date her if she was the last girl on earth."
"Oh yeah," Nick said. "I snuck out my bedroom window to go I punched the sucker good, and gave him a cold at the same time, which wasn't even planned."
"Anyways, I wanted to talk to-"
"Sky!" everyone yelled.
"Right," dad said. "You go have fun with your sister and brother, while your mother and I talk to Sky." I knew there would be no use in arguing. So I went into our room and threw on so pants, grabbed my things and headed out with Kate and Nick. But not before telling Sky there was nothing to worry about, and then told my dad not to bruise Sky's face since he has a show to the following night. With that being said I left with Kate and Nick, while hoping that dad doesn't scare Sky away.
Sky's POV
Not going to lie, I was very nervous about having a talk with Mr.Masson. Sure, we've talked before, and I had asked for his blessing to marry his daughter. Nick and I took a little trip to New Hampshire just because I wanted to do this all the right way, and not over a phone call, or FaceTime. So, why was I so nervous now, probably because Mr.Masson didn't have it out for me when I asked, and yes, he didn't know about the tattoo since my wrist was covered by the jacket I was wearing. Clam down Sky, you've been through more stressfully things than this.
"So, what do you want to talk about?" stop sounding stop stupid! It's Brooklyn he wants to talk about!
"It's about Brooklyn." yeah, no kidding. Mr.Masson started to pace back and fourth as he said, "As you already know she has a few health problems, depression and anxiety, just to name a few. She's been through a lot. Heart breaks, bullying, being compared to Nick. It really hit her hard. Seems like it was always one problem after another when she was born. You're probably expecting a talk about how if you hurt her I hurt you type of thing. But I'm pretty sure Nick already gives you enough trouble about that. That doesn't mean you're off the hook. You see-"
"What my husband is trying to say," Mrs.Masson cut off. She placed a gentle hand on my forearm as she said, "Ever since Brooklyn was born, she's been through a lot. But, when she met you, all that changed. I remember the day she called me about the news. Her voice was so full of happiness and joy. Usually her voice was flat and simple. Her smile and eyes were still bright, but that spark was missing. When she met you that all changed. Brook may not say this out loud, but you gave her something to believe in. And I'm not just saying that to sound like the cheesy mother. It's true. And both of us can't want to call you our son."
Well I didn't expect that. Sure, I knew about Brook's past, but the way her mother put it, it just made me feel even that luckier that I get to say that Brooklyn Lucia Masson is going to my wife soon.
"I may not like that ink on your wrist," Mr.Masson started. "But, I can tell my daughter sees something in you. Otherwise this wouldn't be happening, and I know I already said this, but, I give you my blessing to marry my daughter again."
"Thank you Sir," I said with a smile on my face.
