Better When I'm Dancing
(I got my computer back a few days ago. And I hope you enjoy this chapter)
Brooklyn's POV
"Did you get the part!?" Nick and Dylan screamed at the top of their lungs as I sat down. Yep, today was the day we got the calls on who is going to be in Mamma Mia on Broadway.
"Are you guys nosey?" I asked.
"We're not nosey ," Dylan retorted. "I just want to know everything that's going on in my bestie's life."
"If you must know I did," I replied. I'm not going to talk about the part where the two dummies started yelling and screaming at the top of their lungs. I sat on the couch as I watched with a smile on my face. Don't get me wrong I'm more than happy to be getting my dream role. But my mind is somewhere else.
When my phone started ringing I picked it up to see it was a video call form Alex and Fallon. "Did you get the part?" They both yelled before I could say anything.
"I would tell you but I think Nick and Dylan's yelling is enough," I replied with a small laugh. Before anything else was said Julia and Zoey joined in on the call.
"For once I am glad that Josh can't keep his moth shut!" Julia said. "I'll give you one guess who's playing you're love interest!"
"My two timing ex-boyfriend?" I asked deadpanned. Honestly I'm not surprised. I'll admit Sky was pretty good during the auditions. It almost felt like nothing even changed between us. But, it was just acting and I would never date someone who two timed me again.
"Logan Williams," Zoey yelled.
"What!?" Me, the girls and Nick all yelled at the very same time. We were so loud that I'm pretty sure ole Mrs.Tam is on her way to tell us kids to shut up and do homework.
"I didn't even know Logan auditioned!" I exclaimed. "I didn't see him at the-"
"Well he was!" Ales snapped. "and for some dumb reason he's playing Sky and you're playing Sophie and-"
"And I really wish that your ex-boyfriend got the part!" Nick cut off.
"Please, Logan's a upgrade form....Logan's gonna be playing my love interest," I said quietly. "I wonder if he's a good kisser."
"Brooklyn!" Nick yelled.
"If it makes you feel better Nicky, Sky is Logan's understudy." well, there goes that chance of acting like I don't know Sky. Sometimes I wonder if I had just stayed away after that stupid dream. Yes, I still think of that time to time. I shouldn't have gone on that tour. Then none of this would be happening. No boy troubles, just dumb old me dreaming what being loved is like.
"I don't know how I feel about this," Dylan said as she started to pace back and fourth. "On one hand you aren't kissing Sky. on the other hand, Logan is your first crush. But on another I'm almost sure Sky still has feelings for you."
"You know Dylan. You're right," I said in a sweet tone. "Sky as in the person who ditched me for his ex-girlfriend still has feelings for me!" I yelled.
"You know the saying. Love will make you do stupid things," Dylan replied.
"Well he sure has a funny way of showing it!" I snapped. It seems like I'm the only one who accepted the fact that Sky and I are over! We haven't seen each since the tour ended - until now that is. Oh now everything is getting messed up and I'm stuck in the middle. As always.
I looked at Dylan, Nick, then at the video call with the other girls before saying, "I'm going on a walk!" I hung up the phone, grabbed my stuff and headed out to clear out my head. I walked to the nearest park and sat down on the bench. I'm so happy that I got the role of Sophie. I really am.
But the problem is the person who plays my love interest. Logan's great. But he always ignored me. Sky, he cheated on me, and everything is just so messed up that it's not funny.
"Hey there," a voice said. Please don't be Sky, please don't be Sky. I looked up and saw a boy about my age. Tall, with dark hair and brown eyes. "Can I sit?" he asked.
"Sure," I replied quietly. He nodded with a smile as he sat down.
"It's a nice day in New York," he commented. "And it just got a hold lot nicer."
"You better stop while you're ahead," I said in a warning tone. I've seen this kids type too. The low key flirt. Thinks he can make me weak in the knees. Well, I am not that kind of girl! Never have been and never will be.
"You're a feisty little one," he said.
"And you don't know when to stop," I replied before getting up and walked away. At least I tried too. But this boy followed me. "Before you ask I am not giving you my number. Or going to get coffee with you or anything really."
"The name's Chase."
"Of course it is," I spat. Wait, Chase? Really?
Sky's POV
"So, you're telling me that this Logan kid is Brook's first crush?" I asked slowly.
"That's what Zoe and Julia said," Josh replied.
"And this Logan kid, was almost in Mamma Mia in high school but got stick."
"Should I call the ear doctor?" Ben asked. Well, I'm not sure what's worse. Knowing Brook is going to be kissing her crush, or me having to watch my ex-girlfriend kiss her crush. It's harder to watch then is sounds so cut me some slack.
"You say you're over Brooklyn," Josh said with a sigh. "But here you are. Going on and on about her like you still have feelings for her."
"Such a sad sight," Ben added. "A boy who's still in love with a girl from the good old days."
"Those good old days on tour. Seeing places, and doing new things." Mamma Mia, here we go again. Ben and Josh looking back on good old times. Might as well make some popcorn and wait it out.
"Now look at us, we're unemployed," Ben said with a sigh.
"We need a new show for-"
"Don't finish that," I cut Josh off.
"Remember when I dragged you, and Chaz, and little Anthony into getting Sky to make a move on Brook by saying I liked her" Ben asked. How could I forget that?
flashback
"Hey Ben I'm at the café but I don't see you anywhere," I said as I looked around. It was a cozy little café. Maybe I'll come by here some other time when I'm not helping Ben with this girl. Who ever she is she must be real something to capture little Benji's heart.
"Yeah, I took a wrong turn." Honestly I'm not surprised that happened. "But until I get there can you maybe sweet talk her for me. Oh and make sure you put out a good impression. I want my best friend and possible girlfriend to get along."
"I think you mean one of your best friend's!" I could've sworn I heard Josh on the other side.
"Is Josh with you?" I asked.
"Sadly," Ben replied.
"If you really want advice don't bring Josh. He'll scare who ever this girl is away," I said with a small laugh.
"Anyways, she's in the right corner table near the window." I looked to where the right corner table was and I saw... "Brooklyn?"
"Thanks again Sky you're the best bye," Ben said quickly before hanging up. I only stood and stared. I didn't know Ben liked Brooklyn. It was then I couldn't go through with this. I was about to walk out when "Hey Sky!"
"Hey Brook," I replied. She gestured for me to come over. I sighed before walking over to the table.
"Sit down," she said. I took a seat and kept my eyes on the ground. What do I do now? Do I put in the good word for Ben, or do I forget about the hole thing? Brooklyn is such a sweet and innocent girl. I'm not sure how she'd take finding out her brother's friend likes her. Then again there's no right reaction to that. The heart wants what it wants. Right?
"So...what're you doing here?" she asked. Shit, this girl jumps right into things doesn't she? What do I do? Do I tell her the truth? Say I'm here to help Ben get a girl? Or do I lie and say I was just getting some fresh air when I saw her in here?
"Just stretching my legs before the show, when I saw you in here," I replied. Ok so it looks like we're going with lying. That always turns out good. Not. Well, hopefully the thing about how girls know when a guy lies right off the bat isn't true.
"Well, then, it's nice to see you too," she replied before looking at the ground for a moment then looked back up through her eyelashes, smiled before looking down again. Not going to lie that was really cute.
"Anyways, about rehearsal today," I said and she groaned. At today's rehearsal a certain someone had to practice kissing Jack. "How was kissing Dan?"
"Is Sky Flaherty jealous that he isn't the only ladies man in the cast?" she asked.
"No," I replied with an eye roll. "Just wondering." then I had to wonder, was I jealous that Ben likes Brook, and at some point on the tour Dan gets to kiss her? There's even the chance that Mike or even Jon gets to kiss her too. Plus if Ben has a crush on her...Sky stop it, Brooklyn can date who ever she wants.
"Ehh." she shrugged. "I know it's Jack and Katherine falling in love. But either way it's still Dan and I doing it. Plus I'm at a height disadvantage. Yes, it looks cute for a short girl and a tall guy to kiss, but it's kinda awkward. On may part at least."
"Well...I'm about Dan's height, so-"
"Keep dreaming Skylar," she cut off. "You're cute and all but not really my type." Wait, did I really just say that? Oh boy, this is going to bite me in the butt.
"You have a type?" I asked with shock. Ok now that I know Brook does have standers maybe that's a good thing. Sky, Ben likes her. Stop flirting! n
"Yes I do," she replied.
"And what prey tell is your type Masson?" I asked with a smirk.
"No red hair," she said seriously. "And nothing can changed my mind."
I was quiet for a moment. But when I saw that look in her eyes I knew she was only teasing. "On a unrelated note. How would I look with blonde hair?" I asked.
"Sky, you're pale as frick," she said seriously. "I think blonde is the wrong way to go. And before you say black, do you want to look like you're a goth. Besides, why do you care about my likes and dislikes in a guy? I'm pretty sure your girlfriend-"
"Oh, I don't have a girlfriend," I replied casually. Then something popped into my mind. "Anyways, I'm pretty sure your boy-"
"I don't have a boyfriend," she cut off. I'm not sure how I feel about this. On one hand she's single, but on the other hand she's single! Sky, seriously you need to stop drooling over Brooklyn! As in your friends sister! Plus Ben likes her.
"How can a girl like you be a single?!" I asked in shock. "You're pretty, and funny, you're smart and amazingly talented."
"That's really sweet of you." Brook smiled. The one that reached up to her eyes and light up her face. Her freckles always seemed to pull everything together somehow and she just looked so...I can't even describe the look on her face that made my heart run laps.
There's something about this girl that I....Sky, stop before you start not only crushing on your friend's sister, but also on your best friends crush.
end of flashback
"And it looks like our research was right."
"What research?" I asked. Ben and Josh looked at each other before trying to make a run for it. But I caught the back of their shirts and asked, "What research?"
"We looked up Brook's sign, and yours, to see if you'd make a good couple. But what it said was not good. We didn't listen of course and it was a hit or miss kind of thing. But that's in the past. You've moved on, Brook hates you." Ben explained quickly.
"You are weak," Josh said slowly while glaring at Ben. "But at least this isn't like Mamma Mia. You know when Donna saw three other guys and got knocked up....and I'll shut up."
I let Ben and Josh go before asking,"Where's the ice cream?"
"You ate it all."
"Ok what about Oreos?" no answer. "Jelly beans? White chocolate?" Ok I'll just drown into some Hallmark movies.
"You are not drowning into Hallmark movies. I can't take the sap anymore," Ben said before I even made a move to the couch.
"Then what can I do?!" I asked while throwing my hands in the air.
"Go Talk to Brooklyn!" Ben and Josh yelled. Yeah that's not happening. Brook hates me for what happened. And I don't blame her. I hate myself too time to time. But it doesn't matter anymore. Brook moved on and now she's going to be kissing her old crush, I'm almost sure there's something going on with her and that Rebel guy. And I get to watch it all. Lucky me.
At least a things can't get any worse.
Brooklyn's POV
Lucky for me no one was at the dance studio. I went into one of the rooms and took off my sweater and hooked my phone up to the loud speaker and looked through my many playlists before clicking the song. As a catchy tune started to play my mind left the real world and went to a place I could always count on.
Don't think about it
Just move your body
Listen to the music
Sing, oh, ey, oh
Just move those left feet
Go ahead, get crazy
Anyone can do it
Sing, oh, ey, oh
The stress left like it was never even there as I let lose. I was completely lost in another world as I danced around the empty studio.
When I spun around I was so shocked to see Nick standing in the doorway that I ended up falling on my butt. "You ok lil sis?" Nick asked as he helped me up.
"First off I'm fine, second You're only older by a minute and a half," I replied as I regained my balance. "And third, what're you doing here!?" I asked as I shoved his shoulder lightly.
"After you stormed out of the apartment I started getting worried. So I asked myself "Nick, where would Brooklyn be when her child hood crush is playing her love interest and ex-boyfriend has come out of no where?" So then I told myself "Knowing Brooklyn, she'd be a the dance studio" and here you are, just as I thought."
"Very deep," I said in a deadpanned tone as I crossed my arms. "And before you ask I am perfectly fine. Nothing to worry about. Just that I'll be kissing my middle school crush and my ex-boyfriend will be there to annoy the shit out of me."
"That was a pretty good combo you did," Nick said changing the subject. Ok if I know my brother I know this is some ploy to get me to talk. "But you should've added this." Nick started to do the same moves I did just moments ago, but with his own little twist.
"Do you need to go to the bathroom cause it sure looked like you did," I said while crossing my arms as I watch him.
"Think you can do better?"
"I am the one with the national titles," I said with a proud smile before doing a quick and simple combo. Before I knew it we were both adding more and more steps with each passing second. And the next thing I knew we were doing our choreography to the song.
It was actually fun getting to do that with Nick. Even if he is a pain in the butt. It was still fun never the less. A little twin moment I should say. Something we haven't really done since forever.
