LILY SLIDE THE LEVER INTO THE DEVICE AND PAUSED, lifting her hands off it in disbelief. "Is it done?" She asked the Doctor.
"It's ready." He confirmed her suspicions and, after she stepped back, took the spot she was once standing. As he did, several Daleks entered the room from all sides and angles. Lily tried to hold back her fear but she still side-stepped herself closer to the Doctor's side. He looked up to directly speak to the still on-screened Emperor, with his hands on the lever. "You really want to think about this, because if I activate the signal, every living creature dies."
The Emperor quickly replied. "I am immortal."
The Doctor sneered. "Do you want to put that to the test?"
"I want to see you become like me. Hail the Doctor, the Great Exterminator."
"I'll do it!" He shouted, gripping the switch.
"Then prove yourself, Doctor." The Emperor challenged. "What are you, coward or killer?"
The Doctor took the time to look over at Lily. She was working on keeping her face as blank as she could so the Emperor was not capable of reading her and using that against the Doctor. But when the Doctor's eyes met her she couldn't help but have them softened. That made the Time Lord exhale. "Coward." He looked back at the screen and let go of the switch. "Any day."
"Mankind will be harvested because of your weakness."
"And what about us?" The Doctor asked right before reaching out his left hand for Lily's right, all while keeping eyes on the Emperor. She smiled and took it, allowing him to lace their fingers together and squeeze tightly. "Are we to become one of your angels?"
The Emperor seemed to laugh. "You are the heathen. You will both be exterminated!"
If the Doctor squeezed Lily's hand any tighter she'd lose blood circulation- but the ginger didn't care. "Maybe it's time."
But before any of the Daleks could advance or raise their blasters, that most beautiful sound in the world to Lily sounded from behind them. They both looked over their shoulders, hands still clasped and witnessed in pure shock as the blue box started materializing in front of them.
"Alert!" One of the Daleks shouted as the TARDIS fully came into view. "TARDIS materializing!"
"You will not escape!" The Emperor called out.
When the TARDIS doors flung open, Lily and the Doctor had to shield their eyes when a bright golden light streamed out. When Rose appeared before them out of thin air the sight of her sent them to the floor, letting go of one another's hands. "Rose?" Lily cried, looking up into her sister's now golden eyes, that replaced her normal brown.
The Doctor, on the ground with Lily, shouted up at Rose. "What've you done?"
She looked down at them. "I looked into the TARDIS." Her voice was her sister's but it seemed to echo. "And the TARDIS looked into me."
Lily looked at the Doctor for answers. "You looked into the Time Vortex!" He shouted- Lily remembering the light from Margaret. "Rose, no one's meant to see that."
"This is an abomination!" The Emperor interrupted.
"Exterminate!" A Dalek declared.
Rose turned to the Dalek and raised a hand, which shockingly stopped the beam. "I am the Bad Wolf," Rose announced. "I create myself." With a wave of her hand, the 'BAD WOLF' part of the large sign shifted and vanished into the air. "I take the words, I scatter them in time and space. A message to lead myself here."
Lily understood what was happening without the Doctor's explanations. She saw what that same light did to Margaret. "Rose, you need to stop," Lily begged as Rose's golden irises met hers. "The entire vortex is in your head- you'll die!"
Rose's eyes dimmed down, tears staining her cheeks. "But I want you both safe, my Lily and my Doctor." She choked out. "Protected from the false god."
"You cannot hurt me!" The Emperor protested. "I am immortal!"
"You are tiny!" Rose spatted. "I can see the whole of time and space." She raised a hand to a nearby Dalek. "Every single atom of your existence and I divide them." The Dalek vanished in a bright glow of light. She growled. "Everything must come to dust- all things." Rose started to glow brighter. Daleks disappeared around the room in the same way as the first. "Everything dies. The Time War ends."
"I will not die." The Emperor cried as he began to disintegrate. "I cannot die!" Not long after the screen cut off and all the Daleks vanished. Lily and the Doctor shared a look, understanding Rose had just killed them, ship and all.
Lily slowly got back to her feet, seeing the Doctor do the same in the corner of her eye. "You did it, Ro. You saved everyone." She spoke in an even tone, worried about saying something that could set her off. "Now stop this. Let it go."
"How can I let go of this?" Her voice shook. "I bring life."
It was now the Doctor's turn to try to reason with her. "But this is wrong! You can't control life and death."
"But I can." Rose sobbed, glowing more gold than ever. "The sun and the moon, the day and night. But why do they hurt?" She asked, a crack in her voice.
"The power's going to kill you and it's my fault!"
"I can see everything." Her eyes flashed, shining with pain but she kept going. "All that is, all that was, all that ever could be." Rose's gold eyes, which only seemed to glow brighter, leveled on Lily's. "My sister. I see your future. You're horrifying future." Lily's breath caught in her throat at the Bad Wolf's words. "What you will be. Fear and power reincarnated. The most feared creature in all of the universe." She added with a loud cry. "The Lone Wolf- that's what you are. What you'll become."
Memories came to Lily of the last time she was on this station when it was called 'Satellite Five.' When she and Adam did their fortunes.
Adam rested his elbows on the tabletop and lifted the cookie to his eyesight, examining it. "Can this thing really tell the future?"
Lily shrugged, already tearing open hers. "There's only one way to find out."
Adam grinned and went along with Lily's excitement. "I'll go first." He volunteered himself and broke the cookie in two, taking out a slip of paper. He read. "Your mind will soon be opened in a way you never thought was possible."
"Hey!" Lily gestured around them. "Look at where we are! You're doing that right now."
"Yeah, that's pretty accurate then." He chuckled and nodded to her cookie while popping pieces of his own in his mouth. "You're next."
"Okay," Lily cracked hers in half and put the cookie down on the tray before reading her paper. "In the near future, you will learn the truth of who you are from the mouth of the person you trust the most."
His fortune came true in a way neither of them could have predicted. When Lily heard hers she first shrugged it off as complete nonsense. But now she knew the Bad Wolf only spoke the truth and it was from the mouth of the person she trusted the most- just as the fortune foretold.
Lily became frozen, unable to think or speak, so the Doctor stepped forward. "That's what I see." Lily looked at him and could read him like a book. He was changing the topic. "All the time." He spoke gently to Rose. "And doesn't it drive you mad?"
She let him do so, as what mattered the most was Rose's safety. But she knew for certain that this wouldn't be the last she spoke to him of the Lone Wolf.
"My head." Rose cried, not answering the Doctor's question. "It's killing me."
He took her face between his hands and smiled. "I think you need a Doctor."
When his lips met her forehead, the energy moved from her eyes to his own. And after taking all of it he pulled away from Rose, allowing her to pass out- Lily barely catching her in her arms. She sat on the floor with Rose in her lap and watched the Doctor, his eyes now gold, exhaled out to the TARDIS. The golden streams of life left his mouth and re-entered the TARDIS- its doors closing not long after he was done.
He kneeled down to Lily and Rose, checking the youngest's pulse. Lily watched him carefully, "If that would have killed Rose, does that mean-" She swallowed back the words, not wanting to say them. But the look the Doctor gave her in return was enough to answer her.

- Author's Note -
This episode (The Parting of the Ways) was one of the difficult chapters I had to write for this book.
No, Lily didn't know Rose brought Jack back to life. That's why she has yet to ask about him. The Doctor however did and still left without him- I will never understand why he didn't wait for him in the show?
Next up is the finale! The epilogue! Our journey is about to come to an end 🥹
I love you all soooooo much!!! 🫶🏻

Question of the Day
QOTD ~ What was your favorite outfit Lily wore in this book (Book One) ??
Kayleigh's answer ~ What she wore in this two-parter ('Bad Wolf' and 'The Parting of the Ways') will always be iconic to me as it was the first of her outfits I've ever created. It kinda shaped her style for me. <3
