Chapter 3: Sarah's Gift
(Sarah's POV)
The Dreamers and I were departing from Canterbury for winter break. However, instead of going home, I was flying to Iceland. As a thank you for protecting Finland and Iceland from Landon's attacks, the Nordics invited me to their Winter party. I didn't really know what to expect for their Christmas party, but I was looking forward to it. Perry offered to fly to Iceland in his plane since he was heading home for his Christmas. I was walking around in the baggage claim area gathering my bags when I heard someone shouting my name. I turned to see Denmark running towards me while waving his hands around wildly. I smiled at them.
"Sarah! We are so happy to have you here for Christmas!" Denmark said as he was bouncing up and down.
"Ignore him. How was the flight?" Norway asked calmly.
"It was good. Where is Finland and Sweden?" I asked surprised to not see the other two Nordics here.
"Preparing for Christmas. The two of them have a job to do" Iceland said as he shook my hand.
Denmark took the bags as Norway led us to a car. I sat in the back with Iceland as Norway started the car and Denmark put my bags in the trunk of the car. He sat by Norway as we drove to Iceland's house. It was a while since I was here. The house was small but comfy. It did have a lot of rooms though. When I entered the house, I was very surprised to see Christmas decorations covering every inch of the house! Oh, and Liechtenstein is here too.
"Hey! You made it!" Denmark greeted warmly.
"How did you get away from Austria and Switzerland?" Norway asked amazed.
"Miss Hungary took Austria out on a long date. Germany and Prussia took big brother to a bar" she answered in a proud manner.
I didn't expect this. She approached me warmly and shook my hand. I wonder why she is here? I then noticed Iceland wasn't in the room. Norway sighed as he left the room while Denmark was laughing as he entered the house with my bags. Ah, I understand now.
"So, did Norway ask you to come?" I asked with a smile on my face.
"Yes, but Iceland and I were perfectly fine with spending Christmas alone. Norway insisted I come though" Liechtenstein answered with a knowing smile.
I understood what she meant. Jay couldn't spend time with me every Christmas is because of his family. Speaking of him, I need to get him a gift from here. I hope he likes sharing a lot of chocolate with me.
"Can we please go out for some shopping?" I asked her politely.
"Sure! I know a few cute markets near Iceland's house!" she replied excited.
The two of us departed from the house just as Finland and Sweden entered. The two of them looked very panicked about something. Though, as Liechtenstein was walking in front of me, I gasped in awe. The whole village was decorated with beautiful Christmas themed lights. Everyone was happy and enjoying each other's company.
"So, where would you like to go?" Liechtenstein asked with a smile.
"Are there any shops that sell chocolate?" I asked her.
Liechtenstein nodded as she led me to a Godiva store. I didn't realize this store originated from Belgium's place. I looked at the shelves of the store as I began to search for a perfect gift for Jay. Liechtenstein was buying some chocolate for herself and the Nordics. I saw something in another store across from us. It was a history store. I walked to the store and saw many treasure maps. He would love to have one of these!
"Ah! Do you need help finding something miss?" a kind shop keeper asked me.
"I am looking for a gift for my friend. He loves treasure maps" I explained to him.
He thought about this as he walked towards a shelf. I wasn't sure what he was trying to find. He pulled out a map from the shelf and walked over to me. He gave me the map. He seemed pretty proud of the map he chose.
"What is this?" I asked him.
"That is a map of the location of the Holy Grail. I believe your friend will like this map" he said to me with a kind smile.
"Thank you, sir! How much is this?" I asked him.
"It is a gift" he said as he smiled at me.
I smiled back at him as left the shop. I saw Liechtenstein running towards me. She had a worried expression on her face.
"Sarah! There you are! I was so worried I lost you!" she said quickly.
"I'm sorry. I found a gift for Jay" I answered her.
She clapped her hands in joy. The two of us went back to the Nordics house. It was oddly quiet. We entered the living room and found a crying Finland being comforted by Sweden.
"What happened?!" Liechtenstein asked worriedly as she checked on her friends.
"We were getting the gifts ready for Christmas. However, we came home to ask for some help with the gifts. Norway and Denmark were ready to help us with the gifts. Iceland wasn't too interested in helping, but he has always been like that" Sweden explained, "As we were heading to Finland's workshop, we saw a group of heartless surrounding the presents. Denmark, Norway and Iceland charged into the fight, but then everything was frozen. We decided to flee and wait for you and Liechtenstein to return. Finland was panicked a bit through"
Heartless?! I couldn't believe it... I gazed at Finland. He looked very worried. Christmas was always important to him. I have to help them.
"Alright, let me take a look at the situation" I said to them as I placed the map down.
Finland's expression brightened a bit.
"Just get your weapons. I'll handle the rest" I reassured them.
Everyone seemed ready to fight. We then left for Finland's workshop. The snow was beginning to fall around us as the snow was crunching underneath our feet. I saw the shop and the heartless surrounding it.
"What is this?" Liechtenstein asked as she looked at the heartless.
"I have never seen the heartless act like this before" I answered as I saw the heartless just guarding the area.
"But why do they want to ruin Christmas?" Finland asked worriedly.
Presents. Wait, Oicih recounted a story of how the heartless wanted presents, but this seems a little different. I motioned Sweden and Finland to wait by the sides of the workshop while Liechtenstein and I entered the shop. We both gasped when we saw dark purple chains holding Denmark, Norway, and Iceland! What is this?! Then, I looked up to see a person in a black coat holding them in chains!
"Who are you?!" I asked as I drew my rapier out.
"Someone lost" he answered as he just starred at me.
However, a chain was thrown towards me! I prepared to block the chain, but Liechtenstein pushed me out of the way! I stumbled back as I looked up to seeing her being tied by the chains! She was screaming as the chain began to drain her strengthen! What is this?! I could feel his loneliness. I know that feeling all too well. I ran towards him as I gripped my rapier. I wouldn't let him win!
"Let them go!" I shouted as I slammed my rapier against his chains.
Sparkles flew from the chains, but my attack didn't work! He smacked me away from the chains! I landed on the ground as I heard two more chains coming towards me! I didn't have time to move! However, I heard a window shattering. I looked up and saw Sweden standing in front of me while Finland helped me up! The chains began to drain his strength away!
"Why are you doing this?! Why are you hurting my friends and ruining Christmas?!" Finland asked angrily.
Chains shot out and tied Finland up! He screamed as he fell to his knees!
"I don't know anything! I am missing a piece that everyone has on this holiday! I'm powerful! I'm strong! What is this ach?!" he shouted as he stood up.
I saw everyone losing their strength and will to fight. They were losing their spirit...
"I remember acting like that" Pride said.
I opened my bag as I saw the cup shinning.
I held it in my hands as I asked "What do you mean?"
"When I believed my brother and family were gone, I felt this empty feeling in my heart. Instead, I tried to hide this feeling by making everyone else feel this" Pride answered, "Even the holiday magic didn't work on me"
This person lost someone important to him. I know what I need to do. I gripped the cup and summoned Pride next to me. I grab her hand and squeezed it tightly.
"I know how you feel. Being alone and then not having someone important with you. However, you don't need to be alone" I began as I extended my hand towards him.
The Nordics and Liechtenstein were looking up at us.
"But you do not have to be alone anymore. Locking yourself up and only being by yourself will make you succumb to your weakness" Pride said as she extended her hand towards him.
A yellow light shined over us and our friends. The chains began to disappear!
"What is this?!" Denmark exclaimed as he stood up.
"Is this the power of being together? Is this the power of humility?" Norway asked as he stood up and turned towards us.
He nodded his head as he saw Sweden, Finland, Iceland, and Liechtenstein standing up.
Pride and I spoke softly "It's ok to be lonely, but no one should be alone during the holidays. This the time of year when everyone should be together"
The power of the light grew stronger. Finland understood what I was doing! He ran towards us.
"She's right! You can celebrate Christmas with everyone here!" Finland exclaimed happily.
Sweden walked behind Finland and placed his hand on his shoulder as he said softly "We can be happy together"
Iceland held Liechtenstein's hand as they walked towards me.
"No one deserves to be alone on Christmas or at all!" Liechtenstein said with a warm smile.
"No one needs to be alone. Don't ever wish for something like that" Iceland added as he smiled.
Denmark shouted in joy as he ran towards us "Yeah! We can celebrate together! We have fun together!"
Norway just chuckled as he said "Being with anyone will make that ach in your heart go away"
Everyone had their spirits restored as our power was growing. The man was crying as he tried to walk over to us. He tried to reach for our hands.
"I'll give you the gift of being a whole person" I said as I smiled at him.
He was so close to reaching my hand when a dark corridor opened underneath him! I tried to reach him, but Pride and Denmark held me back! I saw his face... He looked like Terra, but that can't be right.... I sighed as the dark corridor closed. We sat at Finland's workshop, but instead of feeling sad, the Nordics and Liechtenstein embraced me in this warm hug.
"But why?" I asked them.
"You gave us each an important gift! A gift of remembering our friends!" Denmark began as he smiled at us.
I was surprised at that. I turned around and saw the cup on the ground. I picked it up.
"A gift of being with someone we love" Iceland said as he smiled at Liechtenstein.
"A gift of treasuring our times with someone" Sweden said as he patted Finland's shoulder.
"A gift of enjoying our shared joy" Finland exclaimed.
"A gift of being with family" Norway said as he patted Iceland's back.
I didn't believe I did this. I was crying in front of them. They smiled at me as I hugged them back. A gift from just being together was the most powerful gift to share with friends and family. I am grateful for this. Merry Christmas, everyone. I hope you are each sharing a gift together.
