Chapter Twenty Five- Pippa

"You want me to go where?" Finchey was looking at her like she was completely banana's. Which she was. But that was beside the point.

"Please?" She pouted, looking up at him with wide eyes.

"Pippa, that's hours away!" Her best friend rolled his eyes, taking another look at the scrap of paper that he clutched in his hand where she had scribbled the coordinates the moment she woke up.

She walked a little closer, continuing to pout.

"Jesus, Pips." Finchey rolled his eyes.

"Is that a yes?" She grinned from ear to ear, knowing her best friend's weaknesses.

Finchey groaned, holding his head in his hands. "Pippa-."

"Yay!" She cheered, jumping forward and engulfing him into a bear hug. "I'll pack snacks!"

She heard him sigh- whether in frustration or defeat she didn't know, but she also didn't care. She was going to be burying the time capsule today.

Looking up the coordinates first thing this morning her heart sank, the place he had given her was over 100 miles away. It would easily take her over a day to travel down there, plant the box and get back home. It was not a trip she had been relishing until her trusty companion had turned up on her door step bored and looking to do something for the day.

"So why are we going there again?" He said, following her into the kitchen as she reached for a canvas bag from one of the bottom cupboards, ready to fill it with goodies for their travels.

"I told you, I want to bury a time capsule there." She said, grabbing crisps, chocolate bars a few pieces of fruit and a large bottle of water, stuffing them into the bag.

"And you can't so that in your own back garden?" He replied, taking the bag and throwing it over his shoulder.

"Nope." She kept her reply brief and short, knowing there would be no way he would agree to drive her there if he knew the real reason why it had to be this particular spot.

"Ok, crazy lady, we need to go now if we are to make it back home before anyone misses the fact we have been gone too long." He said, walking over to the front door, taking his car keys and jacket from the hooks by its side.

"You are the best person in the world." She told him as she took her own jacket and handbag from the same hooks, throwing in her phone, purse and sunglasses before opening the door.

"Keep reminding me throughout the day." He replied, smirking.

As he walked outside and opened up his car, Pippa raced upstairs to her room. On her desk sat the now sealed and ready to be planted capsule. Tucking it under her arm, she raced back down the stairs. Looking around to check she wasn't missing anything important, she shut the front door behind her.

"How exactly are you planning on burying it?" Finchey asked, leaning on his car looking bemused.

Pippa froze as she was about to open the car door.

Finchey burst out laughing. "You haven't thought this through much have you?" He asked.

"Oh be quiet, I'll get a shovel from the shed." She quipped, opening the car door and putting her bag and the capsule inside before heading around the back of her house to venture into the shed.

After ten minutes of clatters and bangs, she emerged victorious, clutching a shovel in her hand. Rolling his eyes, Finchey opened the boot of his car for her before climbing into the driver's seat and starting the engine.

Sliding into the car, she immediately adjusted the passenger seat and flicked the radio on, getting comfortable as Finchey typed the coordinates into his phone, placing it on the stand next to the wheel.

"You should text your parents, I don't want them thinking I have kidnapped you." He said, as the peeled out of her driveway on to the road.

"No, you're just going to kill us both with your stupid driving." She replied sarcastically. Finchey chuckled and slowed down, putting both of his hand on the wheel. He knew that his reckless driving made he nervous.

She sent a quick text to her parents, telling them they were going out for a drive for the day.

Blasting the radio as loud as it would go, singing along at the top of their voices, they raced down the motor way. An hour later, and the directions were telling them to pull off into the entrance to a small quaint looking village.

"Are you sure it's this way?" Finchey said, looking over to her as he switched off the radio.

Pippa looked around as they slowly drove through the small village and out of the other end, ending up on a winding county road.

"I guess so; this is where the instructions are telling you to go- It's not like I've been here before." She pointed out.

Finchey rolled his eyes, leaning back into his chair, continuing to follow the twists and turns of the one lane road.

"Are you going to tell me what's inside of it?" He asked, looking over to the box that was situated firmly between her feet.

"Some letters, photographs, maps from the past and our time. There is also a memory stick full of as much data on out society that I could find." She replied.

"What, so the memory stick will be full of bad song parodies, funny cat videos and rants on just about anything and everything." He chuckled at his own joke.

Pippa laughed along. "Something like that."

They continued joking about the trivia of their generation for the next half an hour as the road became bumpier and further into the countryside.

The phone beeped, signaling they were getting close to their destination.

Looking out of the window, all she could see were fields.

"I think we're officially in the middle of nowhere, Pips." Finchey said, pulling into a track road.

Pippa sighed, how exactly was she going to bury the time capsule deep enough that it wasn't going to be disturbed.

"Hey, look over there. That isn't creepy at all." Finchey said, pointing out of his widow to the horizon.

There in front of them sat an old derelict farm, wire fencing surrounding it, condemned signs littering the floor.

"What, expecting a zombie attack?" Pippa said in reply, knowing Finchey was obsessed with the idea of zombies one day roaming the earth and finally feeling hopeful about the coordinates Bellamy had given her.

"Well, you will be safe with me if there is one, won't you?" He chuckled, pulling the car to a stop as close to the fencing as it could go.

"Do you think anyone is actually around?" Pippa asked, looking cautiously out of the car window for signs of life.

"In the middle of nowhere at an abandoned and condemned farm house? I don't think so." Finchey replied.

Climbing out of the car, Pippa looked around for the perfect place to bury the capsule, now tucked back under her arm.

"Come on, let's go and do some exploring!" Finchey said, practically bouncing beside her.

Wandering around the farm, she stayed far away from the house because of its crumbling bricks and half fallen in roof- the other half looking like it was ready to go at any minute.

"Found anywhere good to bury the capsule yet?" Finchey shouted over to her from across the overgrown garden.

"Not yet!" She called back.

"Come over here and check it this out then." He shouted back.

Scrambling over a fallen stone wall she emerged from the garden to find Finchey standing by the side of a small pile of rubble.

"Take a look at this, be careful though, don't get to close." He pointed to the middle of the rubble.

Cautiously, Pippa looked into the rubble to find a large hole.

"An old well." She mused, switching the torch on her phone on so she could look to the bottom.

"If you threw it down there, you wouldn't make me dig the hole." Finchey said, giving her a knowing look.

Pippa looked up at him sheepishly, before turning back to look into the well again. "I think it's perfect." She replied.

Taking one last look at the box, she carefully positioned it over the hole, releasing it from her grasp.

They waited a few seconds before a faint thud echoed back up the walls.

"To think, that will be dug up by people from the future." Finchey mused.

Pippa smiled tightly- that was the hope. A raindrop landed on her cheek.

"Come on, I want to explore some more." Finchey said, backing away, heading to the garden.

Another raindrop landed on her hand.

"I think it's starting to rain." She said, pointing to the droplet of water sitting on her hand.

"Oh come on, it's only a light drizzle." He replied. As soon as the words left his lips, thunder rocked through the sky. A dark cloud rapidly forming above their heads.

"Only a drizzle?" She shouted back at him as the wind picked up and the temperature dropped.

"Come on, we better get back to the car." Finchey replied begrudgingly, wrapping his arm around her shoulders as they headed back.

The rain began to beat down, clattering against the car as she pulled the door shut.

"That came out of nowhere!" Pippa said, looking out of the car window, watching as the rain beat down upon the glass.

"It's England, what do you expect?" He said, the wipers flying across the window as he started up the car, setting his phone back on the stand, typing in the instructions for home.

"Stop at a drive through on the way home?" He asked, pulling the car out of the farm and back onto the rough road.

"That's a given!" She replied, switching the radio back on leaning back in her chair- satisfied that she had fulfilled her part of the task, and that tomorrow- or now- or whenever- Bellamy would be opening up the capsule, reading his letter and proving his mother wrong. Hopefully.
