Chapter Twelve- Bellamy

After they finished their meal, Sadie had sped off home and he had set off to the school district. With the sun high in the sky the car stopped on the ground floor of the information tower.

Stepping out he tried to walk conspicuously through the bustle of people traveling through the building. With only a few glances and wide eyes he made it to the elevator. Pressing the button for the historical documents department his nerves started to grow.

Loosening the collar of his work suit he nervously played with his hands as the elevator rose through the building- the glass walls showing every floor as he sped by.

Each floor looked identical, the White Walls filled with small hologram rooms, with a separate computer on each floor filled with the relevant data. The elevator slowed and came to a halt, stepping out he walked to an empty room and logged in his details. The room came to life around him as he spoke his commands.

"Bring up all documents pertaining to the year 2016" the dark walls filled with documents and pictures. The dark walls now crammed with information.

'There are 78 million separate documents related to the search '2016' can I narrow it down for you?' The light voice of Siri asked.

"Keep all documents that have the name Pippa White, discard the rest." His heart stopped as nearly all the documents left the space in front of him.

'There are now 100,874 separate documents related to the search '2016' and 'Pippa White' can I narrow it down for you?' The automated voice asked again as he gazed at the documents hovering in front of him.

"Keep all documents that name the town Howden, file the rest." He watched as a new file was created and all but one remained.

'What would you like the new file to be called?' Siri asked.

"Pippa" he answered, hesitantly stepping forward to engage in the hologram. Reaching out he pulled down one of the virtual documents from in front of him and started reading. "Siri, activate chair." As soon as his voice command left his lips the floor began to move and fold itself into an armchair. Swiping the document so it would follow him he sat down and turned the first page.

It held numerous clippings from magazine articles from years leading up to the year 2016. The first page was a birth announcement.

'White family celebrate birth of daughter Pippa, Mr and Mrs white both respected members of the community set the town on high alert as Mrs Whites water broke at the annual Friday market. She was rushed by her husband to Goole hospital where only three hours later Pippa safely entered the world. We wish the family good luck in their future!'

The pressure lifted from his chest and his heart rate evened out. She was real. He flipped the page quickly eager to read more.

'Young girl wins school spelling bee!'

He laughed as he saw a young Pippa holding up a trophy a large goofy grin on her face, the short caption on at the bottom reading-

'Young Pippa White wins the age 10-12 York City spelling bee, While she correctly spelt words like narcissism and Plutonium she eventually lost out to 'sesquipedalian' (defined as 'one who uses big words') placing 4th in of the overall winners category. Well done Pippa!'

He flicked the page again as it landed on a group picture, a now older Pippa smiling at the camera her eyes bright as she clutches a book. A young boy is stood next to her with his arm wrapped around her waist his free hand also holding a book. He was so focused on the fact that this boy had his arm around her that he almost missed the article.

'Teens first to enjoy newly refurbished library as doors open to the public after a month long wait. Pictured here is Pippa white aged 14 with friend Andrew French aged 15.'

He sighed flicking over the page again, he was being stupid and he knew it.

This page held a full picture of the Pippa he knew, holding up a piece of paper smiling softly at the camera.

'Howden's Pippa White is one of Britons brightest students. Pictured here is Pippa receiving her results at the local college, she has achieved an A* in her 8 A levels, English literature, English language, History, Latin, Law, Business studies, Philosophy, Physics and Chemistry. When asked how she managed to fit in the studying time for all the subjects she replied "I could do it in my sleep." - Lucky her! We sincerely wish this bright spark the best for her future as she takes a year out to relax before heading to university.'

Bellamy sighed as he took in the picture before him. Of course she could do it in her sleep. Her dreams were like real time to her and she would have been able to accomplish everything and anything she wanted to.

Siri flickered into life in front of him before he had a chance to turn the page and continue reading.

'Your mother is calling, would you like to answer.'

"Yes, I will answer." He swiped the document to the side as his mother filled the space in front of him, she was sat in a deep red armchair in what he believed to be the living room. Though he couldn't be sure for it had been remodelled twice this year already.

"Bellamy! Darling! How are you?" She gushed, her eyes raking over his blue jumpsuit disapprovingly before her gaze settled on his face.

"Well, mother. How are you?" He answered politely.

"Oh just wonderful." She smiled, her pink stained lips parting to show perfect straight white teeth.

"And father?" He asked, knowing full well what the answer would be.

"He is doing ok, it is a very busy time and he is getting quite stressed. Though of course he wouldn't be nearly as stressed if you had taken a more political route like your father, he would have appreciated your help immensely, especially in such trying times as these." She snuffled and flicked her hair back from her face- an indication of disapproval he had grown up with.

"I am sorry to hear that mother. What trying times do you speak of?" He asked, curious.

"Oh the government is going through a shift and he is under a lot of pressure to be the man everyone wants him to be, it's why we are throwing the party next Saturday evening dear. So we can invite the heads of sectors and departments- rally them to our cause and what not.

Talking of the dinner Bellamy, I have made an appointment for you to go and see Carlos, he is expecting you in half an hour and you mustn't be late, you know how in demand he is. I know what you're thinking Bellamy." She said taking in his sour face "But you can't be seen in the same suit twice, just think of what the people would say!

Fashion has changed since Christmas, it's been 8 months since you bought a new suit and the occasion calls for it. Now I must go and make sure all the dinner orders are correct, so I will expect to see you on the doorstep and 6:30 sharp, the first guests should start arriving at 7:00 and you need to be there." With a blow of a kiss she raised her hand and her hologram went off.

"Siri, save file to personal computer." He ordered taking a last longing look at the picture of Pippa before standing. 'File saved.' Siri's voice said.

"Close down the programme." The lights came back on as the chair receded into the floor, with a soft click the door unlocked itself and he stepped out, taking a moment for his eyes to adjust to the bright light around him.

He got a few stares as he made his way down the elevator, through the foyer and into the car station. Scanning his Iris into one of the private cars he begrudgingly ordered it to 'Carlos' tailor for the rich and famous.

The car raced back through the streets to the service end of the city and up the tower that stood next to the one he had been to lunch in just a few hours earlier.

Coming to a stop in the middle of the building he stepped out into a bare brightly lit box room, with just a desk and a lady stood behind it.

Last time he had been here it had been a cosy gentle men's club based from a picture from 1934. But fashion and tastes changed in a matter of seconds and if you didn't conform then you were highly frowned upon.

The lady behind the desk looked up as he approached and nodded in recognition while swiping some numbers into a key pad in the wall.

"Carlos is expecting you Mr. Jezebel, right through here please."

The wall slid open to reveal a hidden door, stepping through he found himself in another bare white room with only a pedestal and a large mirror. The door slid shut behind him at the same time as another slid open in front of him.

"Bellamy Jezebel. Do my eyes deceive me!?" Carlos flounced into the room and taking his hand steered him to the centre of the room. "When Marlena told me you had made an appointment I didn't dare hope you would turn up! I know what your like you silly boy!"

Carlos walked around him in a circle his eyes flickering up and down his body. "You've lost a little muscle mass, shame really. But I will measure you up and have a new suit tailored and sent to you by this evening."

When it came to Carlos, Bellamy had learnt that keeping quiet was the best way to survive these appointments. The floors and walls buzzed into life, lighting up as blue beams scanned him from head to toe. Carlos was busy in the corner going through fabric swatches, checking them 'against his complexion'

"Here, pick one." Carlos handed him two fabric sample- a dark midnight blue with gold stitching and a black with silver stitching.

"The blue one." He said trying and failing to imagine what it would look like once it was finished.

"A good choice, but now I think about it you are in blue too much. I will make you the black one." Carlos nodded to himself before scanning in the fabric choice and typing in what sort of stitching, fit and flare was fashionable. "And voila! We are done! Wasn't that fun?"

"Immensely so." Bellamy replied dryly.

"It shall be delivered to your room later on- now be gone with you, my next client has just arrived!"

Bellamy was ushered out of the fitting room and back into his car as another drew up behind his. That was how it was with places like this, clients liked their animosity- even though they would then flaunt the fact they had been there. It was all too confusing- Bellamy had come to that conclusion early on, so instead chose not to recognise brands and the celebrities that surrounded him. It made life so much simpler.

"Home." he ordered into his car system and he was quickly sped off into the depths of the city.
