Chapter 2
Sophie hummed, cheerful for the first time in the past few months. The job was set up and she had finished her paperwork, so the company had gotten a place ready for her. They were just waiting for her to get there.
Her doorbell rang and a muffled "Ow" snapped her back to reality and she opened the door to reveal her best friends. Jax held a stack of boxes so high it covered most of his face while Liza only held a small container filled with newspapers and packing tape.
"We're here to help!" The shorter girl beamed, hugging Sophie, "I'm so excited for you."
"You're not helping me, my arms are about to break," Jax complained, dumping the boxes on the floor.
"Are you saying you're weak?"
"No, you try lugging those boxes around for half an hour and tell me if I'm weak or not," He retorted, rubbing his biceps.
"Shush, we have a whole apartment to pack up still."
"Ughhh.."
Sophie smiled at their antics, she was going to miss them, "Thanks so much for offering to help me."
"I didn't offer, I was force-"
Liza clapped her hand over his mouth, "Always happy to help, Soph."
Jax rolled his eyes but nodded, his smile giving away that he was joking. The trio began packing and although her apartment was tiny, it took them until evening to finish everything up.
"Whew! We're done!" Sophie exclaimed, laying down on the empty floor.
"Yes!" Jax fist-pumped, laying down next to her, his chocolate brown hair messy from the day's work.
Liza glanced at the small pile of boxes and luggage, "You sure you have everything important in your suitcase for the airport tomorrow?"
Sophie nodded, "We checked three times Liz. Let's order food and have dinner one last time."
"I can't believe you're leaving me with her," Jax whined jokingly, earning a light kick from Liz, "Ow!"
"We'll be having the best time together, won't we?" Liza smiled, her voice dangerously light.
"Yea, yea."
Liza left to grab food, insisting that she treat them as it was Sophie's last day in the States. Jax simply didn't want to go.
"Lazy butt," was all Liz growled before she went.
After a couple moments of silence, Jax turned to Sophie, "Why did you choose to go?"
She sighed, "I needed change, I can't go to school for business when I don't even want to touch that side of economics."
"But Korea? Why couldn't you go to like California? I hear the beaches are nice there."
"I- I don't know. I need to get away. Make a brand new start, you know?"
"...Even if it means leaving what we could become?"
Sophie inhaled sharply, this was the small cord that made her want to stay. They had only recently started moving in this direction, Liz didn't even know, but the small joy that Jax gave her was nothing compared to the misery the rest of her life brought her.
She stayed silent for a moment more, "Yes. Even if it means leaving you."
They stayed in silence until Liza came back, and even then neither of them gave away the hurt they both were feeling. The burgers Liz had gotten was a perfect end to the day, and while the food wasn't the best Sophie was definitely going to miss the late night food runs with her daring best friend.
"So what did your parents say?" Sophie asked, gesturing to Liz's purple hair.
Liz rolled her eyes, "You know Asian parents. My dad was threatening to shave it all off and my mom was saying she was going to disown me."
Jax looked it over, "It looks good though, did you go to Pierre?"
"I did, the man is a mastermind."
"I know right? I'm planning on dying my hair that new ice silver color for fun."
Sophie looked at her friends in slight awe, she wished she could be like them. They both openly fought against their parents and while Jax's parents gave up on trying to control him, she knew her parents would have reacted very differently.
"Sophie, you should get your hair dyed," Liz's attention suddenly focused on her.
"Yea, dye it like a nice auburn would look nice on you," Jax agreed.
"Oh, I was thinking like blue."
"You're crazy," Sophie laughed, "Who knows I might when I get over there."
"Look at our little Soph, finally coming out of her shell and being rebellious."
"Stopp."
"Whaaa?"
The seven boys stared at their manager in confusion as he explained to them. They had been in the middle of a dance practice when he and Bang PD-nim had come in to hold a small meeting.
"We're getting a new staff member?" Taehyung asked, eyes wide.
"The official job title is BigHit Entertainment International Associate," PD-nim laughed, "It's vague, but she's going to help out with foreign affairs and help out in your promotions."
Rap Monster blinked, "Why?"
"We have Namjoon to help with our foreign stuff already," Jin added.
"Do you know how hard it is finding people that can help us go international? I only have so many connections. Plus Namjoon is only fluent in English and Korean, she knows 4 languages fluently and is working on 2 more. She's also your age, so you guys gain someone to talk to."
Everyone nodded, each seeing the CEO's way of thinking.
"How old is she?" Jungkook then asked, "Is she a noona?"
"She's a 95 liner."
"Yahhh," V and Jimin high fived eachother.
"She's from the States then, does she know Korean?" Jin questioned.
"She's Korean," the Manager answered, "Look through the portfolio we gave you, that should answer your questions."
J-hope opened the folder, "She's pretty!"
The other members leaned in to see, each agreeing, all of them were growing excited at the thought of the new person. Well, all except one.
"Hyung aren't you excited?" Jimin asked the stoic guy who just sat there looking at the file.
Min Suga scanned over her profile and shrugged, "She's very talented on paper, but we have to see her in person to truly find out who she is."
The younger member just blinked and shook his head, this hyung was known to think very deeply on random things. He himself was excited to meet his new dongsaeng.
