Chapter 12
Yoongi and the others didn't really know what was happening, but the rapid angry-sounding Japanese on the other side did not bode well for the agent. However, the girl just sat still and calmly took out one of the many files she had in her bag.
"I thought we had a deal! I offer you amazing service and the best rooms in my hotel for a discount," The owner of the hotel fumed on the other side, "Then I found out you never booked rooms!"
Sophie almost sighed as she pulled out the file for the hotels in Kyoto, "Sir, as I have told you before your hotel was just too far from the concert and fan meeting sites, it isn't your fault or my fault."
"I told you we could get them complementary transportation to the stages! What more could you want?"
"Sir, the band's schedule is extremely packed and it starts early in the day. It simply wouldn't be fair to them if we stayed at your hotel to have to cut down on their sleep simply for commute times."
He huffed on the other side, "Well, this is the last time I offer anything like this."
"I'm sorry to hear that."
"You better be!"
She could hear the click as the other side hung up and just shrugged as the manager beside her looked over in confusion.
"Another hotel?" He asked, turning into the highway.
"De," she answered, tucking away her tablet as the maknae line behind her started up some ruckus, "Just another one."
"What do hotels want with you?" Hoseok asked, curious about the phone call.
Sophie just shook her head and waved it off, she had gotten used to people like that. Manager Sejin nodded and glanced at the young girl's calm composure.
"You have to meet with the press before the conference 2 hours after we land, so be ready for that. We're going there straightaway."
"De."
"Ah guys!" Sophie called as the boys rushed into the terminal without their boarding passes. She stopped chasing after them and sighed, "Jinjja.."
"Boys!" Manager Sejin called out, immediately making the boys stop and turn back, "Stick close, your departure is public."
The band members nodded, knowing what that meant. They straightened out their clothes and fixed their sunglasses and masks. Jhope had even gone to the length of wearing a hat under his hood.
"I have your boarding tickets too, so please stay close!" Sophie said, catching up to them.
"This close?" Jimin asked, walking so close to her so that their arms looked stuck together.
She shook her head at his antics, winking at him, "Only if you want to."
"Ahhh," the boy exclaimed, laughing, "In all seriousness, I will."
"I want your other arm then," Taehyung said, doing the same thing so that she was jammed in the middle of her fellow 95 liners.
The girl shook her head at the two as Hoseok and Namjoon walked by. She stopped herself abruptly, dislodging herself from the other two and raced to join the 94 liners, who greeted her warmly.
The two others that were left in the dust just looked at each other.
"Were we just replaced?"
"Seems like it."
The airport proved to be as packed with people as she had heard. But she hadn't expected that almost all of the people were ARMYs, most of them with BTS merchandise on them, yelling and screaming for their bias to notice them. The rest of the staff had gone to check in all the luggage, leaving just her and the other managers to accompany the band members to the gate.
In all honesty, Sophie felt kind of overwhelmed as they made their way through the crowd. Most people ignored the managers, but the vast numbers of teenage girls and flashing camera lights around her made her feel suffocated. She slowly fell behind the others, even as she was trying her hardest to keep up with the taller men, her lungs starting to act up.
Just as she was about to fall incredibly behind the others, a pale hand grabbed hers and pulled her up with the rest of the group.
Yoongi had noticed the subtle change in facial expression on Sophie; while she remained calm on the outside, the ends of her lips had curled slightly down and her eyes became guarded as they headed towards their gate. He didn't blame her, while he and the others had gotten used to the fans, others might not be comfortable with hundreds of girls taking pictures and crowding around the group as they just tried to get on their flight.
He had also noticed that she was struggling to keep up with the band members and managers, her height being at least 12 centimeters shorter than himself. She wasn't a slow walker, and she could usually keep up with the busy schedule that forced her to move around the entire building but because they wanted to get through as fast as they could, the usual walking speed turned into double the speed at places like this. The security guards had barely paid attention to the young agent as well, focusing on the idol group more and hadn't noticed that she was falling behind.
So when she almost slipped into the crowd, Yoongi couldn't help but grab her hand and pull her back into the safety of the group. While he hadn't gotten as close to her as the others, he felt a sense of responsibility and admiration for the younger girl. To become the manager of international affairs for an idol boy band at her age was incredibly impressive, and Sophie exceeded expectations when it came to her job.
She didn't say anything as he led her back up to the group and quietly followed, him helping her not fall back every time that she stumbled or slowed down. He ignored the ARMYs as best he could, while he loved them all and couldn't be more grateful for their support, it was times like this that he wished they were a little more subdued.
They did eventually make it through to the gate, leaving their fans behind the security check. Security around them was still tight though, and they continued moving at that rate towards the boarding area.
"Ah, whenever I see our ARMYs, I feel myself recharging," Hoseok said, putting a hand over his heart as he looked up dramatically.
"Honestly though, I feel refreshed and ready for anything," Jin agreed, stretching his shoulder blades.
One of the managers looked around and found the time, "Stretch out your legs while you can, we still have 10 minutes before boarding starts."
"De!" Taehyung replied, looking around for his fellow 95 liner, "Sophie?"
A cough made him turn around to a surprising and concerning sight.
Sophie was quite winded from such a quick paced walk through the entire airport, so when they finally reached the boarding gate, she promptly stopped and breathed heavily, trying to catch her breath.
She had gotten a severe case of pneumonia back in high school that left her on bed rest for two weeks, but this was the first time her lungs were giving up on her after she had started exercising to help her strengthen the parts that were now scarred.
"Sophie-ssi?" Suga called her name, leaning over to check that the girl was okay.
This only caused her to bend down herself, her grip on his hand tightening before she collapsed suddenly on the floor, bringing down the man with her. He quickly noticed the distressed breathing and grabbed a water bottle he had been saving out for the flight, opening it and handing it to her.
Manager-hyung had also seen what was happening and his hand appeared on Yoongi's shoulder, squatting down next to the boy to see what was wrong.
"Sophie-ah, gwaenchanayo?" The older man asked, and the girl nodded a couple times as she brought the water bottle to her mouth.
At that response, the manager nodded and left, leaving the young man and girl alone. As Yoongi looked back down to the coughing girl, he met Taehyung's eyes, the both of them knowing exactly what the other was thinking. Sophie was just sitting on the ground with an unreadable expression, breathing slowly returning to normal, but the water bottle in her hands was shaking slightly. As soon as Suga had noticed this, the girl looked down herself and forced her hands to remain still.
"Gomowoyo," she said, looking up to the older man as she handed him his water bottle back.
"It was nothing," he responded, putting the bottle down.
She laughed a little as she quickly changed the subject, "You sure know how to cause a media sensation huh?"
"What?"
"In a couple hours, I'll have thousands of girls demanding my identity and relationship to you," she explained, getting up.
Suga's face turned a shade redder, "Oh."
"Gwaenchana," she assured him as he too got up, "We have press conferences that will explain everything. Now, we have something more important to worry about."
"What's that?" He asked, looking around at the almost empty gate.
She pointed to the two identical bags that laid next to their feet, "Which of our bags was the one that got wet?"
"What?" Suga asked again, confused, before he spotted the leaking water bottle, "Oh no."
