*ranboo's pov*
I was walking back to my house, holding a bunch of logs in my arms. I wasn't physically tired, as I had gotten a good sleep and being tall and an enderman gave me it's perks of strength.

I was tired mentally though. Some drama had happened with Tommy and Tubbo and I'm stuck between the two of them. They both want me on their side of the argument and I don't know who to chose.

They're both my best friends. I don't want to lose either of them.

Anyways, word had spread about the drama and some people were trying to get me to chose who they think has the better argument.

I appreciate the help, but they shouldn't be worried about my problems - that's the last thing I want.

Some people are mad at me for not choosing a side - even though I'm pretty sure I established that I don't like choosing sides a few weeks after I joined the server.

I can't bring myself to care about those people who think that way though.

Not only that drama, but I had been working really hard on a project. It was my biggest project yet, and the idea had taken forever - don't even get me started on how much work it's taking to bring it to life.

The lack of sleep I've been getting as been so bad that even Technoblade had gotten concerned.

Anyways, I was almost at the portal in the nether that lead to my house near Technoblade's, when I was stopped by a voice.

"Hey Ranboo!" Someone called out, I turned around to see that it was Quackity. Huh, I haven't talked to him in a while.

I smiled, looking down at him. I was quite taller than he was.

"Hello Quackity!" I said back, deciding to make room in my inventory by throwing some random seeds and feathers down into the lava below the two of us. I put the logs in their places.

"Yeah, hey. I heard what's been going on with Tommy and Tubbo." He said. I was taken back.

"Oh, heh yeah. It's been...quite the ride for me. I feel bad for the both of them but I can't bring myself to choose who to go with." I said, sort of venting out my problems onto him for a second.

"Uh huh, I see- actually, yknow Ranboo," He said and I perked up a bit to show interest.

"Choosing a side will make everything go by way easier for you."

I didn't expect that. Didn't he know I didn't like choosing sides? I'm pretty sure everyone knew and I think he was there when I told everyone.

(Wasn't there a lore stream where Ranboo and Niki were arguing and he was like "I don't choose sides" or whatever and it was one of his first lore streams with other people when he first joined the server? I feel like I'm hallucinating that. Someone plz confirm lol)

"Oh uhm.. heh yeah maybe, but I'm not a fan of choosing sides." I said slowly, scared of his reaction for a random reason.

He raised an eyebrow at me, seemingly confused. I was uncomfortable with the eye contact, so I looked away - although I could still feel his hard glare on me. I shuffled.

"Why not? Scared somethings gonna happen?" He taunted.

What?

"N-no! No, not at all!" I stuttered out, "I just have my reasonings. It causes more drama to choose sides because then the other person feels betrayed and it just creates a whole thing!"

Quackity smirked at me, which was confusing. It felt like he had something planned, and I didn't really want to be there when it was put into action.

Before he could speak again, I did.

"Well, anyways, I have some logs to put away and I was going to help Techno with his dogs soo..." I said quickly, starting to turn around and walk into the portal. I waved and smiled at him before I turned.

I was about to step into the portal when he spoke again, clear pride in his voice.

"You're a traitor."

I stopped, turning to him and looking him in his eyes. I was suddenly incredibly mad.

"What? What did you just call me?"

*third person*
Ranboo had never told anyone this, but a thing that triggered him deep down was being called a traitor.

Ever since that moment in the blow up community house, it's been a trigger.

He spent weeks - months even - trying to convince everyone that he wasn't a traitor and he was only being a friend. He was. He never betrayed anyone.

Stupid Dream and his manipulative self. A bastard, he is.

In that moment, when Quackity called him a traitor, he felt a rage like no other. He'd never been so mad before, but he could feel it bubble out of his stomach and into his throat.

He was going to boil over.

And he did.

"What did you just call me? Say it again. I dare you." Ranboo said, turning back to face Quackity and taking multiple steps towards him quickly.

Quackity froze for a second, not expecting a reaction like that. He regained his senses quickly, realizing he was getting more than he had originally come to get from the tall hybrid.

"Oh I'll say it again, Ranboo, you are a traitor." Quackity spat out, venom laced in his voice. Ranboo furrowed his eyebrows in anger.

Normally Ranboo was calm - he always was. No one had seen him mad. Quackity wasn't sure what to do, so he kept up a fake guard of pride to mask the fear.

"Listen here, I'm not a traitor, and I never have been, okay?"

Ranboo's voice seemed to boom out through the nether, echoing off of the netherrack and back onto them. He seemed to be growing taller as he spoke, which caused Quackity to subconsciously step backwards to put space between them.

It was almost comedic how seconds before, Quackity had Ranboo cornered and uncomfortable, and now the tables had turned.

"You don't get to tell me what I am, and you never will. That damned book Dream had might've been true, but it's better than a lie. Being caught lying sucks, trust me on that one." Ranboo continued, looking the small ravenette up and down.

Quackity didn't speak once. The fear of what would happen if he interrupted overtook the normal pride he had. He'd never felt this way before.

And neither had Ranboo.

Ranboo wasn't sure why he felt so mad. Maybe it was pent up anger from the argument his two best friends, or maybe it's him being grumpy from the lack of sleep. He wasn't sure.

But being angry felt good.

He felt like he was never allowed to be angry because of his happy and bubbly exterior everyone saw all the time.

This was a good difference to him. It felt relieving.

"I don't choose sides because when you do, one person always gets hurt, and it might just be you. Tommy and Tubbo can argue all they please, but I will never pick who I want to support. I won't be tugged back and forth between people and be forced into choosing who's right. It's their issue,
not mine. That's why I don't choose sides. If I don't choose sides, everyone is happy."

"Sure, whatever you say, but remember the book last time Ranboo? You're a traitor because of that. You betrayed L'Manburg for their two most wanted people? How could you?"

Ranboo huffed out a breath of air. Quackity was not going to bring this back.

Not without a harsh word.

"I did NOT BETRAY L'MANBURG!" Ranboo shouted, surprising Quackity back a few more steps.

"I was simply being a friend to the two people who have done more for me than anyone else in this damn server. We're friends, right Quackity?" Ranboo asked, getting a nod from the other.

"Then why did you kick me out when I begged for mercy after being burned by rain, but Philza showed concerned and let me in and helped me that same day. Why did you break into my old house and take whatever you pleased, and when I asked for it back, you threw a little fit? But when Technoblade takes something that's mine, he apologizes and gives it back? You're a SHIT friend. That's why I stay with them, and not you or that country."

When Ranboo had finished his rant - more so his scolding - his red eye had become more red, and he was actively letting off smoke.

Quackity felt as if he had messed up badly. Not only had Ranboo swore in his sentence, but he was fucking smoking.

Smoking.

In a fit of pent up rage that Quackity wasn't saying anything, and overall anger, Ranboo opened his mouth and let out an enderman screech.

Quackity covered his ears, but had no reaction as a fireball started coming right at him.

Ranboo had since backed up a bit after shouting at him, but there was no ghast near them that could've shot at him.

That's when he looked at Ranboo again and saw that he was on the ground with a hand over his mouth, breathing heavily. He didn't know he could do that.

Quackity froze, mouth opened shocked. Then, everything went black as the fireball hit him. Ranboo flinched.

He watched as Quackity died, a chat message showing up.

<Quackity was fireballed by Ranboo>

Some confused chat messages came in, wondering how Ranboo had done that.

<Awesamdude> What happened?
<Tubbo_> ranboo what did u do?
<Ph1LzA> Everything alright m8?
<TommyInnit> loser
<Awesamdude> Tommy please
<TommyInnit> srry sam
<Sapnap> is q gonna respawn? ranboo what did you do?

Ranboo got up shakily, only typing one thing before he ran into the portal and straight to his house.

<Ranboo> i'm sorry

time skip: ranboo pov in his house
I need to hide myself before I do something like that again.

When was I able to shoot out fireballs? What triggered me to do that? How did I do that?

This was not okay.

I made it into my house - ignoring how the cuffs of my dress pants were wet from the snow - and slammed the door, trying my best not to cry.

I had yelled at Quackity. Why would I yell at him? Sure Las Nevadas was messing him up a bit, but he was still a nice dude on occasion.

I paced around my room, head in my hands breathing quickly.

I killed a man. I killed a man. I killed a man. I KILLED a man. I KILLED A MAN.

I let out another enderman screech, losing myself as I ran out of my house, sprinting in the direction of Techno's cabin without realizing.

*techno's pov*
I was sitting in front of my fire when there was frantic knocking from the door. I almost didn't answer it because I figured it was Tommy coming to steal from em again.

Phil shouted for me to answer it, so I grumbled getting up, muttering complaints to myself.

I opened the door and was surprised to see Ranboo.

I'd seen what happened earlier with him "fireballing" Quackity - which I wasn't sure how he'd managed that. I figured maybe it was a server malfunction and it was just a ghast and it glitched to say he had done it.

He was shaking like a leaf, wet cuffs on his dress pants - that looked mildly uncomfortable - and his hair was messier than it normally was. Okay, maybe this wasn't a sever malfunction.

"Uh....Ranboo? Hey? You good?" I asked, shuffling a bit as I opened the door more.

"N-no I- Techno please- I-I-I killed him! I'm insane-"

"Woah! Woah Ranboo calm down. Come in, you're shivering worse than how Tommy was in my basement."

I grabbed his arm, almost dragging him to the ground as his legs failed to work. I caught him, picking him up bridal style and shutting the door with my foot.

*third person*
Techno carried Ranboo to the couch where he was previously sitting, laying him down on the couch. He started the fire back up and it was roaring up the chimney quickly.

"Okay Ranboo, I'll be right back with a blanket and whatever." Techno said, jumping up and running to the closet for a blanket, and the kitchen for a muffin.

Ranboo didn't move from his spot - not that he couldn't, but he was scared to move. If he moved again their was always a slight chance that he would kill Techno and be the most wanted person in L'Manburg-

"Oi Ranboo, hey, you're fine okay? Take some deep breaths."

Techno was in front of him again, crouching in front of his head. Ranboo had never seen such concern in the anarchists eyes before - it was honestly kind of scary to see.

He started taking over dramatic inhales for Ranboo to follow, which he did, and he calmed down quickly.

(You can see I'm starting to rush lmaooo)

"See kid? Nothing to worry about." Techno said in his normal, monotone voice. He got up, placing the blanket over Ranboo and setting the muffin in front of him on the coffee table.

"B-but there is!" Ranboo cried, trying to keep all tears in, "I-I killed Quackity! E-everyone's gonna thi-think I'm a ba-bad person again-n!"

Techno listened carefully as Ranboo went on and on about how worried he was. That was natural for Ranboo, he always worried about things.

Techno nearly felt sympathy for the young hybrid. He was still learning stuff about himself as he'd never probably had a stable family to teach him. As far as Techno knew, Ranboo was thrown out for being different than the rest.

(Should I make a chapter of that- sounds kinda cool ngl)

He wasn't mad at Ranboo for killing Quackity - oh, no he could never be. Honestly, Techno was waiting for the right time to do it himself. Ranboo just...accidentally beat him to it.

"Do you see what I mean Techno? People don't just....SPIT OUT fireballs- I mean cmon that's not-"

"Wait, you spit out the fireball? I thought it was a server malfunction in the chat?" Techno said, standing up from the ground confused.

Ranboo nodded, "Y-yeah. Sorry about that, heh, I-I don't know why....sorry."

"Kid, stop apologizing. What caused you to even do that?" Techno asked, sitting across from Ranboo on the couch.

The tall hybrid sniffled, trying to blink tears away. He was surprised he managed to keep them in all this time.

He sighed, getting ready to explain.

i'm not explaining this again lol time skip woo

"So what you're telling me is that you got so mad you exploded him?" Techno said after a long pause.

Ranboo had gone into depth with how he felt and what had happened - telling the story pretty darn well for his bad memory. Techno looked shocked at how much he remembered, and to be fair, Ranboo was just as confused.

He nodded, "I mean, yeah to summarize you could say that.." He answered, a slight shrug following.

He expected Techno to be angry with him - to maybe even shout at him.

That didn't happen.

Instead Techno smiled wider than Ranboo was sure Phil had ever seen, and gave a slow clap. He couldn't tell if it was sarcastic or if he was just trying to not disturb Phil with actual clapping.

"Now, THAT is why, Ranboo, I always told you that there was something special about you," He said, standing up, pointing at Ranboo.

"This is why you're part of the Syndicate! You killed a newborn manipulator on accident by spitting out a fireball you didn't even know was possible!"

Ranboo awkwardly chuckled, not sure why Techno was so proud. The hybrid couldn't help but shake slightly - even with a happy Techno, the piglin was still terrifying.

Techno kept going on, so Ranboo let him. He seemed happy enough talking about this, so he didn't stop him. It was strange seeing Techno this passionate about Ranboo....killing someone.

"And we could- Ranboo we could put you in a training lesson so you can learn to control-"

"Techno, please," Ranboo said gently, scared to cut the more intimidating man off.

"I- I understand that you are...excited...about this..b-but I'm still guilty and I feel...bad about what I did. I was friends with Quackity and even though I know that he is not a very good person anymore, I still feel bad. The-" Ranboo sighed, rubbing his hands together nervously.

"The guilt won't leave, and I'm sorry Techno. I don't want to train myself I just want this to go away!"

Ranboo cried, the tears finally dropping as everything felt like too much. He put his head in his hands, too embarrassed to look Techno in the eyes.

He felt bad - he shut Techno down when he was truly excited about something. He just wanted to help Ranboo to grow stronger so he would be able to protect himself, but the guilt that kept gnawing at him since it had happened took over.

It wouldn't leave and Ranboo knew that it wouldn't. He would go to sleep tonight and see it, the dream repeating until he finally faces what he killed. Until he finally apologizes to the man he brutally murdered on purpose.

No, it was an accident. Was it? Wait, what happened?

"-boo! Ranboo! Ranboo, calm down! You're burning yourself!"

Ranboo touched under his eyes, feeling a sting and burns. His finger tips tingled from touching his face, which made him rub it off on his dress pants.

"S-sorry. I-I-"

"No, I get it," Techno said. He sounded mad.

"You don't want to get better, you want to stay the same. Change isn't your thing. If you want to let this go and scare yourself like this again so be it. Don't learn about it, let it sit there, stinging in the back if your mind. You'll make this mistake again, and history will repeat."

Ranboo shrunk back again, this time not because of embarrassment or fear of Techno excitement - he shrunk back because he knew that Techno was right.

He hated when someone was right because it made him second guess himself and what he was thinking when he came to his own conclusion that made sense to him.

He thought forgetting about the fireball would be better, but Techno's words made him regret.

"Techno, I- I'm sorry, I-"

"No, Ranboo!" Techno rose his voice, "You aren't. You're just being yourself. You let guilt take over! That's what makes us different - this is why we can't be real friends!"

Ranboo's heart shattered. He thought they were friends.

"I don't let guilt stop me. What happens happens and I can't change that. You? You on the other hand, you think too much before something happens which causes nothing interesting to ever happen to you because you're too scared someone's going to catch you. We can't be friends like that. We can't "make a change" like you wanted to!"

When Techno finished yelling, he didn't do anything but stare and wait for Ranboo to say something back.

Ranboo shook as he stared back, feeling mountains of uncomfortableness rush through his body. He hated eye contact, but he couldn't bring himself to look away in fear of Techno making a move on him.

"Get out."

"W-what?"

"The door. Get out. You can't face me like a man like you could last week because I told the truth. Get. Out."

Ranboo scrambled to get up, rushing to the door. He needed out - he needed his cat. He needed his Enderchest. (The name of the cat, not the actual type of chest lmao)

He ran back to his house, slamming the door shut. He found the cat sleeping on top of one of his chests.

He hated to disturb the cat from it's sleep, but he wanted comfort. Enderchest seemed completely unfazed by the frantic pick-up and hug, instead snuggling into Ranboo and letting out an even purr to help.

Ranboo sat on the ground, holding his cat, breathing slowly down.

The fur felt soft between his fingers, the purr rumbling throughout his chest and gliding along his palm with each stroke along it's back.

He didn't think he'd be getting over whatever just happened any time soon, but he could hope that Phil had heard what happened, and that he'd scold Techno.

Normally he wouldn't wish a scolding upon anyone, but he couldn't be bothered to think that. The pinkette deserved it.

Eventually, Ranboo calmed down, now just petting the cat to pet it. Enderchest was almost asleep again, so Ranboo put it on the fluffiest part of his carpet and he went to his room.

He took his blazer off, along with his dress shoes. He couldn't care about his dress shirt or pants, so he left those on and laid in bed on top of the sheets.

His breathing slowed and his eyes fluttered shut with the weight of exhaustion. Today was wild.

Ranboo could only hope he wouldn't run into Techno soon, and that Quackity wouldn't be mad at him.
