Now, you are ready to start bangin' out your 50,000 words for NaNoWriMo. If you don't have an account, you'll need to sign up. Then, set things up to track your word count.

You'll find that, if you have your plot laid out in a timeline really well, you don't necessarily have to start at the beginning! You can begin anywhere you like. Many people like to write the scene that is most important to them first. Others like to write all the flashback. Still others go straight for the end.

The important thing is to write. In fact, the challenge isn't designed to write a finished novel; it's to write 50,000 words. Not only that, it's meant to be a rough draft. You can start to post things to wattpad whenever you want as long as you begin before December 31st, 2019 if you want to participate in the contest that will be in April 2020.

When you start to post, create a cover that reflects the book. Also, write a blurb for potential readers. Here's a great website to help: https://blog.reedsy.com/write-blurb-novel/. This link is posted as an external link.

So, the way to make this work is to connect one plot point to another with prose. The method is to choose a point and write the scene. You may or may not write the connecting material at this time. Then choose another scene and write it. Finally, make sure you have all the connecting material, often called the transition, from one scene to another. Do this until you have a coherent story.

Once your rough draft is done, do the first edit. Many people are making sure that the storyline makes sense from beginning to end. This is a development edit. As much as it hurts, cut anything and everything that doesn't further the plot or a subplot.

Do another edit for grammar, punctuation, and other mechanics.

Make consistent updates to your book on wattpad. Be sure you pick the best time to upload for your audience (typically on a Friday around noon in the earliest time zone of where your readers are located). When you have five or ten chapters, you can start submitting your work to book club reviews and whatnot in order to help you edit even more.
