Chapter 10
"Dani, what took you so long to answer the door?" Jax asked, his lips were kissing her temple, her cheek, her forehead.
"Whoa...calm down Jax. It was like two seconds, remember?" Dani asked, stepping aside for him to enter.
"I called you but you never answered. I was worried."
Dani pulled out her phone. It was switched off.
"You don't even have it on?"
Dani rolled her eyes as Jax began cursing under his breath.
"If you're going to be a grouch, I'll kick you out, Jax."
"I'm sorry. I'm just worried that's all. I see Roberto freaking out because of Gladys and it worries me that something will happen to you as well," Jax said.
"Well, well, well...I would've never guessed that Jax Michaels was a worrywart."
"I'm not a worrywart. I'm just being practical. Is that a bad thing?" Jax asked, pulling her into his embrace.
Dani blushed, "I don't know. I've never had someone worry about me like this."
"Not true."
"You calling me a liar, Jaxass?"
"No, I'm calling you mistaken. I've worried about you since the day I met you."
"Is that so?" she could feel his lips softly touching her cheek.
"That's so," he lightly kissed her before whispering, "I've worried about you since day one. You've been on my mind for a while, Panda Eyes."
"You sound like a stalker," Dani smiled.
"You're the one that's dating me. What does that say about you? A woman that dates a stalker."
"I never said I was normal," Dani laughed as he gave her a quick squeeze before letting her go. "Please turn on your phone, Panda Eyes. If not for your safety then for my sanity."
"I will...I will. So, how's Roberto holding up?"
"Not so great. After hearing your dream, what happened at the restaurant, and the tire marks we found at the scene, we think Los Lobos Locos having something to do with Gladys being taken. His brother-in-law is going to help out."
"His brother-in-law was that detective from Majestic Waters, right? That's good."
Jax watched as she nervously licked her lips and wouldn't meet his eyes.
"Dani?"
"Hmm?"
"What's going on? You sounded strange earlier and now you're being weird."
"Nothing. Just a lot of strange things have been happening these days."
"Strange like how?" Jax asked.
Dani shook her head, letting him know that she didn't want to answer.
"Dani, tell me what's going on."
"I found this on my door today," Dani handed him the note she had found earlier.
I know something about you.
"What the hell is this?" Jax muttered, holding the note in his hand.
"I don't know but something's not right. On top of that, I've been having these weird dreams and in every single dream I see the same thing...or person."
"What are you seeing?"
Dani pulled out her sketch pad and held up her picture of the Grim Reaper, "I see this."
Jax reached for the drawing and held it, "You're seeing this in all of your dreams? It's not an omen or anything, is it?"
"How would I know?" Dani stood behind him. "All I know is that every dream I have, death is just watching."
"Should we talk to that psychic lady Madame...I don't remember her name."
"I tried calling her but she didn't answer. In the meantime...I have someone sticking notes on my door."
"I think you should stay with me," Jax said.
"What?"
"I know you like your independence but I think it would be safer for you if you were with me."
"Remember the last time I stayed the night at your place? You got a brick through your window," Dani reminded him.
"Right, but I've upgraded my security. If you want I can even hire bodyguards when I'm not there."
"Jax-"
"Dani, I don't want you here by yourself."
"I don't know. Maybe you're right. I even asked my neighbor but he didn't see anything."
"You got a new neighbor? What's he like?" Jax asked, jealously rearing its ugly head.
"You mean Cr-Crreepy Mc-McCreeperson?"
"Why are you stuttering?"
"My neighbor. He's a stutterer. I found him out in the hall when I saw that note. I asked if he had seen anything but he said he didn't."
"Do you think he left the note?" Jax asked.
"I don't know but he's strange. He's very shy but I feel like he's watching me when I enter my apartment. He also reminds me of Billy for some reason. He wears glasses," Dani explained. "He seems harmless enough."
Jax walked towards her bedroom and shouted to her in the living room, "Do you have an overnight bag?"
"What are you doing?"
"Helping you pack. You can't stay here alone."
"Jax you're being ridiculous."
"Tell that to Roberto. I'm not losing you, Dani. Not to something I don't know. Not to something I can't fight yet."
"Fine, I'll go with you. Let me pack some things."

"Chencho, I thought I told you what I wanted you to do," CJ had his fingers steepled together as he stared at the other gang member. Chencho was tall, dark-haired, with almond colored eyes. He was muscular and a lot smarter than his counterparts.
"Not until you tell me why," Chencho muttered. "You want me to kill some broad, you need to tell me why."
"I need to tell you why?" CJ smirked. "I thought I was the leader here."
"Just 'cause you're the leader doesn't mean we do what you say no questions."
"Is that so?" CJ stood up from the metal chair he was sitting on and walked around Chencho who had his arms crossed at his chest.
CJ looked at the other members that were circled around them in the warehouse.
"Is that what you all think too? That this is a democracy?"
He heard a few mumbled answers and grinned. CJ pulled out a knife from his back pocket, switching it from one hand to the other.
"I asked you a question!" CJ shouted to the group.
"We follow our leader when he gives us a good reason to do something," Chencho repeated.
"Do you think I'd lead you astray?" CJ asked innocently. "That I'd stop you from stealing and dealing drugs? All I'm asking is that you do one simple thing for me."
"Murdering some random woman will get the cops on us," another man form the group shouted.
"And you're afraid all of a sudden?" CJ asked, laughing. "Do I need to clean my ears out? Los Lobos Locos are afraid of murdering someone? Did I take over a gang of men or a group of girl scouts?"
Again, he heard a murmuring among the group.
"Damn, I hate having to teach people the simplest things. You!" CJ pointed towards a single member named Luis and crooked his finger towards him.
"Me?" Luis pointed to himself, looking around at his fellow wolves.
"Don't make me call you twice," CJ said softly.
Luis quickly stepped forward.
"Okay, this is how you murder someone," CJ positioned Luis in front of Chencho. "Watch carefully."
"What do you want me to do?" Luis asked.
"I want you to murder Chencho." CJ shook his head in disgust. "I'm dealing with amateurs here."
"But Chencho's second in command," Luis looked at Chencho who remained expressionless.
"So? I gave you an order."
Again Luis turned to Chencho, waiting for instructions.
"Could it be that you think I'm joking?" CJ asked loud enough for everyone to hear. "Or maybe you really don't know how to kill someone. Let me show you."
CJ pulled out a small gun from the back of his pants, "First you hold your piece in one hand. Make sure your grip is tight. You never want to drop your weapon. Then get close to your target. Keep your mind blank. Don't think about anything except your bulle breaking skin...going in deep. If you start to let your mind wander, it takes longer to get the job done. Second thoughts will get you killed."
"Chencho is second in command," Luis repeated. "I'll kill the lady but not him."
"Not him? You in love with him or something? Does he get you off when no one's looking? Why do you care so much about him?" CJ snarled. "You think this is a game?"
"No, but-"
"Enough! Do you think friendship means something? That family means something? It doesn't. In this world you have to look out for yourself. Protect yourself. If I ask you to kill someone, then you should do it!"
CJ was facing the crowd. He held up his gun and pointed it at the gang member that was hesitating to kill Chencho. The blast of the gun going off filled the empty warehouse but no one moved except Luis who was now on the ground, lifeless.
CJ was still looking at the crowd, "Any questions? Or do I need to show you again?"
"I'll do it," Chencho said quietly.
CJ walked up to him and wiped off some of Luis' blood that had splattered on his cheek, "That's right. You're just like a woman, Chencho. You put up a big show but in the end...you do exactly what I want. Next time think about Luis when you want to say no."
He handed an envelope to Chencho who slowly pulled out the photograph of his target with a name written across it.
Dolores Greene
