FAIRYTALES OF GIRLS are always sweet. They don't tell you stories of dangerous girls. Femme fatale was a real thing, Veda was the definition of it. They only tell you stories of the girls kind as can be. The ones that sing to the birds and never sin. Which was never realistic. To storytellers—stories of dangerous girls were a terrifying thing. Because girls are supposed to be nice and fragile. But, when you give a girl confidence and power—she'll never be fragile again. She'd be just as strong as a man.
Veda was a dream girl and tonight she will start to live in Stiles' dream world. The young boy had been tossing and turning all night which was odd to him. He was usually able to sleep as long as he had his pillow. The frustration overwhelmed him and a small groan slipped from his lips.
After a while, he had finally found a comfortable position and he slowly fell asleep. Now—he was still, for the first time in the past two hours. His eyes switched from side to side while they were still closed as he heard whispers—coming into his dream state.
"Stiles . . ."
It was a girl's voice. It was alluring in a way and it echoed. His eyes shot open and the room he was in was dimly lit. The pool took up most of the room and the reflection of the water bounced on the walls. The room was dead silent, except for the sound of feet patting against the floor.
His head turned and a girl came into his view. Her long dark was slicked back—her sickly white-looking skin was drenched in pool water, and there was blood everywhere. Blood on her lips—neck, and white dress. Stiles involuntarily backed up as she walked over to him which caused a laugh to erupt from her lips. "Why are you trying to run away?"
Stiles gulped as he felt his stomach turn. Now—it felt like he was frozen in place. Her aura was dark and he felt the pain she could inflict on him and it didn't feel good. Just looking at her gave him goosebumps. Everything about her was just cold. Veda walked closer and closer to him, causing his breathing to pick up. She leaned into his ear—her breath fanning against his neck, and her chest pressed up against his before she dragged her sharpened nails against his cheek. "Are you scared of me?" She whispered bitterly.
Her voice caused chills to travel down his spine. He felt like his whole body was numb. He was paralyzed. "A-Are you gonna hurt me?" Stiles soon managed to get his words out after a long pause.
There was that laugh again. A sick giggle. "No, honey. Not unless you give me a reason to." Veda's hand left his cheek before she took a step away from him. "Are you gonna give me a reason to?" She stared right into his eyes as her blue ones turned white. Stiles honestly thought he pissed himself when he saw that. He felt like he couldn't even make a sudden move without the risk of being murdered. He slowly shook his head in response before she blinked at her eyes were back at their normal state.
"Come with me." Veda held out her right hand. Stiles stared down at it—hesitating. "I said I wasn't gonna hurt you, didn't I?" Stiles lifted up his hand that lightly shook before it was placed into hers. Veda immediately gripped his hand and turned around—dragging him to a door across the room. She walked rather slowly and Stiles was convinced that she was leading him to his doom. Which is ironic for a creature like her. But he wasn't in danger. Yet.
Something in the way. Mmm-mmm. Stiles heard a sweet voice. It was as Veda. She sang her favorite song and repeated the same verse. Stiles stared at the back of her head as he continued to listen. Her voice felt like a drug like he was under a spell.
He was taken out of his trance once she let go of his hand. The door to the locker room opened and he looked out into the dark room. "Quand est-ce qu'une porte n'est pas une porte." Veda whispered. When is a door not a door is what it meant. Stiles' head snapped back and she completely disappeared.
He took a deep breath before he felt for a light switch on the wall. Once his finger touched it and everything was clear, there it was. The tree stump in the middle of the room. The same one he saw when he was dead a few hours ago.
Then he woke up. Drenched in sweat—with his chest heaving up and down.
AFTER LAST NIGHT Stiles couldn't stop thinking about his nightmare. What freaked him out the most was seeing the tree again. He convinced himself it was nothing because he didn't want to believe what Deaton said would come true. But what he didn't understand was the girl. Why was she there? It was like she was luring him in.
He remembered a lot about her. Especially the song she hummed. Something in the way. Mmm-mmm. He couldn't get it out of his head. Not the song specifically but her voice. It was beautiful yet somewhat hypnotizing.
Stiles was currently sitting in his English class staring down at the work he was assigned. His pencil stopped moving when he heard it again. Veda's voice singing the same song. Stiles' head shot up and at first, he thought it was just him hearing it in his head again. But then he looked over at the door and saw a familiar figure walk by. Stiles took a second to think before he raised his hand.
His teacher felt eyes lingering on her and looked up at the boy. "Yes, Stiles?" She raised an eyebrow.
"Can I go to the bathroom?" Stiles asked, lowering his hand.
She looked over at the clock before a sigh left her lips which were covered in red lipgloss. Class was going to be over in fifteen minutes. "Be quick and take a pass." She looked back over at him.
"Thank you." He got up from his seat and snatched a hall pass from the desk by the door. He looked to his left—down the hallway. He remembered how the back of her head looked and he saw her walk in front of an empty classroom.
He picked up the speed and walked as fast as he could. Veda already knew he was behind her and before he was able to get a word out she spoke up. "Hi, Stiles." She greeted with her back still turned to him.
"H-How do you know my name?" His voice was shaky. Veda finally faced him. She didn't look as scary anymore. No sharp nails, no white eyes—no blood. Instead of the bloody white dress, she wore a pink cropped hoodie and matching mini skirt. "If you're gonna kill me can we just get it over with?"
She smirked. "I'm not gonna kill you." She dragged her thumb against his cheekbone.
He was just staring into her eyes like how she was staring into his. He didn't know what to do. "Who are you?"
Veda took a step back and looked into the classroom. Vines covered the walls and there the tree was again. "That doesn't matter." Stiles followed her gaze and complete horror took over him. His eyes shifted back over to Veda who was smiling at him. Blood all over her mouth.
"Stiles!"
Stiles' body jolted up and he was in his dad's car. He didn't even remember being in there. He slowly turned to his father he was staring at him. He was stopped at a red light and realized that Stiles was asleep. But he kept whispering no over and over again. "W-What happened?"
"You fell asleep," Noah explained. "Are you okay?"
The car started to move again and he slowly blinked. "Y-Yeah dad I'm fine." Stiles nodded. "I'm fine." He whispered through his breaths.
Eight months ago...
IT WAS FRIDAY NIGHT and Veda had the urge to swim. It was kind of therapeutic for her and she was incredibly in love with water. People always asked her why and she just felt like the water could be kinder than people. Water can't judge you—water isn't afraid to touch you. She could be anyone she wanted. She just felt free.
Veda kicked the grey shorts off her feet and now, she was just left in the simple black bikini. A bright smile grew on her face as she looked down into the body of water in front of her. As soon as her feet touched the water she felt nothing but pure joy. Her eyes were shut as she slowly walked deeper into the lake—enjoying the feeling of the water on her skin.
Her legs lightly swayed around as she floated above the surface. Before she could even do anything her skin began to tingle. That's never happened before. She told herself it was nothing and began swimming. Her body jolted and forced itself into a complete halt causing her eyes to widen. "The fuck is—" Her sentence was cut off by a painful sensation. Her legs were forced together like magnets and she felt like a weight was being added to her.
She looked down at her waist and she no longer saw her black bottoms that stopped only a couple of inches under her belly button. Her breathing picked up as panic took over.
Major detail: tonight was a full moon. And we all know what crazy shit happens on those nights. We also know that supernatural beings grow the excruciating urge to kill. So, let's keep that in mind.
Veda lifted up her arm and examined her transformed hand. Her nails looked like they could poke an eye out—they were weapons. There were blue skin-like webs between each of her fingers and faint white and blue scales that shined going down her arms.
It was safe to say that she felt like she was going to pass out. Or die. She definitely thought she was dying in the weirdest way possible. She didn't know what it could be. Some weird allergic reaction or a batshit crazy disease. Her hand traveled down to feel what was wrong with her legs and what she felt freaked her out even more. Scales.
Now, she had an idea. But—she didn't want to believe it. She wanted it to be an illusion. But then her eyes turned white, pupils shrink—and her teeth sharpen. She had a newfound craving for blood.
