it's sad but it's not a bad thing
3rd person pov
later that night they went home and dorothea laid in her bed. thinking about lucy gray and wovery. she wanted to protect both of them but that would be impossible if she wasn't there to help. she thought about arachne and how things would be different now because she was dead and so was her tribute but that's just how the world works. when she laid there in her bed, nothing made sense to her and she had to deal with that for the rest of her life.
her and coriolanus worked on the rules and what they were going to do, they wrote up what they had to with clemensia. the three of them working together meant something. she thought about how tigris was most likely defending lucy gray against their grandma'am because she had a thing against the rebels and tigris knew about lucy gray and dorothea. she went to bed that night and then the next morning, when she woke up, she went with coriolanus to the school together and handed the security guard the envelope of things they wrote together and then they walked to class
"in spite of yesterday's tragic events, our president has decided that the games must go on to show everyone the capitol is unafraid of such acts of terror. To which end, Dr. Gaul wishes you to preview the arena this afternoon with your tributes. Later this afternoon, there will be a special televised presentation of each tribute to our audience to, you know, get to know them. You will have an hour to discuss strategy." he told them as they were led to a room with their tributes and dorothea made eye contact with lucy gray on the way in and she nodded her head in acknowledgment to her girlfriend. then she headed over to wovey who sat there and stared at her softly
"you may begin" dr.highbottom said and they all sat down in front of their tributes. wovey reached her hand out and grabbed dorotheas making the girl sigh and smile at her
"I'm a really good climber. I used to climb in my mom's factory all the time. You saw that" wovey said and dorothea nodded
"I did see that wovey. I think we can use that to our advantage. I'm here to talk about strategy with you to make sure that you survive. There are many ways you can do this, but there are only a few ways that you won't get traumatized while surviving. one of them is hiding until the end of the when there is only one person left and you kill them. The other is climbing places anywhere you can go to make sure that you are out of reach from anyone and anything that could hurt you. I've never had to deal with the games, but I did have to deal with the war once, and the only way I survived was by hiding and not fighting. To be honest, these people are older and bigger and stronger than you. they want to win the games because they don't wanna be here. If you think that climbing is the best thing that you can do to survive, I say take your chances." dorothea told wovey and wovey nodded
"I have a chance" she asked her and dorothea sighed
"I want to believe that you do and I think that you can but for this to work we have to work together and we have to make sure that nothing happens" dorothea explained
"I heard about that girl. I'm really sorry about her." wovey exclaimed
"she deserved it to be quite honest. she was mean to her tribute and she was mean to anyone who wasn't from the capital. it's sad but it's not a bad thing" dorothea stated and wovey nodded sadly as they both looked over at coriolanus and lucy gray. wovey noticed the way she looked at lucy and she smiled
"you know, I think everyone knew about you too. Do you think she's gonna survive this?" wovey asked
"only one person can survive this" dorothea spoke and wovey looked down as she came to the conclusion that dorothea came too.
"is there anyway for you to help me?" wovey asked and dorothea nodded
"'tonight is the night before the games and we can win people over so they can send you gifts in the arena because they give you money. You already got some because of when I went and visited you when you were in the cage. But I think tonight we could show a little bit more of that and show our relationship and show that you are a kid who wants to get out." dorothea told her and wovey nodded before they heard the alarm and dorothea looked at wovey
"i will be back later. stay safe" dorothea exclaimed and she kissed woveys head before she got up and left with the others. this is when she heard that her, coriolanus and clemensia had to go to dr.gauls office and present her their ideas
"mr.snow, ms.dovecote and ms.castiel. come and see my new babies" she told them and they walked over to then cage of snakes and looked at them
"is there a point to the color?" clemensia asked
"there's a point to everything,ms.dovecote. Or to nothing at all, which brings me neatly to your proposal, which one of you actually wrote it?" she asked
"I was inspired by coriolanus and dorothea yesterday, of course. their little betting idea but the sponsorships and the gifts in the arena those were all mine" she said and dorothea scoffed which dr.gaul looked at her and nodded
"so its your sweaty handwriting on that page. Very impressive Miss Dovercote. Unfortunately, my assistant miss took it for trash this morning in line the shelves of this very terrarium with it. So please, ms.dovecote, retrieve it for us, won't you? So we might all consider your inspired ideas? My little predators are perfectly docile with who they trust so if they're used to your scent, if you've handled their food, for example, or if they inhaled the sweater, your palm on a page, they'll leave you alone. a new you'd be on your own little girl retrieve it" dr.gaul told her and they watched clemensia stick her hand and get attacked as she fell to the ground
"you asked about colors, ms.dovecote. I want my enemies to see a rainbow of destruction engulfing the world. I'm not above using spectacle to create a little terror, a strategy your classmates here are articulated very well and their proposal. They're good, your suggestions. I'm going to recommend my team implement as many as possible tomorrow. what?" she asked
"will she die?" he asked
"does it matter?" dorothea retorted and dr.gaul laughed
"the pleasure in breaking ground in ones research is one gets to find out. you better keep Miss Dovecotes fate between us. I don't think her mother would be happy to learn how she caught this sudden flu. I run along, you have to promote, and it's time for my milk and crackers" she told them and this is when they decided to head to the arena not knowing what they were going to find there
