Chapter Nineteen 

what was her own good anymore

3rd person pov 

the next day, dorothea was back at work with coriolanus and sejanus. she stood far away from them as she couldn't hear their conversation but she knew that there was a problem as she could see them speaking to each other. 

she handed the birds to the other workers as they kept transporting the birds and moving them into their cages. soon enough, she was able to move closer to them and she heard them talking about the group of people that were leaving the district and leaving. she listened to them and she watched closely as coriolanus looked like he was trying to help but she knew it was more then that. 

it had to be more then that as she watched sejanus walk away and coriolanus stopped something. dorothea had no idea what he had recorded but she knew that iof it was anything, it would get sejanus in trouble and she hated that but she reminded herself ot where she would be later that night. 

she sat at a table with coriolanus and sejanus as she watched lucy gray closely with a smile and she stared at her. coriolanus noticed her stare and he smiled at the sight of her smile. dorothea swayed to the song that lucy gray wrote about her and she listened to the rest of it. 

she always wanted someone to write a song about her and if it was lucy gray singing about her after writing a song about her, then she watched lucy gray nod her head to coriolanus and dorothea turned her head to see him walking away and she nodded. she waited for the song to be over and then they followed after coriolanus into the back room where they saw billy, the mayors daughter, sejanus, coriolanus and another man. 

"whats happening here?" dorothea made her presence clear and coriolanus turned to her as did sejanus and they both looked at her and then lucy gray who held her hand and stared at them

"you invite the whole town, plinth?" the man who dorothea learned was named spruce asked 

"shes okay spruce, shes joining us too. shes with me" billy said and dorothea scoffed as did mayfair 

"like hell she is" dorothea spoke 

"she what?" mayfair asked 

"quiet down, mayfair. ill explain later" he told her and dorothea looked at lucy gray who shook her head and dorothea nodded. she knew that he was lying 

"i think I'm done listening to your explanations. she's not going anywhere and neither are you. my pa's gonna string y'all up for this" mayfair threatened and spruce raised the gun at her but was quickly stopped by billy 

"she'll tell everyone, you idiot. she'll get us all hung" spruce exclaimed 

"no, she wont, spruce. she's all talk and no action" billy spoke and mayfair turned to lucy gray who stood behind dorothea 

"what do you think, lucy gray? am i all talk, no action? hey, how'd you enjoy the capitol, by the way? see y'all at the hanging tree" she said and she started to walk away but coriolanus grabbed the gun from spruce and he shot at mayfair hitting her in the back 

"coriolanus, what did you just do?" lucy gray cried 

"well, you just shot the mayors daughter, son. if you weren't a rebel before, you are now. quiet, billy taupe" spruce said and dorothea turned to lucy gray as she grabbed her and held her closely 

"lucy gray, we have to go. they won't think this is us" dorothea told lucy gray and then they heard billy taupe threaten and run at coriolanus but spruce shot him and lucy gray went to move towards his body 

"you're gonna go back out on that stage and youre gonna sing. youre gonna sing like nothing is wrong and I'm gonna find us a way out of this, okay? i swear, i swear. dorotea, go with her. stay with her and be safe" coriolanus told her and dorothea nodded her head as she ran out of the room with lucy gray. 

they stopped shortly out of the room and dorothea held her and kissed her forehead as hard as she could before lucy gray went out on the stage and she sang for the rest of the night as they tried to forget what happened but nothing could change what happened. 

so the next day when they got back to the district and to their locations, dorothea stood at the locker that was closely situated between coriolanus and sejanus. she laid in her bed and fell asleep then the colonel came in banging on a bucket 

"come on, everybody, up! everybody up! lets go?" he said 

"smiley, whats going on?"  coriolanus asked him 

"hoff is losing his mind. the mayors daughter got shot and her boyfriend too. he's sending out every grunt we've got to find the guns that did it" he told coriolanus and he looked at dorothea as they got dressed and for the rest of the day. the group of peacekeepers went looking for the guns

as dorothea was walking, she heard a whistle and she went down the hallway as she found lucy gray and she stood a distance away from her but she stared at her. 

"we're leaving right? we're running away together? we have to, this is the only way" lucy gray said and dorothea nodded her head as they figured out the plan and what they were going to do. 

soon enough, they went to the hanging tree and they stood there waiting for the hangings to begin. that was when dorothea looked up and saw sejanus being led to them and he stared at dorothea as she stared back. 

"the Capital has received word via jabberjay that these two men conspire to breaking into our bases, jail and flea north to release this terrorist from captivity. Expect this from a rebel, but not from one of our own this is treason, plain and simple play the recording." he said and the recording that coriolanus did began to play and dorothea turned to him when she realized.

as they heard the recording, the floor dropped out from under them and she stared at sejanus. she had lost the own person beside lucy gray who had the same goal as her and she wished that there was more that she could do but there was nothing. 

she had lost sejanus who was everything and more to her. he knew her more then coriolanus did and now he was dead and now she had to flee for her own good. but what was her own good anymore? 

she didn't know but she would soon find out.
