Chapter Sixteen

anything for you 

3rd person pov 

"welcome to twelve. We're proud to have every one of you serving your country out here. For the next 20 years, brothers and sisters, and your immediate squad will become your family. You will train together, sleep together, eat together, you will rise together, and you will fall together. You will be our eyes and ears out here on my base as well as off of it. And it will be your duty to report anything suspicious you see, because if you do not, you are as good as a rebel" he told them and they were sent off in their uniforms. dorothea hated this because she was a rebel, she had helped the families and that's why she was here but clearly her parents hadn't told them that. 

"Last month, a peacekeeper and two bosses were shot dead in the pits. We retrieve the murder weapon. We swabbed it for DNA. And the results prove beyond doubt that this man, arlo chance is guilty. So watch, all of you. This is what happens when you challenge the capitals rule of law." he told them and they heard a call out 

"he's innocent. no,no,no! he's innocent" she cried and the next thing people knew he was hung. sejanus went to walk to her but coriolanus stopped her. soon after they got off their shifts and dorothea went to walk around, she missed twelve or at least what was left of it. she found sejanus standing outside of the room with lily in it as she yelled for arlo but there was nothing they could do. coriolanus walked over just as dorothea did and they stood next to him 

"what were you thinking back there?" coriolanus asked sejanus and dorothea looked at him in worry 

"she didn't do anything, coryo. What is she guilty of?" sejanus asked 

"being directly associated with rebels. What more do they need?" coriolanus told him and dorothea scoffed. he knew about her and lucy gray so what he was saying made no sense to her in the slightest 

"if she had gotten through the crowd, I don't think I would've been able to shoot her. Would you?" he asked and dorothea shook her head 

"you need to find a way to make peace with our life here now or have your father buy you a discharge, and do some thing else" coriolanus told him but that just wasn't good enough then they heard the voice of another peacekeeper 

"hoffs given us all leave passes for the weekend. boost morale" he told them and they walked away from the room together as they walked to the underground bar together. it was strange that she was the only girl but she was dealing with it just fine or at least she thought she was. 

"I'm gonna go get a drink" sejanus told them and they both nodded as he walked off and they watched him. then they looked at the front stage 

"is it hot in here?" she heard and she turned to see one of the girls from the covey, and where the covey was, lucy gray was always close behind and she could only hope that's who she was about to see 

"causes we're plannin' on heating it up a set more. the one, the only, lucy gray baird!" she heard and lucy gray walked onto the stage with a spin and a smile. dorothea felt her breathe leave her chest and she looked at coriolanus 

"well, hey there, district 12, did you miss me? I bet you never expected ti lay eyes on me again. And let me tell you that goes both ways but I am back. i sure am back! oh! is that bottle there for me? oh, come on, y'all. you know, i gave up drinking when i was 12. its to clear my pipes, y'all. to clear my pipes, now, how about a song, yeah?" she asked and she started to sing as they all listened. dorothea smiled at the sight of her girlfriend singing and she saw coriolanus look over at sejanus. then lucy gray looked over at her and she smiled at dorothea who smiled back. 

"lucy gray! lucy gray. youre sounding kind of thin, lucy gray. youre all sounding thing without me. no?" he asked and billy walked up to the stage but it all turned to shit when a fight started. she watched billy grab the bottom of lucy grays dress and all she could see was red.  she looked at coryo who nodded and she nodded back as she walked over to billy and she grabbed the back of his shirt 

"she said to let her go!" dorothea told him and she punched once, then twice and then a third time until he was laid out flat with blood on his face and then she looked up at her girlfriend with a smile and a shake of her head 

"hi luc" she said and lucy gray smiled back at the girl before she looked at billy and then at her 

"really laid him out" lucy gray stated and dorothea shrugged 

"anything for you, you know that" dorothea told her and lucy gray blushed before she felt someone grabbing the back of her arm and she smiled at lucy gray one last time before she was led away by coriolanus and sejanus 

"you know you didn't have to knock that guy out" sejanus told her and she shrugged 

"you don't get it" dorothea stated 

"what don't I get you don't even know her" sejanus said and she scoffed 

"don't you remember me saying that she's my girlfriend? I do know her Janice, and that was her ex-boyfriend who cheated on her, him grabbing her was not OK, so yes I did have to beat him up but thank you for asking. I'm OK." she said 

"that was insane" coriolanus said 

"shes here, shes alive" dorothea said and coriolanus nodded. she was back with her girlfriend and everything would be okay.
