Now let me explain why it looks like that.

So, after the war with gaia, Percy and Annabeth continued with their lives. A few years later, the two get married and have a child named Claire. (Or Zoe because someone wanted it to be Zoe)

Four years later, the trio decided to go camping. However, they were met with a terrible fate. A hydra awaited them in the forest.

Due to their daughter, (and it's been quite a while since they last fought)the duo found the fight slightly arduous.

Bravely, Percy charges in and manages to kill the Hydra but, at a price.

His body was soaked with acid causing extreme disfiguration, mutilation, and severe burns.

Annabeth was also unfortunate. As she moved to cover her daughter's gaze from seeing her father's corpse, a fine mist of acid was sprayed unto her eyes. Causing permanent blindness.

The photo was taken after Percy's funeral.

Here, we can see Percy's ghost joining in with the photo. Although, Annabeth and Claire can't see him.

Another thing we can notice is Annabeth's tears and her smile. Showing us how she tries to stay strong for the sake of her daughter.

Aside from that, if you look at the bottom. You'll notice Claire wearing a necklace with a ring on it. That ring belongs to her father. (See what I did there? ^.^)

Quite dark huh? xD

Actually before that I was planning something like this:

Annabeth goes blind
Percy loses intersst in her.
He goes out drinking, whoring, gambling.
The image isn't real, it's only a imagined image inside Claire's head.

I didnt go with that one xD why? My client would kill me! xD
