十二: Shopping With Hong Kong

I decided that Hong Kong needed a little love :)

Enjoy the pic of the Asian family!

The lines that are italiced are supposed to be spoken in Cantonese but I just made it English. There isn't any pronounciations for Cantonese unlike Mandarin/Putonghua, so...yeah.

"On your phone again?"

Samantha looked up, noticing that Hong Kong was standing in the doorway. He wasn't wearing his usual duangua, instead he was wearing casual clothing: a t-shirt and jeans. On top of his white t-shirt, he wore a black sweater, and a brown belt was fastened messily around his hips. An amused smile fell over his lips.

"Well, why are you here?" she asked him, assuming that there was something on his mind that made him want to visit her.

"Teacher was busy today so he asked me to babysit you," Loung replied casually.

"Babysit me?" Samantha laughed. "He does realize that I'm not a little kid anymore, right?"

"Well, compared to him, you technically are. He's 4000 years old and can live forever." Hong Kong smirked. "I'll take you out, since it'll be too boring to stay at home. Where do you want to go?"

"Anywhere: I don't mind. But just as long as it's in Hong Kong. I have school tomorrow," the girl said.

"Well, that'll be easy. I know everything about Hong Kong. Heck, I am Hong Kong." He smiled, amused. "Get changed and we'll go, okay?" he said, heading out to the living room.

Samantha nodded, closing her door and quickly throwing on a t-shirt and shorts, along with her usual hoodie. She then brushed her hair and ran out of her room, meeting him outside. She slipped on her shoes, put on her bag, and turned to him. Loung led her outside, locking the doors behind them.

"Let's go to the mall, does that sound good?" he asked.

"Yeah!" the girl replied enthusiastically.

"Let's go, then." He brought her to one of the malls in Hong Kong, and it was one of Samantha's favorite malls. It wasn't far from her apartment, and she was pretty familiar with it too.

As they entered the mall, they noticed that it was quite crowded. Loung reached over and grabbed the short girl's hand. Samantha looked back at him, confused.

"You should hold my hand so that you won't get lost," he teased, "And since you're so young and little...we wouldn't want anything to happen to you, now would we?"

"I'm not little!"

"You are, compared to me," he replied, ruffling her hair. "You've forgotten that I'm immortal, too."

Samantha scoffed. "Let's just find some restaurant to eat lunch in."

"Okay," Hong Kong said, his face turning serious once more. "Where would you like to eat?"

"You pick," she replied.

He shrugged, leading her over to an escalator and stepping onto it. They went up, and up, and up, and finally stopped at a floor. He intertwined his fingers with hers as they walked over to a restaurant.

Samantha flipped through the menu that was displayed at the entrance. The prices weren't too expensive, nor were they too cheap. The waiter led them to a two-person table.

They quickly decided what they were going to eat. Hong Kong waved his hand in the air, and a waitress walked towards him. They placed their orders as she wrote them down on a notepad. She then stuffed it into her apron pocket.

"Your boyfriend?" she questioned, winking at her. Samantha blushed, then shook her head. Loung laughed.

"Oh, I'm not her boyfriend. I'm just a friend that, well, has a big brother figure to her," he replied.

"He acts a little too much like a big brother..." Samantha muttered under her breath.

"Oh. I see. Enjoy the food then!" the waitress said, smiling warmly at the two before walking away.

When she was out of earshot, Samantha snickered. "I wonder what made her think we were dating..."

"Mm. I would date you if I had the chance," Hong Kong muttered to himself, his voice barely audible.

"What was that?" the girl said, confused.

Their food was delivered to their table, and they dug in.

"Nothing." He paused, then changed the subject. "Anyway...what do you want to do after lunch?"

"Either watch a movie or ice skate," Samantha replied casually. "Or shop for a while after that."

"A movie sounds good. I want to save the ice skating for...later."

"Movie it is, then."

They finished their food quickly, and when Samantha reached for her wallet to pay for it, Hong Kong stopped her from doing so by holding her wrist in place.

"I'll pay," he said simply.

"But--"

"I said I'll take you out, so that means I'm treating you," he argued.

"Fine...but I'm paying for the movie!" she exclaimed as they walked out.

"Not gonna happen, shorty." She heard him say.

"I am not short!"

"You are, compared to me," Loung replied. As if to prove his point, he dragged her over to a mirror. He had her stand in front of him, then he tilted his head up to rest his chin on her head. "See?"

Samantha pouted, not liking the fact that she was considered short.

"Don't be so sad, Sammi," Hong Kong said, taking her hand and leading her to a nearby ice cream shop. Before she could register what was happening, he handed her an ice cream on a waffle cone, patting her head as if she were a little kid.

"Wha--what?! Haagen Daz?!" she exclaimed. "That stuff is expensive! You can't just go around spending money on me! You could have gotten an ice cream the same size as that from 7-11 for just 8 dollars!"

Loung gave her a straight face. "I had a coupon..."

"Oh." Was her response, and she felt completely stupid.

"If you don't want it, I could eat it for you," he said, reaching over and giving it a good lick.

"Nah, I'm good. Thanks for the ice cream, though!" Samantha said, pulling it back towards her and starting to eat it. "To be honest, maybe we should save that movie for next time."

"And do some shopping?" Hong Kong asked hopefully. She nodded. A small smile brightened up his face, and Samantha could tell that he was incredibly excited.

"Well, what are we waiting for?" he asked, "Let's go!" he exclaimed, taking off towards the nearest clothes store.

"Hey, wait for me!" the girl called, bolting right after him.
